Project: R3D3MPTION? - Senor_Taylor - 06-26-2018 Wow, didn't expect this car to go this direction. I'm really glad your getting this car so nice for when you sell it to me. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk RE: Project: R3D3MPTION? - Jake - 06-26-2018 Mmm, this is nice. Although I'd keep the non-flat Borbet centercaps. Project: R3D3MPTION? - Senor_Taylor - 06-26-2018 Can I vote against the borbet wheels? Is that okay? I think this would look sweet on some non-80s-coke-dealer wheels. Not trying to hate. GTFO RE: Project: R3D3MPTION? - Goodspeed - 06-26-2018 The itty-bitty Borbets will so-perfectly round out the look of this car being of the 80's/90's German tuner scene if that's what you're going for. You'd then just need to strip & paint/clear the interior and install a chromed-out rollbar & diamond-plate floor mats for maximum nostalgia. The paintwork looks awesome, and probably for the best - if you left it as-is cosmetically and put the Borbets on, you'd probably be mistaken for a low-level Turkish gangster everywhere you went. [emoji23] Project: R3D3MPTION? - Senor_Taylor - 06-27-2018 I'm hoping I come around on the the Borbets. If Dave and Goodspeed like them, I surely must be wrong. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk RE: Project: R3D3MPTION? - .RJ - 06-27-2018 Its ok. Those wheels were probably made before you were born... Project: R3D3MPTION? - Sijray21 - 06-27-2018 It's definitely an 80s style. I like it, but I do know a lot that don't. Size and offset matter a lot for me whether I like the set on the car or not. After googling the images I'm 100% on-board with the flat caps. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
RE: Project: R3D3MPTION? - davej - 06-27-2018 Some powdered sugar sprinkled on the console and a Kaan in the driver seat would complete the look for sure! The flat caps I'd get would be the ones above that have 'Borbet' imprinted on them so it's not a vast wasteland of nothingness. I still have a set of the Team Dynamics spec e30 wheels that will be going on the car right away, and probably for a good while. If I can get the Borbets to fit with out looking silly, I'll probably swap between the two depending upon what the car is up to that week. If the Borbets end up being pokey or rub, they'll be for sale.
RE: Project: R3D3MPTION? - Goodspeed - 06-27-2018 I *love* those Team Dynamic Pro Races. One of the best looking wheels ever, IMO. Definitely looking forward to seeing them mounted RE: Project: R3D3MPTION? - Senor_Taylor - 06-27-2018 (06-27-2018, 01:52 PM)Goodspeed Wrote: I *love* those Team Dynamic Pro Races. Project: R3D3MPTION? - davej - 06-27-2018 My other draw to the Borbets was the 9" rears, so if they can fit I might have a good shot at getting some decent rubber under there and *maybe* a bit of traction at WOT. 235/245 is my goal. Yes, it would take some of the silly out, but I still have some stock 195s to put on when the urge hits. Project: R3D3MPTION? - GTBrandon - 06-28-2018 So glad you brought this paint back and fixed the rust, looks so prime. Other than AC, any other items on the list? I don’t remember what your interior was like, but I know that’s a great rabbit hole to go down next
RE: Project: R3D3MPTION? - davej - 07-05-2018 I'm back and forth on removing the dash from the white sedan and putting a dash cap on. If I didn't have to reinstall the cracked one in the sedan I'd be tempted to do that, but a dash cap is like $200 and 4 minutes of my life. Other than that the interior was in decent shape but I do have leather sport seats to swap for the vinyl, and a leather sko pass upper back seat. Still need to find a leather bottom though. RE: Project: R3D3MPTION? - davej - 03-15-2019 For anyone playing along at home, this car still exists. There's been a few updates, I went with a dash cap for now, ended up selling the Porsche fitment Borbet's, and got a bit of time to poke at a few things. My plan for the day was doing the e-brake cable and putting new top hats in. Long story short, John had the torch out before I knew what was happening and the day ended with me ordering new control arms, tie rod ends and rotors. We did get the fronts sanded down and painted, so hopefully it'll hold of future surface rust for a while (sitting in the dirt for 6 months or whatever its been is not good for any car) The ebrake cables weren't too bad, the torch made an appearance again, I puckered up for the second time that day, but everything came out with out too much of a fuss. Hoping to finish up the front end with some Lemforder control arms, tie rods, sway endlinks (front and rear) and whatever else I have left in the box. (including sanding and painting the Treehouse CAB's I neglected to do before sending them to DJ once upon a time) There's still some body work to finish cleaning up but John is amped up to have it ready for the show since he's a sponsor this year. (Many thanks Jackson for getting that fire lit!) I've got more interior things to do but those will be easier when I have it home and can do it at night. Had a good heart stopping moment, and I'm still not sure how it happened, but as he was moving the car back up one time I was walking around it and screamed at the top of my lungs for him to stop when I saw this. We were about an RCH away from the rear of the car falling off the arm and probably tearing up the entire rear. Transmission jack to the rescue and it was fine, but hotdam my pulse is elevated again just thinking about it. Project: R3D3MPTION? - Senor_Taylor - 03-15-2019 I still can't believe this car sat outside in mud for months after fresh paint. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk |
