they're dumb people who can go get F'ed?

alot of Trump voters voted for him because they're literally desperate for someone to relate to their poverty and promise them jobs.

alot of Trump voters voted for him because he said some inflammatory stuff and portrayed some incredibly backwards views along with choosing a VP that's from the 50's.

you're going to notice a lot of the latter type on a day to day basis, and probably not much of the former. sorry about your coworkers, they sound like asshats.

Yep. This is what happens when you elect a demagogue.

http://fusion.net/story/368783/donald-trump-racist-incidents-attacks/

And on the other hand you have #notmypresident protestors trashing their own neighborhoods.

Only positive I see coming out of this whole clusterfuck, is once everyone sobers up and calms the fuck down, maybe people will pay a little bit more attention to what's going on in the white house during non-election years, just out of the natural anxiety that Con Man in Chief might nuke China or try to sell us to the Russians so he can finance Trump DeathStar/SpaceCasino.

I certainly feel more motivated to pay attention and call my congressman when necessary.

How do you think Donald got away with being a racist in the public sphere for 30 years up until last year?

Dave Chapelle definitely isn't looking for a safe space to cry in. Monologue from the king:

You say that as if somehow being racist means he'd have his businesses taken away from him or somehow he wouldn't be allowed to be famous if he was racist. I'd wager there are plenty of prominent business people that are somewhere on the racist spectrum, it's just that they're not public about it. At most, they use racist dog whistles for plausible deniability, the same way you see a lot of politicians doing.

The famous/rich people who did get raked over the coals for being racist, are the ones who actually get caught on video saying racist shit. Donald Sterling got sued for housing discrimination too, and was known in the NBA for his weird plantation-owner racist attitudes before. But he didn't get his shit ruined until those tapes came out. Paula Deen, Dog the Bounty Hunter, Hulk Hogan, Phil Robertson (Duck Dynasty), etc. didn't really catch heat until they got caught on tape.

Back to Trump, in the past he wasn't on the record saying the sort of outrageous things he said on the campaign trail. You had the Central Park 5 incident, the 2 housing discrimination law suits, and secondhand accounts of him saying racist stuff, but never him on video saying these things. Before one could have suspected him of being racist, but in his campaign he solidified those suspicions in the eyes of most.

No - I'm legitimately asking the question. He had a TV show on what is pretty well known to be a fairly liberal network. Been in the public sphere for a long long time - I just would have thought you'd at least have heard rumors. It doesn't take running for president to make people want to ruin your reputation. Now, I'm not up on celebrity comings and goings at all, but it does seem like something you'd have at least heard about. Maybe you don't until you do.

I also wonder where all these women were that came out accusing him of various things. I definitely don't know all the details, but you'd think that victims with allegations against Trump, a public billionaire, would have tried to settle something with him before it became an issue that would for sur ebe broadcast on national TV during a presidential contest.

He is a huge fan of the NDA.

If you're someone who has lived in NYC or has family who has lived in NYC you had a much higher chance of hearing about the other stuff. Before the Apprentice I was aware of a couple of questionable statements, and the Central Park 5 thing. I didn't hear about the housing discrimination lawsuits until he started campaigning.

The thing about powerful celebrities is that they have a number of ways they can keep negative stories from breaking out. They can pay people off like Bill Cosby did to some of the women he drugged and assaulted. Or they can make a deal with a media outlet to kill a story, again like Bill Cosby did (Nat'l Enquirer exchanged an interview for killing a story). They can simply deny, deny, deny, and usually people will believe a famous well-liked person over a nobody. They can also threaten legal action like Trump has done against a number of people for defamation. And because of all that, a lot of times people don't want to come forward with their story, especially victims of sexual assault. Look at how long it took for Jerry Sandusky to get caught.

Quote:I also wonder where all these women were that came out accusing him of various things. Sexual assault is always a tough one, even when you're talking about non-famous people. For someone rich and famous like Trump, it's all but a certainty that levying a public accusation would result in the victim having their name dragged through the mud and Trump trying to sue. Even if Trump didn't win, he has the resources to bludgeon a normal person into submission with litigation. Trying to prove someone groped you in court is very difficult unless someone else directly witnessed the act. So these women just kept quiet at the time.

I think the reason these women came forward now, is because he got caught on tape admitting he groped women, but then denied actually doing it during the 2nd debate.

HAULN-SS Wrote:I want clean drinking water too. Sticking with that though, I o think it's bullshit when a fracking project gets canned because they are drilling 3000 feet below the water table.

not to stir anything up, just that i noticed today the EPA released the latest study on fracking if you're interested.
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://cfpub.epa.gov/ncea/hfstudy/recordisplay.cfm?deid=332990">https://cfpub.epa.gov/ncea/hfstudy/reco ... eid=332990</a><!-- m -->

i read some of the executive summary while i pounded lunch. seems like some pretty obvious conclusions, re: waste handling, sealing abandoned wells and the integrity of the machinery. did not see anything conclusive on a definite vertical safe zone between the shallowest point of the well and the deepest part of the groundwater table, other than that its possible to have a well cause a hit to another underground feature up to 8000 feet away, but its rare i guess.

will be interesting to see if this information makes any difference at all consider the new head of the EPA basically wants to let Big Oil bend it over a barrel.

LOL guys can you believe we have President Trump?

Jesus Christ, it's still surreal.

Maybe I've been watching too much MitHC but I think ole Phil Dick would have had a field day with this shit.

Re: Electile Dysfunction (Current students plz look!) - SlimKlim - 01-23-2017

I'm so, so far from LOL'ing about it.

Yup. It's strange.

Has not disappointed so far in terms of expectations, sending out his press secretary to get into a pissing contest over attendance.

I'm watching today's WH press briefing right now and press sec. Spicer and the reporters are fighting again about crowd/viewership sizes. Wtf....where are the adults?

Ninja'd: his crowd size was actually substantial if anyone cares:

Re: Electile Dysfunction (Current students plz look!) - Apoc - 01-23-2017

Don't get distracted by bullshit like crowd sizes. I'm convinced it's a ploy to obfuscate things like this:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/193">https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-con ... e-bill/193</a><!-- m -->

I'm actually in favor of parts of the bill, so I'm not all HOLY SHIT STOP IT, but this should be getting more discussion than it is.

Re: Electile Dysfunction (Current students plz look!) - Senor_Taylor - 01-23-2017

Same thing with DeVos. No one cares about any other cabinet picks because they're too worried about her.

I did see that actually, but from what little research i've done apparently conservatives try to submit that every new congress. Does it have a slightly higher than normal shot of passage this time? Maybe, but i'm sure it will be shut down.

Than again, i also thought President Trump was never something i'd have to write, so who knows.
