Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - Apoc - 05-17-2017

What's the point of having all those watches if you're gonna hide them in a drawer??

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - SlimKlim - 05-17-2017

Mine are dominating a little knicknack shelf Lauren has in our bedroom. If I buy too many more she's gonna kick me off of it but I sort of like having them wall mounted, maybe I'll build my own little thing to hang on my side of the room at some point.

Wall mounted is kinda where I'm headed, although 10 minutes of googling didn't result in an acceptable answer.

Heard back from undone - some parts are out of stock for the second watch, so they're waiting to get them back in.

G.Irish Wrote:So with Rolexes like the GMT, Daytona, etc. is it fair to say that they depreciate very little, if at all? Like could I buy a Daytona for like $11k now and sell it for $10500 next year? And for that level of watch, is watchuseek the best place to buy/sell or no?

I've been having bad Daytona thoughts (in addition to bad sports car and house thoughts).

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - Apoc - 05-23-2017

I'm probably the only guy who's had a custom watch built to memorialize a dead cat. I've wanted a "dark" watch and one that was a little bit more military style, so I went with black and cordura in green. I'm really digging the monochrome look and it's much easier to read at a glance than I expected. There is a bit of a QC issue on the band (pictured), but I'm thinking I can fix that with a tack of super glue or something. I might email them about it, but they're so buried I doubt I'll get a timely response. Maybe they send me another band? Iunno... we'll see. The engraving on this was is cleaner out of the box, for sure.

Here are some pictures - they came out a bit darker than reality.

Dude I really like that look, definitely stands out while still looking stealth! Those watches definitely turned out better than expected. That band keeper should be an easy fix with some super glue, but I would definitely see if you can get a free band out of it or something .

I picked up a cheap UV light to mess around with and wow, it is the easiest way to charge up lume to max brightness! You don't even have to leave it on as long as I did to supercharge it. Notice how the tritium deep blue isn't charged by it since its not traditional applied lume but still glows all the time anyway 8)

Got an unexpected surprise in the mail and some more goodies coming ... will post up when it's all ready!

Chris:

If you really want your mind to asplode, check this out. I was bored and spec'ing some of these out last night in bed. The cheapest and smallest "Man Safe" I put together with fire rating and no internal watch winders was over $5,000...

They even make entire freaking panic rooms:

Anyone who has had their eye on Oris watches, now is probably the lowest you will see them on Jomashop or any other resource. They are having an Oris Doorbuster event. You can also probably dig up another $50-75 off coupon out there on the webs:

Omegas also on Doorbuster:

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - WRXtranceformed - 05-26-2017

My Tissot is for sale for anyone who is interested. I found a yobokies' sapphire crystal-swapped Nighthawk that I am interested in and this one isn't getting much wrist time since I've become a diver junkie. Even if I don't end up getting it I'll just dump the cash into my Rolex slush fund Tongue

Thank you sir! They are awesome watches and really well made....and complete agree on the boxes they are so thoughtfully designed!

I really need to stay off the WUS forums  Ended up getting a great price on the Nighthawk I've been eyeing for a while after seeing a few in the wild. It also has the one mod I would have absolutely done: the mineral crystal was replaced with an AR sapphire crystal by NEWW (same guy that built my Seiko). Pics from the seller:

That Yobokies crystal tho!! Confusedhock:

One thing I love about this one is how clever the GMT / second time zone function is. The white and red airplanes on the 4th hand, which is independently set from the current time zone, point to the scale on the left that indicates your second time zone. With the way they were designed, after 12:00AM hits on the red scale, the white plane points to the AM hours (12:01+) on the white scale. Really really cool and very functional for my travel. Being an Eco-drive it's also a nice grab-and-go piece.

Should have an update on my little surprise later this week when I get back from Chicago 8)

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - Apoc - 05-27-2017

I really like that watch.

I have a dual time zone eco-deive that I haven't worn in 10+ years. Kinda odd, when you consider how much travel I was doing the last few years.

Nice!! Post up a pic when you get a minute, would love to see it! What's crazy about the Eco-Drives is that I bet if you pulled that out right now and left it in the light for a few minutes it is still running strong without any service work / battery change. Citizens really do a great job of engineering their watches, just a tremendous amount of value for the money.

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - Apoc - 05-28-2017

Here are the parts of my collection that haven't been posted here. From left to right: the Citizen Eco-Drive I bought on a Caribbean cruise with my family; Fossil my wife bought me at our two-year dating anniversary (in 2000); a Movado I can't remember anything significant about; the Tag Carrera my wife bought me for my 30th birthday (in 2008). I don't think I've worn anything but the Tag in the last 10 years.

The Timex was my dad's dad's watch - the one he was wearing when he died on the golf course. This watch doesn't currently work and I've never worn it, but I feel like it'd totally be normal in Seattle hipster fashion. I'll give it to someone in the next few years to give a once over and see what can be done with it.

I bought an apple watch today. Not sure why other than because it was on sale. It's pretty nifty to have notifications on my wrist and the voice to text is surprisingly good. [Image: 264f097cd14d70d0943d7087694299b1.jpg]
