Whoa, whoa, whoa... I thought you said they were all the same and to just buy one?

In other news, it took me two days, but I finally got my XB1X hooked up properly to the LG OLED. Holy balls. I showed my wife a 4K video from youtube and she actually thought the picture quality was too good - "it's like real life, but it isn't... I don't know if I can watch a whole show like that." I accidentally had some HDR faking setting on the TV that make everything really bright; she didn't think it was too much after that. Amazon Video 4K was a little weaker, but still pretty good. Watching 1080p DirecTV is really disappointing after seeing the native 4K stuff. It's just fuzzy and there is some ghosting that kinda feels like when you watch 480p after being used to 1080p. I'm not sure if it's a function of upscaling or the signal just plain sucks. I need to upgrade our DTV receiver. Upscaling of games like Destiny 2 is definitely noticeable - the picture is just cleaner and brighter.

Pro tip: If you have an AV receiver, chances are it won't pass the 4K signal along.

I had to rework my topography to make my receiver the last component in the line. Before it was HDMI with receiver before TV (DTV > XB1X > AV > TV) and now the receiver is after the TV (DTV > XB1X > TV > AV) with sound being sent via optical. This did introduce an audio sync issue that I was able to correct with an audio delay setting on my TV.

Interested to see what settings you tweaked, my plan was to follow this - RTINGS LG OLED C7 Settings.

Yeah - my AV receiver says "4K Passthrough," which, is true. Insofar that ONE of the 4 fucking inputs is 2.2 along with the output. Fuckers.

My plan is to plug all into the TV and then utilize the ARC to push audio to the receiver. Just have to do all my switching through the TV which may be better anyway. May be worth giving that a shot for simplicity sake.

I didn't go into expert settings, so maybe I'll reference this tonight and see if I can still do some tweaking. I'm also using one input because everything goes through the xbox, so I don't have the option of adjusting each input for it's desired settings.

Things I did do:
> turn energy saving off
> picture mode of APS (previous had HDR effect)
> turn on HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color

First thing to do is to turn on 'HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color' for the HDMI port where you intend to connect your HDR UHD Blu-ray players (or video games console if you are using it as a Blu-ray player), as some players may not detect that the TV can support the full HDMI bandwidth necessary for HDR content.

That last one was the most important. My XB1X reported my TV didn't support like 8 of 12 4K/HDR things and partially supported 3 others. After changing this setting, XB1X now says the TV supports all but one (4K @ 50 Hz).

Just thought I'd add something since there is talk of 4k and inputs/receivers.

We have an AV closet and I ran one HDMI cord from there to the TV.

All the switching is happening through this Blackbird HDMI switch, supports 4k upto 60hz.

Blu-Ray, FiOS Box, and 4k capable Roku.

Pretty sure the Roku may get retired based on my impression of the Apps and UI on the new TV.

https://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=101&cp_id=10110&cs_id=1011002&p_id=15262&seq=1&format=2

I may be limited by my cable, which says upto 4k at 24hz...but from what I have read the hz ratings on cables is all made up by the cable manufacturers.

Plan to snag a sound bar and do optical off the TV or ARC.

I remember the days of having a bunch of different components and apps on various devices. I don't miss it.

If there's one thing the XB1 did right, it's centralize all media consumption.

The only thing that annoys me is the media remote (which I don't own) is IR and my XB1 is in a cabinet.

Yea, not even sure why I have the Blu Ray hooked up, 95% of our library is digital.

Hopefully the apps on the tv will replace the Roku, then I can eliminate the switch all together.

Sony uses Android Apps and has Chromecast built in.

Still waiting on my 10 year old Samsung to die, but this “cords and AV units don’t carry 4K” nonsense is making me a little more patient.

So some iPhone X folks have complained about blurs or something when scrolling, I guess from individual pixels turning all the way off and back on. I don’t see it, but is that a concern for OLED TV’s, too? Any downside with that tech?

RE: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - Apoc - 11-10-2017

Cords aren't the problem, it's old hardware that was never designed for 4k. You can replace as much or as little as you want and that determines how you hook everything up. I personally don't want to replace my AV receiver.

I haven't read any concerns for TVs or seen any reports of problems with cell phones (many manufacturers have been using them for nearly a decade, including the apple watch). I'm guessing it's just a buggy first implementation.

I'd like to thank Citi and their Price Rewind feature for allowing my impatient ass to get my TV prior to black Friday.

Should have gotten the 75....but the wife would have had an even bigger cow for blocking more ship lappable wall space.

Really shitty pic of the kid watching some new version of Frosty where Frosty sounds like Patrick from SpongeBob.....[Image: 889948f94af3f53f2eba024e343ecff5.jpg]

I should never question you guys

I'm hoping they find something on the tv I bought in August. I think it's 6 months if their system comes across it. Fingers crossed

Yup. This TV is outrageously nice. I pretty much followed the calibration settings that guide recommended and everything looks amazing - with the exception that i used Cinema (Bright Room) as opposed to Cinema (Dark Room.) Much less "vivid" which i'm sure looks great in stores but just not as natural.

Watched some Netflix shows that had Dolby Vision enabled and it looked fantastic. No regrets.

RE: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - Apoc - 11-13-2017

I still have yet to dial mine in, but I did manage to rework my entertainment center that I now have voice control via Kinect back AND the ability for my XB1 to control my other components. For those unaware, the Kinect IR blaster stops working when you use the USB adapter for it. There's an IR blaster on the front of the XB1X (and S) that takes over that responsibility, so the XB can't be hidden unless you want to use the IR extender port on the back of the machine.

Last night, a bit before bedtime, I turned on a 4k fish video from youtube. My kid became instantly entranced and just sat in my lap to watch the fish swimming around. It had relaxing music and his eyes started to get heavy, which is a big deal if you knew how active my kid is. I didn't try that with the old TV, so I don't know if 4K had anything to do with it, but I didn't mind sitting there watching it either with that picture quality. We may have a new bedtime routine.

So true. A slightly better camera and nicer screen doesn't justify the extra cost to me personally.

RE: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - SlimKlim - 11-13-2017

I wanted it (although pricing isn't a factor for me with my employee discount), but I ended up going for the 8P due to a super long wait for employee availability and some other articles saying FaceID struggles in bright light and a lot of apps haven't been updated to take advantage of the screen.

I've really been enjoying the Phablet life so far though, this big bitch'll do for a while.

Anyone tried a Pixel 2? I think I'm gonna sell my 6P and spring for one soon because why not.

RE: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - JustinG - 11-16-2017

Google is doing a trade in on the Pixel and 6p. But probably get more selling on Swappa or eBay.

RE: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - JustinG - 11-16-2017

So I saw a refurbished 40in Vizio 5.1 Smartcast Soundbar, ie Chromecast built in, on Groupon for $200.

Got it setup today and mounted. Bar on the wall under the tv, rears on our table behind the couch, and sub under the same table.

So far it sounds great. Hooked up via HDMI (ARC).

My only complaint....the volume is controlled through the TV. But, at full soundbar volume, the TV is only showing like 30 of 100.

I know the bar is maxed, but I wish the numbers matched up, Full Volume on Soundbar = 100 on TV.

I couldn't find a way to sync the 2, so I guess I will have to survive.

Anyone else with this Bar able to match tv volume 1:1?
