But a cool semi related thing to make up for it, press cntl-alt-/ and a nice screen comes up to show you all shortcuts.

Amazing

I stopped in to an Office Max today and they one had one chromebook on display - the budget Samsung 3. Retail is dead.

I am using up 2/3 of my $600 newegg credit from my TV purchase on something for the house, so I just went ahead and bought the ASUS C302 with the remaining credit plus cash. It should be here around the end of the week. Big Grin

I think 65 would just be abnoxiously big. The 55 gives me 10 more inches of screen than what I currently have.

When viewing in store I thought the LGs had the best picture when comparing LG OLED and Samsung QLED.

BOOM.

Yes, I paid someone to do it because 1) it's me, and 2) that's our general contractor and he is even more of a perfectionist than I am (see laser level). I'll hide the cords after we fine tune the position of the TV.

All that plastic and a drop cloth to hang a TV? That dude must be pretty anal.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 07-03-2017

...and he vacuums before he leaves.

In fairness though, he also used a cutoff wheel to hack off curtain brackets the previous owner has plastered into the walls.

I got the Asus last night and have spent about an hour playing around with it. It's definitely bigger than my Samsung tablet, and I initially thought I'd made a mistake, but it's actually the right size for portability around the house. I like the convertible nature (I'm typing this on the keyboard), but I do find it nearly impossible to hit the close tab button in chrome with the touchscreen. Chrome OS definitely takes a bit getting used to, but it's pretty shallow on options so there aren't a million things to re-learn. The only use case I haven't tried is copying downloaded videos onto the local drive to watch on airplanes. I've got 48 gigs free, so I don't think I'll even need to use the SD slot.

I think the one thing I'd like to do that I can't is update Quicken. I'm old school and record every transaction in the desktop product, so I can track where our money is going. It's installed on my Alienware and I can still use that, but I'd like the option of popping open my Asus and balancing my checking account in a few minutes (yes, I still balance it every month). It's not a deal breaker by any means.

So far, I'm happy with the purchase and can see saving my tablet for when my kid is old enough to use one.

Maybe Quickbooks online for $7/mo or something cheaper/freeer I don't know about?

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - HAULN-SS - 07-09-2017

Robot vacuums been covered? New house has no carpet anywhere, and it is amazing to me how much small debris collects on the hardwood floors. If you dont vacuum super often, its like every time you walk somewhere some little gravel or crumb or something sticks to your bare feet. Add on top of that a dog, and the dust/hair piles up on the corners super quick.

I didn't realize until I looked on amazon there are a lot of generic "roomba" style vacuums now under $200 anyone tried one, or have a recommendation?

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 07-09-2017

Got the Costco Roomba, with their warranty and the added towers it was a deal at $350 when it popped up on sale.

With dark hardwoods and a light colored mut it has saved our sanity and an hour or 2 sweeping/vacuuming every week.

Google dog shit Roomba

.... my dog has had a single accident in the house in 5 years.

I'm still not taking that chance.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 07-09-2017

We only run our roomba when we're at home. Solves all those types of problems.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - WRXtranceformed - 07-09-2017

Wifey is our Roomba, she likes cleaningSmile

Does she make bzzts and boops while she vacuums though? And can you set her up to do it at the same time every day?

Set it to run when you're home. Problem solved.

Chromebook R11 is $219 on Amazon today

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 07-11-2017

So I have come to the realization that I don't have Derecola money, and the more I think about it the more I just don't want to spend OLED money.

Everyone is trying to beat the other guy today due to Prime Day, and I can snag this from Costco.

https://m.costco.com/Samsung-65%22-Class-(64.5%22-Diag.)-4K-Ultra-HD-LED-LCD-TV.product.100350542.html

15% back when using my Costco Citi card, and another 2% back cause Costco Purchase. Bringing it to $1350 pre tax.

Better options or recommendations?

Costco also has the 45in 5.1 Vizio Soundbar for $250 through 7/16.

I mean I'm sure that's good but TVs are getting just so stupid cheap now. I feel like unless you're a huge videophile you can find big ass TVs that are new but a year or so old for like less than half of that. I walk through Best Buy or Walmart or browse Amazon every now and then and I am staggered at how inexpensive a good, big TV is now

Basically nothing I own outside of I guess Youtube on my laptop, including my Playstation, plays 4k content. I've had this 1080p LED 3d LG now for like almost 4 years and it is still stunning when I am gaming or watching movies on it.

So yeah IMO TVs are weird, they're one of those things where you can get 100% of the TV you would actually need for not much money, or you can go super baller and spend $$$$$$ for the cutting edge stuff that's going to end up being cheap again in a few years

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 07-11-2017

Per CNET the Vizio M series 65 is best bang for buck. It is $1k.

AFAIK I should get 4k and HDR right?

I hate shopping for TVs.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Sully - 07-11-2017

Yea m series has 4k and both HDR formats. But....only one HDMI port that can handle 4k. P series, all but one HDMI port does 4k HDR. But yea CNET says m is best bang for buck but p is a better screen if you want to spring for it. They are advertising some new xled screnn but idk what it means.

I'm still thinking of just going Vizio when it's time. If it sucks, then I guess I'll put it in the bedroom and spring for a Samsung or LG down the road

Edit:
As far as I know, they did away with those tablet remotes too for this year

Yes you should and at least 120Hz native refresh rate (so 240 "true motion" or whatever BS the manufacturer states.)

The Samsung one is a good deal too though. My friend just purchased the 6500 series and it's super nice and another friend has the 9000 and that's REALLY nice. You'll do well with the one you listed before.
