Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 09-24-2014 Scraped today going out of the baseball parking lot because of the damn "v" water drains. Going to have to start using the ricer angle. Lol. This will be a fun time lowering and finishing the lips off.... People may not think I've lowered this thing much but I could fit both fists in the fender before now I'm one finger all around trying to get the fender right above the tire... So maybe half an inch. Going to stiffen up the coils basically all the way. I feel like I'm going destroy this front lip so easily. At this point I've retired the car to something that will look decent and sometimes can have fun driving it until I get a real play car after college. Yes, Kaan. I'd get stuck on the way to your place haha  Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 10-21-2014 I guess I'll update the the thread. Well I lowered the car another inch so now I'm sitting like 3 inches lower than stock. Eventually will have better pictures. I've so far scraped several times in Hburg but oh well. I'm learning slowly : ![]() Ran my car through Auto-x after lowering it. Destroyed my lip but won my class. It was my 3rd time at Auto-x and now I have 2 wins. Thing is too low to properly auto-x at this point but said screw it and went for it. Lifting the rear tire on one of the pictures: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Jake - 10-22-2014 Congrats on the win! You may find the car is too low for autocross at the Verona lot but not elsewhere. I do think you're flirting with disaster with the height + lip, but the Verona lot is SO bumpy with SO many surface transitions that it just exaggerates this sort of stuff. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 10-22-2014 Thank you. And yes Verona is crazy bumpy if I can find a better place that was somewhat close that would be great. I think I'll be good. I really want to keep autocrossing because I know I'm too low for proper suspension travel on the track now. I'm just worried about the highway not normal driving in Harrisonburg if I'm careful. I love the way the car sits right now though. Oh and pay attention to roadkill on the highway. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - SlimKlim - 10-22-2014 What always tore me up in hburg was how practically every driveway has little concrete culvert running across it. Depends how soft your suspension is for how much you need to worry about rubbing on the highway. Back in the day on tires I had more of an issue fitting, it wasn't the sharp little bumps that would get me, it was the big, smooth dips before or after a bridge that I wouldn't see, fly through at 80, and all the weight of the car would shove the rear tires into the bumper. The yokos I had on the 17x9s were particularly bad, and that was back on race springs that had less travel. Alternatively, my buddy had a slammed-ish and poked MKIV that was on brutally stiff suspension and it didn't rub. Rode like shit, but no rubbing. Ask DJ about our morning commute in my car on 66... effin' fat tires on the 128 are all sorts of rub-a-dub-dub. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 10-22-2014 I'm not worried about rubbing. I'm worried about smacking the lip from bigger bumps on the highway. I'm full stiff rear and 3/4 front. I haven't scraped for a few days now so either I'm getting used to driving and not driving places I know I'll have an issue with or I'm not driving in worse enough areas yet Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Senor_Taylor - 10-22-2014 Let me know if you want to buy my lift shocks, Ryan ![]() Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - JustinG - 10-22-2014 Yea in the dsm i had to watch everything. Hatchpile, no fucks given. The Forester, no matter how much I want to do coilovers and slam it, it is just too much of a pain in the ass for a DD. So function for the win, but you are young, fuck functional I like how it looks as it sits. You can be functional later or when/if you decide to make your car more competitive in autox or hpde often. Its just a little too low on a not so great coilover Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - JPolen01 - 10-23-2014 I had 205s on an 8.5 and you would have thought I had killed a small child by the reactions from you old grumps. Naw we just don't like you  Just kidding. Ryan is out autocrossing so no hate from me. Hopefully he keeps pushing, and small successes early on help the ego/boost morale to keep on competing. Ryan, if you need any support you let me know. Your local SCCA autocross is just the first step. You mention wanting to try new courses, well Fedex lot in DC region is a decent lot and has GOOD competition. I have a guest bedroom that you are more than welcome to stay at if you want to come up and do one. If you coordinate right, I can also go to one and introduce you to the WDCR folks that are on top of their game. That Silver/Gray Sti is David Wampler's car that he occasionally gets out in but mostly drives Martin Kriz's STi which is Wampler's car to the 11/10ths degree (I know you like 10ths  ). I remember driving that car years and years ago, and we were going to do a Nationals STU co-drive together but he found Martin Kriz and I found Mike Lane. Also, I know you are still new, but a National "Shootout" or "ProSolo" is good fun. It's pricier than a regular autox, but worth every penny. (and if you do well enough you earn money, I earned $400 and something bucks at the one shootout I went to). Keep it going bud! Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - navin - 10-23-2014 SRS BZNESS Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - JustinG - 10-23-2014 JPolen01 Wrote:I had 205s on an 8.5 and you would have thought I had killed a small child by the reactions from you old grumps.205 on 8.5 is no better than 195 on an 8. Atleast Ryan has 245s, granted I think 9s and 245s are a bit excessive for this car, but they aren't skinny tires on fat wheels so I will let it slide. Oh and yea....what DJ said. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 10-23-2014 Justin, I appreciate the kind words haha. Nah 245's on a 9 aren't that ridiculous on a 3. You should see I guy I know in Maryland running 285's on a 10... (<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://mazda3revolution.com/forums/m3r-rides-meets-pics/15326-color0s-build-thread-skyactiv3.html">http://mazda3revolution.com/forums/m3r- ... ctiv3.html</a><!-- m -->) Can you say overbuilt? I am running like probably just under -4 degrees in the rear because I have to. DJ, I think Auto-x is where this car shine's unless I go full retard on a build this car will be hard to be a decent track car. I want to step down to a 7.5 and 225 so I can compete in STF because that's where it gets fun, will be very competitive, and I think is a prefect place for this car. But, I love the set up I have now and the way it looks. I don't think it is too low for Auto-x as long as the course isn't terrible I just need a bit better suspension set up. I appreciate the offer I just don't think it is worth it if I'm still in FSP right now. I'll get killed I think. Unless I can somehow mod my car to fit FSP than maybe. Also, money is an issue. I mean I'll think about it for sure. I guess you need seat time regardless and to learn even if you are getting destroyed. I am running like probably just under -4 degrees in the rear because I have to. I am not suggesting road racing for that car, maybe HPDEs if you are up to it, but in college/a couple years post college, autox is a lot cheaper. Pro Solos and Shootouts are just autocrosses that have some twists (and level of competition is higher). I am just suggesting on coming up and talking to some guys who have experience. I read the first 3 pages of that thread and it made my head hurt, and yes, that guy has gone FULL retard with 285s and 10in wheels, he needs an intervention. Hope he doesn't kill anyone on his 4 wheel dorifto canyon runs. I'm too low now for sure for decent HPDE's but they cost too much haha. Also, significantly under-powered. But, auto-x is way cheaper, easier, and I'd like to continue driving in it auto-x it's just I can't in Verona. Not fixing my lip everytime. My confidence will be murdered if I have actual competition in FSP haha. Be interesting to see what they say though and they could run with me and say how much my driving sucks .
