Swear to god I just parked next to a 911 Turbo in the work garage with a baby seat in the back, someone's makin' it work.

If you get over your AWD fetish I don't see why a 328i wagon or Sportwagen wouldn't fit your needs perfectly and you could still have fun autocrossing it or hooning it through the mountains. Get a CX-5 or SUV if that's what tickles your pickle now, but it's far from the only valid option.

Challenge accepted.

Just give me 2 more years to not having a puke machine attached to my side.

not to digress too hard, but this is mostly a parent problem, not a car problem.

on a daily, non-vacation level, i just do not get how some parents think they need a 60 lb. double-decker stroller with in-flight dvd player, a pallet of diapers, and a 50-liter cooler full of milk and baby food to go any place that's more than 1 hour away from home. how our ancestors managed to live at all must be a complete mystery to them.

i get that some car seats now are the size of a minifridge but still, outside of having 3 kids you can get away fine with a nice midsize car as a primary vehicle. big trips can be ridiculous but that's what, twice a year maybe? just rent.

Why do you hate America?

are you sure? :bootyshake:

btw, CX-5 handles better than every wagon Ive driven and most compacts, looks better too.
How that gets you to "gave up on life" I dont have a clue.

At my daughter's preschool there are so many parents that on their first kid they went out and bought an enormous SUV or minivan.
When Grace was born we had a focus and a miata which was fine even with a big dog too. A year later I got the CX-5 and I feel like Im swimming in room.

Pretty much. We used to go to visit family with 2 kids and a dog in a mid-sized sedan :dunno:

It tows the toy car around, I haven't given up on shit.

The commentary was more directed toward the Prius crowd, mainly because I think there are better options out there for an enthusiast-with-kid. But maybe my tune will change when/if I have spawn of my own.

We had the Sentra and a Taurus (ooh!) and I seem to have grown up at least mostly-okay. The only thing I could see being an issue with something like a Focus hatch (and Evan, maybe your non-ST is better about this?) is that the child seat would smash into the back of the front seat. The ST's seats were way too thick for allowing child-duty in the back.

But back to Mikey and his lack of spawn but want for bike-hauler-mobile.

CX-5 sounds like a good choice, I still like the Renegade because fuck it, warranty for three years and sell it anyway, Ford Flex(?) because AWD+turbo+tune is the hotness and it looks like a hearse had a baby with an old station wagon.

fair enough. I guess you could call my daughter and dog hauling my 'toys' too Tongue
Focus was indeed a tight fit with a rear facing seat and 5'10" wife. Her knees were in the dashboard so we didnt do much long distance driving. Thats the biggest reason we got the CX-5 was for more backseat room. When the kids get old enough to flip the seat around it opens up more room.
I love love love the Flex. If I had a basketball team's worth of spawn that would be my family hauler but as is its too big for my needs. I applaud Ford for keeping it alive it for so long even though they barely sell any.

Re: 2009 Audi A4 Avant - JustinG - 08-17-2015

Really like the Flex too, was pushing my parents towards one. But then I saw the Est MPG, and with my parents living where they do (60 miles from everything), it just wouldn't work.

17 and 23 for AWD? How??? Their 12 yr old 200k mile Envoy with an I6 gets that. Our V8 SAABlazer did 1 MPG less.

The F150 with the same 3.5L Ecoboost gets 1 MPG more in the city?

I know, "the Prius owner focusing on MPG", but really? Jakes 6.0L Denali probably gets that MPG.

I was surprised they didn't get more.

My vote is still CX5.

Is that better?

You guys like the ford flex? What the fuck is wrong with all of you? I thought I had seen it all...

Yeah dude. Throw it on some big donk-ish chrome wheels, give it a white roof and some candy-metallic paint... lower it an inch, add a tune/intake/exhaust and you have a most excellent road-tripper/kid hauler/AWD boostmonster.

Also, LOL Justin... my Denali struggles for 17-18 mpg highway with nothing attached to the back of it. Try 13 as an average around town/commuting.

Full thread derail...but Jake, really? I don't know how you can like a stock one let a lone a modified one. Of the approximately 3 Ford Flex(es)? I have ever seen in person I can't imagine ever going to a dealer and saying I want "that".

Re: 2009 Audi A4 Avant - Jake - 08-17-2015

I mean, it can't tow for shit so it's useless for my needs. But if my choices were a Grand Caravan, Sienna, Odyssey or ^ that, I'd ask where the paperwork was. Not with those wheels though, they're horrid.

Re: 2009 Audi A4 Avant - Apoc - 08-17-2015

I secretly list for the Flex too. So there.

*silently raises hand*

A ShoFlex would be a bitchin' daddy wagon if you had to have a 3rd row.

Re: 2009 Audi A4 Avant - JustinG - 08-17-2015

New Suburban is out you should just snag one.

Count me in too. It looks unique, hauls tons of shit if you need that sort of thing, and has a fuckin' TWIN TURBO V6. I bet with a tune/exhaust it runs 12's.
