- .RJ - 03-22-2006 Compression test: 150, 152, 150, 155 At least they're all busted. - .RJ - 03-22-2006 Mike Wrote:wannabe redneck? tysons corner is not the south. You dont know where my whole damn family is from then
- Mike - 03-22-2006 .RJ Wrote:Compression test: then how the hell did you smoke me? maybe you busted it since then? - .RJ - 03-22-2006 Its down on power and about 20psi compared to last year ![]() Time to put the voodoo doll in the car and hope for one more good weekend out of 'er
- Jeff - 03-22-2006 Evan, its been a hard week, and its only tuesday Anyway, I wonder how many road miles a day at the track equals? I mean, what is the wear and tear relative to normal road miles? 20,000 miles/weekend? - .RJ - 03-22-2006 Hard to say - with the ITR, compression test, power, and oil consumption was the same the day I sold it as the day I bought it - from what I could tell, 4,000 track (15 weekends) and 10,000 street miles put zero apreciable wear on the engine at all. - Jeff - 03-22-2006 I guess it depends on the car, was ur first Teg purchased new? The older teg is just showing her age I guess. - .RJ - 03-22-2006 Nah, bought it used, was driven by a lady as a commuter car for 60k miles. The race 'teg I bought with 98k, its now got 115k. - ViPER1313 - 03-22-2006 Are you sure the gauge is OK? Did you open the throttle? I think it's weird that all the cylinders would have dropped compression so evenly. No stock, non-boosted motor (especially from Honda) should drop 20psi in all cylinders after a season of events (at least in my line of thinking). I thought those engines were bulletproof..... Hell, I drove the GL like a retard every day for 2 years - throttle was always on or off, too much jackassery to list, the car was never maintained, and it's compression is still even and at the top of the factory specs at 135k miles. Not true race conditions, but stressful on the motor nonetheless. The SHO still had honing marks on the cylinder walls at 135k miles. - .RJ - 03-22-2006 ViPER1313 Wrote:Are you sure the gauge is OK? Yes, I know it is good - I used it on another car tonight also. ViPER1313 Wrote:Did you open the throttle? Yes, and killed the fuel injectors - sometimes i know what i'm doing ![]() ViPER1313 Wrote:I think it's weird that all the cylinders would have dropped compression so evenly. Why? Unless something broke, they all wear out the same. ViPER1313 Wrote:No stock, non-boosted motor (especially from Honda) should drop 20psi in all cylinders after a season of events (at least in my line of thinking). I thought those engines were bulletproof..... You should ride with me on track sometime. Track use is very hard on everything - and i'm harder on this motor than I've ever been on one. Stock power drops off by 6800 rpm, with a stock fuel cut of 7100 - i'm shifting at 7600-7700 rpm. And besides, it is "bulletproof" in that it hasnt blown up. I could probably put it in a street car and it woul go another 100k. ViPER1313 Wrote:Not true race conditions, but stressful on the motor nonetheless. The SHO still had honing marks on the cylinder walls at 135k miles. No, its not even close. Short bursts of accelleration are way different than 20 minutes of 7000+ rpm in 90+ degree heat. I'm sure I will still have the factory hone marks on the bores, but that doesnt mean the rings havent given up the ghost and the valve seals are seeping. - Feersty - 03-22-2006 I like the battle flag .RJ, good choice. - Evan - 03-22-2006 .RJ Wrote:Its down on power and about 20psi compared to last yeareh I dont think anything is wrong with the engine. Its probably the shitty gauge that I lent you, or the fact that its cold outside. The engine pulls strong and the numbers are even - Sijray21 - 03-22-2006 Evan Wrote:.RJ Wrote:Its down on power and about 20psi compared to last yeareh I think you are being dramatic. Its probably the shitty gauge that I lent you, or the fact that its cold outside. The engine pulls strong and the numbers are even you can try again with mine if you really want to - i did a test on my teg before i bought it and it read 180 across the board - .RJ - 03-22-2006 Evan Wrote:Its probably the shitty gauge that I lent you, or the fact that its cold outside. The engine pulls strong and the numbers are even Well, using the same gauge I also tested the car I crew for that we run the 12 hr with - that engine has seen 3 12-hr races, a bunch of sprint races and for the past 2 years sat for 8 months at a time - compression was 175-180 across all 4, as it should be. I will probably pull the spare engine apart an assess it's condition - new pistons and valves and the associated machine work is going to add $500 to the cost of rebuild. - .RJ - 03-22-2006 Gasket Set - $91 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ACURA-IN ... dZViewItem Bearing Set - $99 Rings - $120 (OEM Honda) Oil Pump - $120 (OEM Honda) ARP Rod Bolts - $40 Thats about all the parts i need - the gasket set doesnt come with a few things, like cam seals (i've got a pile of 'em anyways) and injector o-rings ($2/ea). Machine work I'd need is a hot tank, deck the block and head, hone job, press in new rod bolts/re-size rods and valve job - Possibly balance as well - I can lap in the valves, port the cylinder head and assemble everything in my garage. - Jeff - 03-22-2006 wow, nice goods. The rings are mighty espensive! Wouldn't a set of Total-seal or Sealed Power be just as good and cheaper? Also, I thought that OEM was the way to go for gakets (thats for moper at least) - .RJ - 03-22-2006 TurboOmni08 Wrote:Wouldn't a set of Total-seal or Sealed Power be just as good Nope. - HAULN-SS - 03-22-2006 Why not? you can get those hyperteutic(sp?) pistons, and I've seen people take those out after a few thousand miles and they still look like brand new - .RJ - 03-22-2006 HAULN-SS Wrote:Why not? you can get those hyperteutic(sp?) pistons, I need to use stock (or OEM equivalent) pistons, and the OEM honda rings seal better and last longer inside these engines. HAULN-SS Wrote:and I've seen people take those out after a few thousand miles and they still look like brand new I should certainly hope pistons still look new after only a few thousand miles....... - HAULN-SS - 03-22-2006 i was trying to emphasize that the coating really protects them and keeps them from showing wear as much |
