Gosh darn it. It was fun having the new hotness while it lasted. Now I see why people constantly buy the new model of their car every 2 years and throw away money.

I could have sworn my car made like 270lb ft of torque. Guess I've been wrong this whole time. It really fucking scoots to only be 220/258.

That's how I feel when I see mk7s and mk7.5s. They all have bigger brakes, mech lsd, more power, nicer interiors, etc.

However it is really nice knowing that I haven't had a car payment since 2014 and that I know my car's entire history.

Not sure when I'll replace the mk6, but everytime I drive it and sit/drive other used vehicles I can't justify the additional price. I'm keeping my nose in the car industry to see what kinds of things are down the line to peak my interest. Rumors of the Golf R possibly getting the rs3's I-5 (dubbed the r420) has my attention. Something tells me that if this car is ever made the US will never see it... I'd be willing to take out a small loan for that one if the price is feasible. Other than that a new Gti and Golf R still have my attention, so I'm glad to hear about it not being a hybrid after hearing a couple months ago that it could be equipped with a big battery.

Sounds so badass but since I know you're a Manuel man, I'll guarantee you if we ever got it, it'd be a DSG only.

That car would be so expensive. The golf R is already like 40k right? I don't know if I'm still looking at a Golf for 45k.

i'd opt for the DSG anyway if i got a Golf R (4-cyl or 5-cyl), both so the wife could drive it and because the DSG will handle a tune much better.

planning on keeping the z3 as the fun manual car. it feels so good to drive; so raw when compared to the GTI.

I actually think if VAG stuck the I-5 in the Golf R it would be closer to the $50k range considering the new RS3 is $56k. A new Golf R optioned out is already near $45k. While i think that's ridiculous i feel all cars everywhere are so much more money than they used to be only 10 years ago, or it seems that way to me.

$45k-$50k is a lot of money, but with Golf utility (hatch/wagon), AWD, and 400hp+ with factory warranty? What else would it compete with? (likely a pointless conversation since 1. VAG may never build it and 2. If they did it likely wouldn't come to the states)

See? This guy has life figured out.

You peasants and your one car life.

I think of it this way: would I rather pay $77k (base price) for a Porsche Macan Turbo to get that 400 hp AWD hatchback, or $45-50k for said Golf R420? Especially considering that the Macan really doesn't have much more usable space on the inside. It might even have less. Looking at the other 'hot' compact SUVs like the X3 M40i and SQ5 and you're gonna pay at least $50k for them.

I think if you have kids and need something practical, can only have one vehicle, and want something truly fast, a R420 might not be a bad deal. I just don't know how many people would share my thought process.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - Apoc - 02-05-2019

^ At that point, I'm saying FUCK IT and buying an RS3. You couldn't fit a large box in but, the the space is comparable. Let's be honest, anything other than that you'd probably want to put in a Golf would fit in an RS3.

Automotive News Discussion - Senor_Taylor - 02-05-2019

You guys are making good points I suppose. Let's hope they do it and hope people agree and buy them.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 02-05-2019

The RS3 is tighter inside than you'd think. For example, if I'm sitting in the back seat, the rear glass has me hunched over. If only kids were gonna be back there I guess it doesn't matter though.

I must admit that I don't like the VW/Audi DSG. It felt just a bit unnatural when I test drove a S3, and it was a pain in the ass when I was driving the Scirocco at the Ring. It's shift logic is always trying to shift for you even in manual mode.

Automotive News Discussion - Sijray21 - 02-05-2019

The audi 3 sedan is really small. I haven't sat in one, but a friend of mine has an s3 and he thinks it's almost too small as he has sat in the back of my car and says mine is noticeably roomier. The golf is more comparable to the 4 and I think golf is even more roomier than the audi 4. I haven't directly compared the passenger volume stats, tbh, just going off feel since my father in law has a 2014 a4.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - Apoc - 02-05-2019

I guess I'm coming at it from the perspective of two adults and one child, which is what we'll be experiencing for awhile. An RS3 probably doesn't work if you plan on loading up family, but I'm not sure a Golf is *that* great at four adults anyway. You can do it, but I'm not taking four adults and luggage on a road trip any time soon.

What if we just said, "Okay, 350 hp is enough... I guess," and got an S4 instead? They're $50 grand too. Well, maybe not optioned. I just feel like I'd rather have a sedan because buying a proper $50k wagon isn't an option.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - .RJ - 02-05-2019

I want an audi TT-RS for that sweet turbo 5-pot

I didn't think it could get worse, but someone always does it. Congrats on making it uglier.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - RawrImAMonster - 02-06-2019

Nah the factory spec is still way uglier than that.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - WRXtranceformed - 02-06-2019

My brother's got a new APR tuned S3. The backseat is tiny but damn that thing is fast

RE: Automotive News Discussion - davej - 02-06-2019

The new S3/RS3 can't be that much different in size than the B5 chassis. We're all just older and fatter. Sometime when I get bored and look it up and confirm.

In other news, the Monkey is back!!
https://powersports.honda.com/2019/monkey.aspx

So many good memories of bombing around farm fields and Greek islands on those stupid things, although I remember them being smaller, maybe 50cc? $4k is crazy, but won't stop me from reminiscing.

Edit: I looked it up, and we are indeed older and fatter.
