So many great instructors hung it up. My instructor this weekend was great though. its my first track weekend in the integra... my old crx and I had several good trips to VIR followed by issues getting home don't you remember the bear? its been a LONG time and its good to be back.

I looked at my boost gauge when I came through turn 3... It said 16psi... That's all my 400 hp" were the guys I drove with and nobody will ever blame you. it makes me sad, because i'm quite content driving around in self preservation mode but at some point instructors will start to cost everyone money if this keeps up. i drove with a lot of new muscle cars in my first HPDE and it was pretty orderly but i was driving in my mirrors and getting rolled like crazy every single lap. but guys putting new cars on their roof first time out? i didn't see that coming. did that WRX roll on the outside of 3? i'm just thinking of a spot where the corner lends itself to going off and the ground is soft enough to flip a low car. Jake Wrote:Oh, and a brand-new-ish blue WRX managed to spin a bearing... but you Subaru people keep giving us Eurowhores shit for owning what we do. Really, keep it coming. its how we cope with our own stupidity and wearing our Monster hats too tight. HAY BRO ITS BEEN 20,000 MILES DID YOU REPLACE YOUR COOLING SYSTEM AGAIN YET HEYOOOO Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - Kaan - 04-22-2015 the car rolled between 9 and 10. apparently he went off on the outside of 9, cut across the track, then barrel rolled. I was going into 5 when the red flag came out... I didn't feel comfortable being at the bottom of 5 so I slowly pulled out of the way the black mustang with the big ol' wing in my group came blasting through 4 into 5 and parked it. I could hear the corner working yelling "STOP STOP STOP" over the raging V8. I'm pretty sure she was too horse to talk later that day. Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - Kaan - 04-22-2015 or both of you need to own a derp... 240k miles... I put in a radiator (thats how I got it cheap), clutch master, and some ricer bits... and beat on it. Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - Jake - 04-22-2015 Frankly, I think the whole HPDE 1 thing needs to be completely re-thought. Right now, we pair students and instructors based on type of car they both drive (good!). But, the student doesn't meet their instructor for the first time until student+car are sitting on grid and the instructor saunters over 7 minutes before the session begins (bad!). There needs to be some one-on-one time before that first session, where instructors could go over your past experience, any mods to the car, what you're expecting, what to realistically expect, and establish some ground rules. I wonder how many instructors throw out the fact that "I'm volunteering my time in your right seat, you WILL listen to me or we're pitting, is that clear or not?" before they go out with their student. The guy in the WRX had been out with us before in DE 1, and his instructor said he was doing very well in earlier sessions that day. But, he was there with two other friends and got a bit cocky through T8 or T9, whatever. Didn't listen to his instructor and put the car in tumble-dry mode. Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - SlimKlim - 04-22-2015 The mechanic buddy that helped me do the headgasket job on my car was hanging out at my house the other night idly shopping for CRX shells because someone he knows has a good drivetrain and he wants a cheap track/autox toy. If I hadn't just dropped many, many dollars I would seriously consider buying into something like that with him to have a dedicated shit box that'd take track abuse. Maybe we could do it this fall and get it sorted for next season, or if he ends up pulling the trigger on something I could buy a "seat" in it when I'm ready by financing some upgrades or something. Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - Kaan - 04-22-2015 My instructor this past weekend drove a BMW... are you calling my Derp a BMW? Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - rherold9 - 04-22-2015 Looks like I need to join in on a summit event this summer and see who has the slowest car in HPDE1 :? Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - Kaan - 04-22-2015 I'm the slowest in HPDE1. I'm not fast ![]() Feel free to join me at the June event Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - rherold9 - 04-22-2015 I'll try my best I have no idea how this internship is going to go  Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - *insertusernamehere* - 04-22-2015 Jake Wrote:There needs to be some one-on-one time before that first session, where instructors could go over your past experience, any mods to the car, what you're expecting, what to realistically expect, and establish some ground rules.Surprised this isn't standard. Classroom stuff sobers you up to the potential danger of track time, goes over the flags and when/where to pass, and covers the concepts of over/understeer to try to get you to think when you're in trouble instead of panicking.Jake Wrote:There needs to be some one-on-one time before that first session, where instructors could go over your past experience, any mods to the car, what you're expecting, what to realistically expect, and establish some ground rules.Surprised this isn't standard. I actually just typed up a more detailed response, but re-read Jake's second paragraph and realized it was almost exactly the same. Consider this an upvote. Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - navin - 04-22-2015 Instructor's don't usually meet with their students until HPDE 1's first session on track, in which they are doing the tech inspection on grid. Instructor group is one of the first groups that goes out on track I believe, so usually isn't much time to go track down a student and have a talk with them. Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - Kaan - 04-23-2015 I'll jump into my own thread off topic-ness... Dan Unk (RIP) and I didn't always see eye to eye. On more than one occasion I told him to “stay in the class room and not get in the middle of an impound” (or something like that). BUT I was fortunate enough to have attended plenty of his classes. Dan’s class vs. the current class are night and day. He emphasized safety first thing in the morning (Saturday and Sunday), prepped us with the basic techniques that would be later reinforced by our instructors (that we just met), and somehow we made it through at least one of this stories and all the slides. Last weekend we didn’t even get to flags by the time we got on track for the first time! There is a shift in the class room, the instructor pool is always changing, dynamics are different within the staff, and the cars that show up to HPDE1 are crazy fast. AND NASA Nationals is pushing more instructorless driving down the throats of the regions… NASA MA being the last to comply (Nor Cal has been doing instructors in HPDE1 ONLY since 2007!). Its going to take some time to adjust to the “new” standards for training. Each region has had to go through it (I don’t know how much they are sharing with each other outside of casual conversations) and its NASA MAs turn. I’m sure there will be some adjustments made after each event to get HPDEs smoothed out. I just personally feel it starts in the classroom. Prepare the minds of your drivers to learn. If they are truly prepared they can learn it from any instructor. I’ve never had an instructor with a FWD shitbox… And I don’t think I need one (other than my personal desire to learn a trick from every instructor I can). I told my instructor I was there to learn and that I wanted him to set some goals for me every time we went out, repeat them as needed (I'm hard headed), and lets see how I progress. He sprinkled in some stuff here and there, kept me aiming for the goals he set, and I think I did pretty well for my first time out in forever. Maybe my attitude was right, maybe I've been around it so long I know better than to go crazy, maybe my car (and me the driver) is just so damn slow it cant be dangerous... but I never felt out of control and I don't think I ever scared my instructor (even when I was steering with my right foot). Instructor group is one of the first groups that goes out on track I believe, so usually isn't much time to go track down a student and have a talk with them. I never did that. And that's a recipe for disaster.... it's the instructors fault for not going and finding your student in the paddock early. There's a number of ways around this. And, while the 500hp boost buggy on all seasons and stock brakes can get you in trouble really fast, most of the guys on track are there to learn, and once they get going the notions of OMG I'M GOING TO GO TOTALLY FAST AND FURRRYIOUS goes away and they're intimidated by everything. But, I stopped instructing when Unk was doing classroom, so perhaps thats changed. At most it would be go over the flags, and a quick curriculum of what we would be covering that session. I really could have used at least 15 minutes to talk with the student, go over experience, goals, prepare them for what to expect, what to start focusing on and allow me to evaluate their demeanor and personality. On the other side of the coin, while I was coming up through the HPDE ranks I had a couple instructors who werent the slightest bit interested in any of my background, goals or experience. Some even didnt do a single solitary thing other than pointing out where the racing line was. Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - Kaan - 05-06-2015 May 16th - Cut up the Integra Day Start Time: 10am What to Bring: Thirst, jokes, maybe gloves and safety goggles Everything should be in for the sunroof plug AND I still have half an interior in the car.... I have to swap pads, throw in gauges, tie up the split header wrap, etc. I might even wash it! I don't think anyone will show but if you want to, that's the day I KNOW i'll be working on the turd. Edit: if you are coming... bring some dry ice. no its not for the beer... :bootyshake: Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - V1GiLaNtE - 05-06-2015 Kaan Wrote:May 16th - Cut up the Integra Day Let me check my calendar... Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - Kaan - 05-07-2015 in the spirit of thinking too far ahead...
