RE: You're My Boy, Blue - ScottyB - 11-20-2018 hit again in a turn lane. just a boop resulting in paint damage but i think this makes 8 times now i've been popped, and 6 times its been a hit in the rear. guy that hit me was an old man, nice as can be but just twitchy and spastic and had a cane in the passenger seat, like he had some kind of palsy. said his foot slipped off the brake. he came roaring up behind me at the red we were sitting at and almost rear ended me the first time. i think he saw the straight lanes get a green and thought we were going too and just let his Tacoma roll into me. we pulled off into a business park to exchange info and he just about ran his truck up over the curb at the front of a parking spot. just all over the place. PLEASE guys, promise me when you get way up in years and shit on your body starts really malfunctioning, hang it up. You're My Boy, Blue - JPolen01 - 11-20-2018 I'm all for a license retest at a certain age. It's a known fact that reaction times slow with age. I have no idea how we as a society have let this go for so long. My wife's grandma is 90 and still driving. She's the biggest hazard on the road I've ever seen and my father in law is reluctant to discuss this with her. I get the loss of Independence thing but it's so dangerous for her and others around her. RE: You're My Boy, Blue - WRXtranceformed - 11-20-2018 Having also been rear ended in the Jag by an old man, I completely agree with you both. His response was "that will probably buff out" and mine was "nope, that's gonna be expensive". Guess who was right? Bummer Scotty, at least it wasn't a hit and run and his insurance will presumably pony up for the damage RE: You're My Boy, Blue - Apoc - 11-21-2018 I mean, shit on my body has been malfunctioning for years. Should I give us my license? RE: You're My Boy, Blue - ScottyB - 11-21-2018 (11-21-2018, 12:08 AM)Apoc Wrote: I mean, shit on my body has been malfunctioning for years. Should I give us my license? RE: You're My Boy, Blue - ScottyB - 11-27-2018 more boring stuff. appraiser came yesterday, probably going to be a new rear bumper skin i guess. i think they also replace car seats regardless of impact speed but we'll see. managed to survive driving through the center of Atlanta twice to get over to west GA to see family for Thanksgiving. turns out driving the day of, vs a couple days before, is awesome for avoiding traffic. cruised between 78-82mph almost the entire way going and coming back again. its a bit of a buzzy car at that speed but it'll eat miles just fine. loaded down with 4 souls, luggage, dog crate/pen, cooler, and a bike rack it returned just a hair under 30mpg combined. everyone knows a washed car is good for at least +2mpg come to GA, enjoy the foliage, try not to step in the swirling garbage wee man and pupper had so much room for activities highly recommend Duragloss 951 Aquawax. spray it on a wet car as you wipe it dry with microfiber towels. cheap, easy as it gets to apply and the beading is amazing. i only do a formal hand applied wax coat once a year anymore and fill in the gaps with this stuff. RE: You're My Boy, Blue - WRXtranceformed - 11-27-2018 Looking good man! I gotta get the CX5 detailed and a new Opticoat redone on the bumper that was replaced. We did the interior before we went to ATL. I agree on the traffic, we really lucked out on our drive there and back...traffic wasn't as bad around the city as I was expecting. Sunday was SUPER foggy across all of GA and SC though, made visibility a little poor on the interstates RE: You're My Boy, Blue - ScottyB - 01-15-2019 (11-27-2018, 11:26 AM)WRXtranceformed Wrote: Looking good man! Sunday was SUPER foggy across all of GA and SC though, made visibility a little poor on the interstates Opticoat is good stuff! i've heard I-85 is really sketch right now between Greenville and NC due to construction lane shutdowns. they're forcing tractor trailers into the left lane because the shoulder can't support them and its causing everyone to drive like a maniac. might wanna steer clear if you're thinking of heading that way any time soon. got ol blue back after spending last week driving a rental straight out of the shit dimension. new bumper skin, came out great. i always hated how the bumper was cracked when i bought it so i guess everything worked out. so fresh so clean giant box showed up friday with the next step for the suspension. 20mm OEM 9th gen Si bar, up from the current 17mm. these are bigly cheap so i couldn't resist. dimensionally the same, so its a bolt-in ordeal aside from some larger bushings to hold it. grabbed a Moog 20mm bushing/bracket combo and Moog HD end links. the links have a zerk fitting which is pretty cool for the long term. optimistic the install won't be a shitshow but its been quiet around here lately... RE: You're My Boy, Blue - ScottyB - 02-18-2019 well the rain cleared out and it got so nice i had to get off my ass and spin some wrenches. plugged in the 20mm 9th gen rear bar - fit like it's supposed to be there. its NOT anything amazing, considering the "big" bars are 24mm and adjustable. but again the hope here is to elevate the fun factor and performance to an envelope that's maybe 15-20% higher than stock, but is still daily-driver friendly, reliable, and predictable. doesn't hurt that this was cheap too, relative to most RSB kits. parts:
upsee daisy onto jack stands. i never get tired of this angle. got under the back and got a closer look at things. the bar sits ahead of the rear axle line and sends the bar ends forward which is different than any setup i've seen on a FWD/AWD car yet. weird, but super accessible. despite the lack of corrosion overall, there was no hope getting the endlinks off utilizing the allen key in the ends of the endlink bolts. Liquid Wrench + vice grips were the only way it was happening. old n' busted 17mm compared to the new 20mm hotness. bonus points for the bushings matching my paint. if you ask Moog "where's the beef?", they'll tell you. what a difference. love the zerks. amazingly the stock links felt smooth and the boots showed no cracks even at nearly 100k miles. closer view of the size difference. so i took it for a rip this morning in the cold, damp weather. not raining but the roads were soaked and greasy. had a chance to hit a couple good 90 degree turns through an undeveloped office park and the bar makes it very clear its there. come in hot with even a little trail braking and it immediately wants to pivot on the nose more. midcorner is neutral. exit is less understeer. i guess that's exactly what a bigger rear bar should feel like, so there you go. i'd bet all those effects will be less prevalent on dry pavement but i'm OK with that. really interested to see how it makes the car act on dirt considering it was tail happy to begin with the few times i chucked it around on those surfaces. You're My Boy, Blue - JPolen01 - 02-18-2019 Love the obligatory open hood shot even though you're working on the rear of the car. Glad you're having fun with this thing. Glad you're having fun with this thing. its not about how you stand by your car.... i'm neurotic about checking the oil and it makes me feel like i'm doing a better job if the hood's open anyway. i can't explain it. probably ricer syndrome. RE: You're My Boy, Blue - ScottyB - 03-11-2019 i hate that facebook keeps being useful in my life but sure enough it earned its place a little while longer when i was browsing some classifieds on Thursday. been on the hunt for some 16" wheels (the smallest i can go with these brakes) for a couple months now and couldn't find anything that wasn't either grossly overpriced or cheap and trashed. i want to take a more serious crack at rallyx and need more aggressive rubber (with some actual sidewall height) to do it. as an added bonus, if i use the 16's as a streetable second set of wheels it will let me replace the current garbage on the stock 17's with stickier, dedicated summer rubber. believe it or not it gets cold enough down here in GA that i can't currently run an ultra super duper summer tire all year. the civic is fortunate to share its lug pattern with a lot of other popular Japanese cars, so i had cast a pretty wide net as was looking for a set of decently straight wheels under $250. a guy in Greenville SC posted up these MSW Type 14's with 4 nearly new all seasons for $200 and after some initial hesitation that they were legit and not a ruse to take my kidney and leave me for dead, i told him i'd see him Saturday. they came off his wife's Mitsu Lancer ES and to my surprise were a total score...i guess he just needed some garage space back. they need some proper hub spacing rings, a good scubbing, a proper balancing, and the Sears DieHard tires (didn't know that was a thing until now) are a little tall at 205/60-16 but have almost full tread and will be adequate for this season and into winter next year. the tall sidewall may actually be a blessing, it gets me just about back to stock ride height and i don't think it'll rub anywhere. while i was busy driving up and back through the most depressing corridor of south carolina, everyone else was enjoying a pretty outstanding turnout at the local rallyx held that same day. Atlanta and Middle GA regions have merged their rally programs so this looks to be a really awesome season. TONS of FWD competition in the stock class, which makes me have bad thoughts if i should put my stock springs back on and have fun with them vs. only competing against 1 or 2 guys in Prepared class where i would be right now. the struggle is real. next event's a month out, hope to be reporting back with tales of Sears cheater tire domination and many VTEC braps.
