So, android shit is blowing up. Release of ICS, release of HC and ICS source code, and now Amazon has released the source code for the Fire, and B&N has come out with an "updated" nook color with more speed and more RAM.

The next sixth months in the android biz might be pretty crazy.

Barnes & Noble needs to give up.

but its not even apple product?!!!?!!?!
Confusedhock:

how do you like the 7" form factor comared to 10" ipad?

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Mike - 11-20-2011

it's (a 7" size versus a 10" size) much less usable for surfing and "real computing" things, but it's almost so small that you can take it anywhere... almost. in fitting with one review i read, which i might agree with if i had more time with the device, the 7" doesn't do any one thing particularly well (they suggested everything about the device fits that description and that will be its downfall).

did you know i own a pc!? and a client recently wanted to go all mac, but i recommended against it!? yeah. this mind is pretty open.

Android people, "Documents To Go" is free today through the Amazon app store, if anyone is interested. Usually $14.99

^^ Good looks!

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Evan - 11-25-2011

anyone get in on any of the good tablet deals today?

I put android on one of my touchpads. Results: meh. The apps selection is great, but everything else is a whole lot of meh. Android email app is laughably bad. Calendar is terrible. Facebook app isnt great. Web browser is pretty good. So I boot into android just for games.

I guess I should hold out judgement until ice cream sandwhich (and dont get me started on stupid ass cutesy version names) but havent they had enough time to get this shit right?

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 11-25-2011

I saw a 32gb Transformer for 400, but that's it.

I prefer the gmail apparently to the native one on both my phone and tablet. I don't use it on my phone cause you can't adjust the size of the font for the inbox and it drives me BONKERS to have kindergarten sized text.

I think one of Android's weaknesses is they have a sort of 'ship first, polish later' attitude. So they've iterated on Android a lot but there are still some rough areas that could've used more polish. Apparently Honeycomb was a serious rush job so that they could get some competition to the iPad before the lead got insurmountable.

I'm looking forward to ICS but I'm also prepared to be let down =/

yeah. its really more beta though. its real solid. everything works, even 3d games, touchstone, etc.
occasionally the android market crashes but thats it.
the install is real easy too

--Oh, it would be so cool if we had a computer that was JUST THE SCREEN MAN! Confusedhock: Confusedhock:

--Done, here you go, but we had to trim it down the specs a bit so it can only run a phone OS.

--That's ok. I wasn't going to do any work anyway. OK, now here's my next big idea, let's put a keyboard and trackpad on it!

Cause I don't want the keyboard all the time and a 16 hour battery life? :dunno:

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Evan - 12-01-2011

i was going to  but im tired of being the tablet h8r :p

do you really go 16 hours of computer use without access to an electrical socket?

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 12-01-2011

Evan Wrote:do you really go 16 hours of computer use without access to an electrical socket?

I spent 2 hours in a hotel lobby, 4 hours in an airport and 6 hours on a plane on a single charge... but that's not typical. I like not having to fight for a socket in an airport or go a week at home without dealing with power cords.
