Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Kaan - 05-23-2014 I'm pretty sure they aren't going to like the 150 miles/day at 80mph  Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Dave - 05-28-2014 SlimKlim Wrote:I'm in the absolute worst insurance category. Young male with a sperts cer. I remember when I called to get it on my policy when I was buying it and the woman snickered when I told her the make and model. It's pretty irritating a 20 year old 240hp BMW still throws up a dozen red flags in their little system when a significant number of modern SUVs and family sedans can beat it's ass to 60mph. I've seriously lost stop light races against V6 TLs.Makes sense to me... I'd bet 240hp is still higher than the average horsepower of all cars on the road today (regardless of how old they are), you're a youngin, and E36s have depreciated to the point that hooning is a much more common purchase reason. The insurance company is raping you to protect themselves from the inevitable payout of getting tangled up with somebody else's property. The prices are derived from crash/payout data on specific cars, not vehicle specs, as evidenced by Evan paying more for a Focus than a Lotus. Back to the thread topic, with Geico I'm currently paying $1500/year for the WRX, Odyssey, Otter, and F250, including collision coverage on the WRX and van. I'd love to see the truck and WRX be cheaper considering they aren't the cars being driven the most, but oh well. I have a perfectly clean driving record so I feel like it should be a little lower, but I guess it is a newish sports car with a decent amount of power. I lied, just got my new statement in the mail and I'm paying around $88 a month for insurance on the 135i. Significantly cheaper than the LS1 Trans Am + E36 M3 combined. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - V1GiLaNtE - 05-28-2014 I think I just payed $307 for 6 months on the XJ. Liability only with comprehensive. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - HAULN-SS - 07-29-2014 So I've been shopping around for insurance. State Farm sent me a certified letter lately that I haven't picked up - I suspect it's a drop coverage letter. They didn't even send the check for the cadillac certified. I have 2 claims with them this year, one for the camper (which I sold), and one for the cadillac which was comprehensive (supposedly doesn't count). So the cadillac has no claims showing on it, and as a driver I have 2 claims in the last 5 years or so - both relatively small under $2,000. So far, allstate and progressive are trying to charge double on the premiums, and I am still waiting to hear back from Erie and Nationwide. P.S. Fuck you very much state farm - had them for 12 years, and have always had 2 - 5 vehicles insured with them and homeowners Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - WRXtranceformed - 09-25-2014 Shopped basically every option for insurance on the market right now since our policy renews next month with Geico and our rates didn't really go down. For us Liberty Mutual saved us about $40/month for the same coverage. Scoreee Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - HAULN-SS - 09-25-2014 Oh yeah - as an update, state farm wasn't really dropping my policy. I still never switched to geico, but they did quote me a little cheaper. Wasn't worth all the hassle. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - WRXtranceformed - 04-21-2015 So LM did save us money for a while, until a local State Farm agent emailed me a new quote. Apparently an "at fault" accident (long story, wasn't my fault) just dropped off my record in March and my quote dropped by $600/yr. I didn't want to have to shop insurance again so soon but did a few more apples to apples online quote scenarios and at best I am looking at a 50% yearly rate reduction. MASSIVE! I'll take that! Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - davej - 04-21-2015 nice! just got my renewal for the '02 .... $217 for 12 months. antique insurance is the best! and it's got a $13,500 guaranteed replacement value.
Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - SlimKlim - 04-21-2015 I'm seriously considering putting the M3 on Hagerty or something to get agreed value coverage. I turn 25 this fall, do your insurance rates still fall at 25 or is that not a thing anymore? Would recommend not contacting Hagerty directly, they denied me the first time because I answered yes to questions like I'd take the car on trips for a show or out for a night around town. It was like they don't want to you do anything except a 5mph parade cruise. Waited a few weeks and had my regular agent at allstate put it through their system with Hagerty, no questions, no problems. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Senor_Taylor - 04-21-2015 What's the stipulations on the antique insurance? Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - davej - 04-21-2015 25 years old and it's not your only vehicle Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Senor_Taylor - 04-21-2015 Wow, that's very reasonable. Time to limit my search to Miatas from 89/90 only

Haggerty is (mainly) for collectors cars where the owner wants to value the car at a specific amount due to parts/modifications. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Senor_Taylor - 04-21-2015 Yeah, I'm joking. I've already got a quote to add a Miata with my truck. It'll actually lower my payment monthly by $20 because of some discount. Pretty sweet deal. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - SlimKlim - 04-21-2015 You probably already know this but you wanna look for mid-'91 and later cars, I think that's when they updated the SNC issue. I actually really, really adored the tiny little motor in my '90. The 1.6L makes up for it's absurd slowness by having a super light flywheel and just loving to rev. It seems like the extra ~15hp in the 1.8L made it a little more serious and heavy feeling. I'd get a 1.8L if you can afford it (because lets be honest it needs that extra dash of power) but a non-SNC 1.6L would still be a blast and you could be a snobby purist towards the 1.8L guys. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Senor_Taylor - 04-21-2015 I'm hoping to snag a 94+, so yeah, the 1.8. I've driven both the 1.6 and a 1.8 and I didn't feel much difference except the 1.6 was Scott's which is completely stripped of everything except the seats, haha. I know to avoid the Short Nose crank, I think it's 6 splines on the pulley is the sign, right? Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - SlimKlim - 04-21-2015 The SNC has 4 slots and the BNC has 8 on the crank pulley, easiest way to tell. Not an issue unless its a pre-'91 http://www.miata.net/garage/crankshaft.html Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - WRXtranceformed - 04-22-2015 Finalized things with Esurance today since they recently (finally!) opened up in NC. Quite literally cut our auto bill in half. The big difference among others was that they look back only 3 years for claims history where most of the other major carriers look back 5. Some of the other companies I talked to were cheaper for the same coverage but didn't come close to Esurance's rates. This might be the first time ever (as far back as I can remember) that our monthly auto insurance bill is less than $100. Sweet!!!
