That's one hell of a privilege premium. - Evan - 06-09-2008 according to the apple fanbois on engadget, the whole point of owning an iPhone is to show off that you can afford it..... - .RJ - 06-09-2008 Evan Wrote:the whole point of owning an iPhone is to show off that you can afford it..... Thats not much of a point. I'd think most high school kids with a part time job could scrape together $400. - Evan - 06-09-2008 I agree. Everyone knows that the whole point of buying an iPhone is .RJ Wrote:desire for cool factor
- .RJ - 06-09-2008 Its the trendy thing to do :dunno: - Mike - 06-09-2008 i'm getting an iphone because... 1) i already carry an mp3 player with me just about everywhere 2) i was going to purchase a digital camera to take with me everywhere 3) i was going to purchase gps soon 4) the internet anywhere is pretty f'ing handy so by buying an iphone, i'm saving a considerable amount of money
- JackoliciousLegs - 06-09-2008 I think at a $200 price point, they'll sell like hotcakes. HOT. CAKES. There's no reason not to anymore. What are their drawbacks? Are there features that the iPhone is lacking? The ones I can think of are MMS (but email is better imo) and video recording (99% sure third party app will take care of this). - Ginger - 06-09-2008 JackoliciousLegs Wrote:There's no reason not to anymore. AT&T. - Beej - 06-09-2008 asteele2 Wrote:After having Verizon for years (and loving it), I've found AT&T's coverage to be just as good - I don't know that I've ever not had coverage. Similar dropped call rate (very low with both), etc - I have no regrets except below.JackoliciousLegs Wrote:There's no reason not to anymore. The one huge selling point of Verizon is that it works in the Metro - I just didn't know I'd be living in the city when I switched. Anyone want a 1st gen EDGE iPhone on July 12th? - Sijray21 - 06-09-2008 Beej Wrote:The one huge selling point of Verizon is that it works in the Metro - I just didn't know I'd be living in the city when I switched. one *big* reason i like verizon wireless is because a lot of people that i call during the peak hours of the day are also verizon wireless customers and thus do not tap into my monthly limit - so i can run a cheap, low-limit plan if Verizon offered the iPhone i'd be all over it for $199 - JackoliciousLegs - 06-09-2008 Well, yeah, in DC it's tough. In SF, att has the BART exclusively. - Apoc - 06-09-2008 JackoliciousLegs Wrote:There's no reason not to anymore. What are their drawbacks? Are there features that the iPhone is lacking? A hard keyboard. That's actually my #1 complaint after using one for a bit. Well there's that and the fact that I'm a certified apple hater.
- JackoliciousLegs - 06-10-2008 Bah... I actually like the soft keyboard better. I got super fast on it. It just took some getting used to. - Apoc - 06-10-2008 JackoliciousLegs Wrote:Bah... I actually like the soft keyboard better. I got super fast on it. It just took some getting used to. You asked. It's actually a deal breaker for a lot of people.I've also never seen anyone carry an iphone in their pocket and not take it out when they sit down. I guess I wouldn't see it if they didn't take it out but a lot of people seem to. Is that attention whoring or is it because it's too big? - BLINGMW - 06-10-2008 so..... at $200, they can't be making much $ on it. I guess AT&T gives a % back to Apple for service? Or are they going to flood the market, then dump AT&T and whore it out to other providers for more of a share? Start their own service? I just wonder what they're up to.... - .RJ - 06-10-2008 Apoc Wrote:Is that attention whoring Yes. That and everyone around here seems to be unable to function without a phone permanently attached to their head or sending a text message. - Ginger - 06-10-2008 BLINGMW Wrote:so..... at $200, they can't be making much $ on it. I don't know what the reciprocal agreement is, but I know that hey want to sell 10 million phones this year... whatever their margin is, times a lot of phone is still a lot of money
- Maengelito - 06-10-2008 .RJ Wrote:Apoc Wrote:Is that attention whoring how else are they gonna plan their vacation to OBX? - BLINGMW - 06-10-2008 Just searching real quick, I find a lot of stories on the previous model's profit margin, over 50%! <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,244961,00.html">http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,244961,00.html</a><!-- m --> But it still cost them ~$280. Others claim as low as $250. So maybe they've cut out another $50 from their costs and they're making nothing? I can't imagine they got it down much more than that. |
