xvxax Wrote:No, I didn't make it. I pulled out after my car died (the first time of two) at an autocross. My car is a pile of shit that can't make it through an autocross day let alone two track days. I've spent the entry fee and much more trying to fix my worthless car. That red m3 and the red 350z from the picture on the first post on this page are my friends, they both had a great time at the event but i forgot to ask who their instructors were. anyone from MM? Anyone want my car for $10,000? fucking a.
one too many zero's

He has a E36 with a M3 motor.

So I talked to Cobalt about my braking problems, and they think that its pad knockback from the pad backing plate being ever so slightly too large and binding in the bracket. They are overnighting me a modified set of pads. (and I get to keep the old ones and go crazy with a file on them)

This was Chad's hypothesis at the track so he gets a gold star. :p

can you just grind down the backing plate a little to allow it to move freely in the caliper?

Hasnt cobalt been pushing spec miata pads for some time now and they cant get their backing plates sized correctly?

i tried a set of cobalt sport GT pads that i used for the first time at this event. the pedal was getting a tiny bit mushy towards the end of sessions, but i never felt like the master cyl was messed up. i do have a problem with the backing plates not having those little holes drilled into the sides of them so i wasnt able to use those little paper clip retainer thingies. it sounds like the pads were grinding on the street because of that. aside from that though, the pad seemed like a good light duty track pad. we'll see how they hold up in july events

I went to high school with Matt Lofton, the guy who took the picture. We have a ton of mutual friends. I forgot that he was really into VW's.

Sorry, I felt the need to go off topic for a minute.

no. this is a brand new pad compound, brand new kind of backing plate. Im one of the first to use this pad for the 1.8 miata. The backing plate itself is actually very high quality. Much better than the crappy carbotech plates that I always have to file the slag off of. Of course they dont fit right, so it doesnt do much good, but they are supposedly fixing them.

maeng I would give the XR3s a shot next time. I dont see any benefit to using the GTsport, the dealer said the GTS actually is louder than the xr3

well, i was told that the GT sport pads would have the trackability of hawk HP+ but the streetability of axxis ultimates. i think the pads were decent but i'm not too sure it'd hold up when the hot weather comes around. i'll give the XR3's a shot sometime soon.

- Sijray21 - 05-24-2007

are those XR3's the equivalent to the Carbotech XP8s? Just wondering, i think i may try a new brake pad next time around for the 'teg.

- Maengelito - 05-27-2007

me and andy talked to a professor at JMU who was in dr. thomas' dept. i cant remember his name, but he was one of the many R32's there. anyone happen to know who he is? seemed like a really nice guy.

- Mike - 05-27-2007

- Maengelito - 05-28-2007
