I'm half leaning towards talking to Cole and making the suspension bits and ebrakes a MAAP project for some students. Let them deal with the seized cables. =p (I can say this here because no students frequent the forums) RE: Project: R3D3MPTION? - Chinampa - 02-08-2018 No ebrake cables pls no RE: Project: R3D3MPTION? - davej - 02-08-2018 (02-08-2018, 06:29 PM)Chinampa Wrote: No ebrake cables pls no Damnit, who let this guy in? RE: Project: R3D3MPTION? - Chinampa - 02-08-2018 The door was open RE: Project: R3D3MPTION? - Jake - 02-09-2018 This is exciting! I know nothing about good paint/body work so whenever someone can be bothered to care about their car's paint AND post pictures, I love seeing/learning. Gonna look fantastic when it's done. Project: R3D3MPTION? - davej - 04-27-2018 Nothing much new to report on the paint front, slow goings when I can only get up there for like 3-4 hours a month. We did get it up on a lift and blast the rest if the crud away underneath it, and finished sanding down the filler spots. ![]() ![]() The big excitement was this little sedan popped up for sale yesterday. Not running, but it cranks over and has a treasure trove of my parts list. Dash is crack free, re-done sport seats in tan leather, ski pass leather rear seat, and another set of basketweaves for the stash. Plan is to replace parts with generic ones, try and get it running, then sell car and hopefully get my parts for free. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The purchase of this car lead to some interesting conversations and another unnamed car is being pulled out of their barn tonight. That'll get its own thread once secured in our possession. Project: R3D3MPTION? - GTBrandon - 04-27-2018 Ohhhh man tuned in for more, and knowing Dave, my guess is some old equally unreliable british roadster. Project: R3D3MPTION? - davej - 04-27-2018 Not a bad guess. If we were playing horseshoes you'd get a point. Project: R3D3MPTION? - JPolen01 - 04-28-2018 I love your adventures Dave. Keep on going! RE: Project: R3D3MPTION? - davej - 06-25-2018 Got a bit of progress on the old girl. After hand sanding the entire car 2-3 times because John would say "I still see shine, do it again" I feel I have a deep spiritual connection with the car now. It finally got to the point all the chips/dings were fixed, and he was pointing out problem areas that I honestly couldn't tell were there. Maybe after a couple more times doing this my eye will develop, but I was glad for his close oversight. I helped tape the car a couple weeks ago, and the plan was to start paint last week, but we had to run up to NY for a family emergency and I missed paint day. John didn't mind since I was able to help him with the tedious prep parts, but I was really looking forward to watching/learning the paint process. We went with a single stage paint from PPG at his suggestion (I need to double check details on what it was). The last two rust areas in the rear valance were fixed and the car got a coat last week. He sounded like he was going to do another coat but I haven't talked to him yet to see what happened. He did teach me a neat trick about roping the window seals to get paint under them without having to take out the glass entirely. After only knowing the car as pink from years of fade, the red is really, really red. (please forgive his potato pictures) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Oh, and I forgot I blasted off that old insulation for some better looking stuff. ![]() ![]() ![]() Still a long way to go, but grateful for reaching this milestone! RE: Project: R3D3MPTION? - JPolen01 - 06-25-2018 Looks awesome!!! RE: Project: R3D3MPTION? - D_Eclipse9916 - 06-25-2018 I am uh, going to need the car back for a couple months to uh, yeah fix uh stuff, yeah..... I've been kicking around the idea of putting ac back in so it'd be bearable for you in NC The next item for me to figure out is my impulse wheel purchase. I'd been keeping an eye out for some 16" Borbet type a's in 4x100, but the one or two sets I've seen over the years have come with a stupid price tag. I found a set for Porsche fitment and now need to figure out if I can make them work. ![]() It's a staggered set 16x7.5 et20 & 16x9 et15 but 5x130. Adapters all seem to be 20mm, although some had 25/30mm also. So assuming a 20mm adapter, that would make the fronts a +0 and rears -5? Or am I thinking about this wrong? Any good beginners guides to #stancenation you can link me to? I need to figure out what size tires to run and do I need adapters & spacers on the front? So many questions, so much I don't understand about wheel setups. The car is down on BavAuto sport springs and Billy struts. My goal is to have a drive-able car with as much rubber under the rear as I can get with out rubbing or looking pokey. Project: R3D3MPTION? - JPolen01 - 06-25-2018 You need to consult the stance master, Paul Galleron. RE: Project: R3D3MPTION? - ryangreen1 - 06-25-2018 This just keeps getting better and better. It is very red now and those wheels are gonna look amazing on it RE: Project: R3D3MPTION? - davej - 06-25-2018 (06-25-2018, 04:56 PM)JPolen01 Wrote: You need to consult the stance master, Paul Galleron.Polecat, you're a genius! I'll also be ordering the flat caps for the wheels since they look about 200% better.
Project: R3D3MPTION? - Sijray21 - 06-25-2018 Looks great! Looking forward to the after paint pics. Btw, love the wheel choice. RE: Project: R3D3MPTION? - HAULN-SS - 06-25-2018 http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp Not sure if that's what you need or not but it is a good tool I used when finding rooms that were a different offset, diameter, etc from stock. Project: R3D3MPTION? - Sijray21 - 06-26-2018 I've been using www.willtheyfit.com It doesn't account for camber or caster though.
