cross plane was a GP technology. GP drops the CC and yamaha keeps the cross plane... but yamaha never put it in the R6?

20% more hp with 20% less displacement is a big deal.

5 of 7 have some sort of traction control... not nearly on the level of the race bikes in my opinion.

i'm just trying to say that if trickle down was better... faster... you'd be more happy with the toyota and the subaru cars that are coming out. Smile

Mac Struts up front? I suppose I should not be surprised since Subaru did the engineering, but it's a little disappointing.

Re: The market is BEGGING.... - Evan - 11-01-2011

meh, irrelevant. my wrx handled better than every wishbone honda I have ever driven

that's because awd = mad handling skillz y0!

Re: The market is BEGGING.... - CaptainHenreh - 11-01-2011

I don't disagree that mac struts aren't, like, some insurmountable crippling disadvantage...but if you're ditching AWD anyway, might as well add wishbones? Whatever, I don't really care.

I used to think suspension geometry = win. But suspension design engineers can do wonderful things with archaic designs. AKA= E36 M3 (wtf were they thinking mac strut up front), but it works..

agreed. see: S197 stang, cobalt SS, evo, etc etc

OMG you listed a fwd in there!

Re: The market is BEGGING.... - ScottyB - 11-01-2011

well he never mentioned anything about peg-leg burnouts...

Anyway, yeah, I don't disagree. Manufacturers can do some pretty crazy shit. I mean, the corvette has a leaf spring for fuck's sake. But still, I think time spent on making a mac strut dance vs same time spent on wishbones is probably going to result in a better car.

Though as I said, since Subaru was doing the engineering, I am not really surprised. I don't think they've ever done a production wishbone front suspension.

Not that im saying an inboard suspension isnt better, but the corvette composite transverse leaf spring suspension is actually a decent design that reduces unsprung weight, and allows decent suspension geometry. However, packaging constraints is the large reason its not used in other production vehicles. Also due to the design, the "spring" actually acts as an anti-roll bar itself, pretty cool if you ask me.

That said, why not go to an inboard suspension after all that work?

Re: The market is BEGGING.... - BLINGMW - 11-01-2011

I very well could have missed something, I haven't read through all the links. But is there any promise that this car, any variant of it, would even be brought to the states? Or is that just a safe assumption that comes from them showing it at US trade shows? :dunno:

Anyway, I like it, I'll take one used from you guys in 2014. Unless of course there's a 4-cyl diesel 1 series by then.

Yeah, it has two doors and is kinda small, so if you just ignore all the lines and styling and lack of clamshell doors.... :?: :?:

Right down to the over-emphasized wheel arches. It could easily pass for an updated RX-8.

You alone on that one. And even if most people thought it looked like a RX-8, it's not like the RX-8 is a bad looking car anyway.

Re: The market is BEGGING.... - Apoc - 11-01-2011

Not like my styling tastes are representative anyway. Remember, I'm the guy that said the RX-7 was ugly.
