Sounds like me having a nightmare about that ripped-to-shreds motor mount earlier in the week  At least you and I both fixed our shit. Hopefully that will fix your clunk. If not, check the caliper bolts. I managed to leave one loose on my old E34 and lost it mid-drive-to-work. The clunk was the caliper swinging out and hitting the wheel Confusedhock:

Glad you're having fun though!! Miatas are great, cheap cars to play with and it's cool to see a few MMers figuring that out.

Re: Whole lotta Miata - *insertusernamehere* - 10-08-2015

I'm bout to just say fuck the space, fuck the fake roof and just get a miata. Everytime I ride and drive one I want it. Then two hours later my rational brain says "no too small, don't do it"

This was my trunk every week or two.

More than enough space for anything you'd conceivably need to carry, unless you're into canoeing or something.

Biking?

You can always cut Taylor's in half for more storage too

Re: Whole lotta Miata - Senor_Taylor - 10-08-2015

James and I compared. His NB trunk is at least 50% bigger than mine is. NA trunks suck ass. I can't even fit a small cooler in there.

I was able to fit a full-size suitcase in my NA trunk. It's just shaped funny but you can fit a lot in it. This was, of course, without the spare tire in it.

Re: Whole lotta Miata - Sully - 10-08-2015

I don't remember miata trunks but after having an m3 which could hold like 3 dead hookers, the s2k trunk is tiny. It has a deep well that is nice but isn't really big enough for anything so pretty much things just can't sit flat in the space you do have. And the spare comes out too far, it sucks but then again, I guess I have a truck when I need to fit things in places. Maybe you need something like that Taylor. You know, a small truck for when you need to haul things?

That's crazy talk! My truck is just to drive to the mall and back.

Re: Whole lotta Miata - Senor_Taylor - 10-15-2015

It seems my speedometer cable is at the end of it's life. It made a noise this morning and I thought my car was about to explode so I drive it back home and took my truck to class. Colton came over to take a look around 3 and it didn't make any noise at all. Drove to work, then got off at 9:30 and drove home and it was making the noise again. That was when I noticed the noise was coming from the speedo, and not some suspension parts. Sure enough, the speedo was jiggling and making an awful noise. Looked it up, and sure enough, bad speedo cables act up when it's cold. Today being the first real cold day I've driven in. I really don't feel like messing with this. Maybe I'll find a way to shoot some lube up in there.

Re: Whole lotta Miata - Jake - 10-16-2015

Hehe, lube.

I'd probably ignore it until the speedometer stopped working altogether.

Til then, turn the radio up more. Wink

Re: Whole lotta Miata - Senor_Taylor - 10-16-2015

That's the plan, but it's actually REALLY loud.

Yeah wow I'm not looking forward to that!

I know how you should fix it though:

Re: Whole lotta Miata - Senor_Taylor - 12-11-2015

RIP Michelle the Miata: 1992-2015

Long story short, I let an MM'er borrow Michelle and they totaled it. Ice+Mountain = bad.

So now comes the question of what to do with it? I really don't want it anymore considering the amount of stuff messed up on it, but that'll all be figured out sooner or later. I'm pretty upset since I broke the bank and struggled all year to afford having this and I was very happy with where it was, and now all of that time, effort, and money is gone. I'm back to square one, with less money and a little more experience. I've never been as attached to anything as much as I was that car. So many great memories in the short time it was with me and it let me finally be a true member of MM. For that, I'm thankful. It would be a romantic gesture to blow way too much money and attempt to fix it, but it's not worth it. It'll never be "right" and then I'll have dumped $4-5 to have a POS.

The whole front is pushed back, radiator is sheared out of its brackets, headlights are all wonky and making the battery die because the dash light won't go off. Airbags deployed and wrecked the lower dash, I believe something in the subframe is bent because the front passenger wheel has positive camber. Countless small things included every single body panel is now missing paint from all of the panels sliding into each other.

I also managed to melt a set of jumper cables trying to charge the battery and slammed the trunk shut so hard that the entire back plastic fairing thing exploded off.

If anyone is looking to buy a parts Miata or wants one to fix, hit me up.

Re: Whole lotta Miata - ScottyB - 12-11-2015

aaaaaaaaaah sucks...i know you put a ton of effort into this thing and enjoyed it. glad everyone's OK. i always wonder how well those 20 year old airbags work.

i'm assuming parting this out would net you more than an insurance payout. you can sell miata parts just about anywhere.

Re: Whole lotta Miata - Senor_Taylor - 12-11-2015

Insurance wouldn't give us anything since we both have liability. Plus, the spike in my premium would be worse than anything.

I honestly don't have the time nor the motivation to part it out, so I'm just going to sell it all together and just take the loss. To say I'm bummed is an understatement. Unfortunately, it doesn't have many, or any of the desirable Miata parts.

Re: Whole lotta Miata - RawrImAMonster - 12-11-2015

I hope whoever crashed it is paying up.

Re: Whole lotta Miata - Jake - 12-11-2015

I guess posting a short recap of the advice I've provided over PM isn't the worst thing.

1. I'm really sorry this happened to your car. It completely sucks. I'm bummed for you.

2. I'm really glad that all people involved were okay and I hope you are too as that's something you didn't mention. Cars can be replaced, people cannot.

3. Whether you want to part out (more $$) or sell whole (easier), you live smack in the middle of the NASA Mid-Atlantic and WDCR SCCA region. Someone will buy it and make it a Spec racecar.

4. You would be foolish to throw away a friendship over what happened. For an example of how to total a car and remain friends, talk to G and Channing.

I hope you guys can come to a reasonable agreement of how to make things right. Make a for sale ad and I'll happily pimp it around the NASA groups for ya.
