If they expect me to upgrade to the PS4 slim or whatever to be able to run VR then I'm just going to wait until I can build a PC. Consoles are stupid. Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - Ken - 08-23-2016 WRXtranceformed Wrote:You would have to literally pay me to buy another Microsoft gaming system. Their hardware, specs and sales have been lagging behind Sony for a while now. Would be interesting to see them catch up so that it keeps spurring more innovation. The New PS is mostly a refresh but is also supposed to be 4K capable Lol, i know, i know. The PS4.5 is basically just a refresh, they just added 4K compatibility. The PS4 Neo is the one where they are doubling the GPU and changing the RAM to one about 25% faster. It's a nice upgrade for sure, but i don't think it's going to be enough to do VR well. Anyone who does some research will probably come to the same conclusion and wait for the Xbox Scorpio and its 6 Teraflop WhateverAMDdesigned GPU so that it can do VR, and do it well. Which is why i think Sony pulled a Dreamcast here. They may be first, but they may not be doing it well enough for anyone to justify not waiting. Who knows though, going to be interesting to see it play out. Honestly, i just see the PS4.5 and Xbox1S as cheap HD BluRay players. Kind of how like back in the day the PS4 was the cheap way to get a blu-ray player. I was considering doing it just for that, for those movies that i really do want to get the highest quality possible. IMO. Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - CaptainHenreh - 08-23-2016 Apoc Wrote:I don't think we'll get there, if ever, because it's largely a gimmick.... IMO. I have to agree. The tech has been here for a while. Shit, Descent had VR support, 21 years ago. There's really just a limited number of applications (racing being one, flight sims being a second) that it really works well for. I'd see Augmented Reality stuff via HUD/Google Glass style system being far more likely to take off mainstream than VR. Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - Dave - 08-29-2016 Noob XB1 owner. Looking for my first game to really dive into. Torn between Witcher or Destiny. Both have big bundle packages that will let me efficiently get all the DLC at once, but they're obviously very different games and I'm not buying both (right now).. I enjoy FPS, but don't think I'm very good at it. I tend to over-analyze every situation to (hopefully) ensure success, rather than jump in with guns blazing; this makes me slow (not necessarily a bad thing for campaigns, but not good for PvP). I'm drawn to the team PvE approach to Destiny though. Drawn to the medieval aspect of Witcher (though I've heard its a little grindy). I understand both can be large time commitments. Make your recommendation on these, or other must-haves... Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - CaptainHenreh - 08-29-2016 Dave Wrote:Noob XB1 owner. Between those two, knowing you? Witcher, 110%. Buy++. Team PvE sounds fun, until you realize that it's the same 8 fuckin' things over and over and over, and as soon as people you enjoy playing with stop playing it, it's just you and a bunch of (hopefully!) mute strangers grinding for slightly better gear...to use in PvP. Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - SlimKlim - 08-29-2016 Witcher isn't too grindy for an RPG unless you're the type of player that has to max out all your stats and gear, pretty good storyline too. Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - G.Irish - 08-29-2016 Destiny tends to be a lot more fun when you have people to play with. Lee and I still play but the MM group has moved on for the most part. With the Witcher you don't need a group for the end game stuff. Destiny does have a pretty cool community and a new DLC release coming next month. It's also way less grindy than it used to be. If you want to join, now would be a good time. Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - Mike - 08-29-2016 Picked Destiny back up about a week ago. Been a good time so far, but I'm over 300 light and it's getting a bit grindy again. Unless you think you can play with friends regularly, I'd say Witcher is a better bet. Destiny solo isn't much fun. Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - WRXtranceformed - 08-29-2016 I'm biased toward Destiny because I'm still playing and have been drinking the kool aid for a while, but you're definitely limited if you don't have a core group of good players to play it with. Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - Dave - 08-30-2016 Well, based on the little I've read of this thread, it seems like everybody playing Destiny here is doing it on PS, so I'm SOL from this crew. I'm playing the free trial and I enjoy it, but I can see how having a fireteam of friends makes it better. Guess it doesn't really matter though, as I can't imagine my 14 light Guardian is going to be able to even keep up with a 300+ one... Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - Mike - 08-30-2016 Grouping with higher level people is managed pretty well. In PvP it actually balances the levels. So you're on Xbox? Like I said, I've been rocking Destiny recently again on it. Have a couple of friends who do too. Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - Dave - 08-30-2016 Yeah, my username is balticZ if you want to update the first post. When those things didn't happen, he became a liar and you could argue a thief. Sure, people could have waited and read reviews or paid closer attention to the actual shipping features, but when you've spent the last two years gorging yourself on video interviews of the game's creator, you've been presented a game that you did not receive. Not even close to it really. That's bullshit. I'm sure a lot of this has to do with Sony giving Hello Games (a tiny studio) a large sum of money to release the game NOW and only for THEM. I can only hope the shit that is now covering Hello Games' faces stands as a learning lesson to other small developers. Those f'rs even had the nerve to delete as many of the videos in which they promised this and that as they could. That's some Grade A BS. Shame on them. |
