I have mixed emotions about this. The man is clearly sick, and what does killing him do? Will it bring back the dead? Will it bring peace to the victim's families? Living in Manassas, it's particularly poignant...though I wasn't here at the time, I've certainly gotten gas at that Sonoco on more than one occasion. (And, I found out last Sunday, I attend the same church as Mr. Meyers did.)

He deserves to die, no doubt. But what does it solve?

I guess we can all sleep the peace of the just knowing an asshole got what he deserved, but... :dunno:

Cheaper to kill him than keep him alive for 30 more years. Saves us some tax dollars, were short on cash these days ya know.

It's really insane how much is costs to keep inmates/jails open. We work with 4 jails in our jurisdicton; Abingdon, Haysi, Duffield and Tazwell, with a total capacity of about 1400 between the four of them. To keep just those four jails open for a month, not counting payroll or any employee expenses, just bills to keep the inmates alive, is $975,000 a month. Insane.

I guess so. But if you're going to turn this into a financial argument, I've got some great ideas on saving the justice system some money, no death required.

There are all sorts of ways to save the justice system money, I'm sure both of us could list a dozen ways or more. But putting murderers to death is pretty high up on my list of the justice system "to do" list.
