Basically standing water in the trunk and the towels I placed in the cabin were completely saturated. I'm not even sure where to begin. I definitely think I need a new roof, preferably a hard top for now, and I'm assuming tail light seals, but it could also be the rain rail being cracked or misaligned, which would be solved by a new top. The taillight seals aren't your issue if the car as sitting when the trunk got soaked. If you think that's the problem, come pick through my stash of tail lights and swap a set from your car. Your rain rail is probably shot. There is a cheap and easy solution (until you want to put on a new top). Remove the top from the car and use black duct tape to "fix" the areas of the rain rail that has issues. It lasts longer than you can imagine. Your bring you car to Waynesboro Saturday and I'll help you do it. Also, when is the last time you completely cleaned out the drain channels for the top? I actually might take you up on the offer for Saturday. I'll need to see when the JMU game is.Senor_Taylor Wrote:The monsoon the other day absolutely filled my car. It's fairly easy to get to. Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - Senor_Taylor - 12-11-2016 Well, no need to "fix" the roof. Why, you ask? The answer is simple, James completely snapped my rear window in half last night. Well... that's not the full story. He broke it by accident because he was secretly putting my new hardtop on my car for my girlfriend who bought me one as a surprise Christmas gift. I'm pretty much floored that someone would do such a thing for me, let alone the fact that James and Scott K helped her find one and negotiate and then put it on while she distracted me. Thanks so much to both of you who helped her, and of course thanks to her. This is the best gift I've ever received. The top seems to be one off of an 89-91 Miata as it's an OEM one but has no defrost or headliner. It even came with side strikers! Scott let me use his garage and helped me install the strikers and he even looked over my car and gave me some advice on things to fix and what was okay. I'm really excited because now I don't have to worry about finding somewhere to park this if it rains hard or snows and I can actually use this car and even hopefully put things in the trunk without them being in a puddle of water! I plan to fix some of the chips on it and paint it Merlot Mica possibly in the summer. ![]()

Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - Senor_Taylor - 12-15-2016 The tail lights were leaking, mainly the driver side one, so I ordered new seals for $20. As I was removing the taillights I thought back to when I used silicone to seal my old Miata's lights instead of spending $20 and thought to myself "I'm lucky this car didn't have an owner like me!" ... Tug on the tail light but it seems to be frozen in place (it is below 10° wind chill!) Hit it with my hand and POP it comes out. This is the sight I see. ![]() No wonder that side was leaking so bad. I tried to scrape some off but it is way too cold and I started to scratch the paint so I put the new seal on and tightened it down. I'm sure it's going to leak but there's nothing I can do until January as I'm leaving the car at JMU. Does anyone have a good solution to removing the black stuff? Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - Senor_Taylor - 12-15-2016 I appreciate it Julie! Dave is letting me leave it at his house. Ken, I'll try that when it warms up. Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - D_Eclipse9916 - 12-15-2016 Toulene/acetone work great for that crap Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - JPolen01 - 12-15-2016 I bet carb cleaner would eat that right up. Worked for tinted tail lights. Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - davej - 01-03-2017 I was moving the car down to the street the other day, and noticed the fuel gauge was under half. Lucky for Taylor I know of a great gas station just out 33 in West Virginia. Ok, so maybe not that far, but Corina and I did run it up to Costco for gas and a couple of items for her upcoming birthday party. Confession time, I've never driven a miata before, but I'm kind of afraid I like it now. I don't know if I'll ever make that jump since they still have a 'chick car' stigma in my mind, but I have a better appreciation for the appeal of them now. I guess I could get one for the wife, then accidentally drive it all the time. I think the only thing I'd do differently would be to check the trunk and make sure there's not a big ol' box of oontz in the back before you try to load up a costco cart full of stuff. Cabin was a bit crowded on the way home, but my daughter survived. |
