If you wanna earn some Strange Coins you can do the Sepiks Prime Strike on heroic to get 3 of them. I'd like to earn a few coins myself but I might wait until next week to spend em.

Mike Wrote:anyone else hit 20 yet?

at least before it, the grind felt like it was heading somewhere. now? uhhh... i could spend a zillion hours just getting the materials (in essence, that's all everything is) for a single item. that's a lot of time just holding the fire button on these brainless hit-point bags they call bosses.

slightly disappointed. i knew this is what i was getting into, but the reality of it is crappier than i expected.

I'm kinda coming to the same conclusion. I've played in fireteams with friends, but haven't really felt the need for coordination. It seems like a lot of running around and shooting things with the hope of endlessly and unnecessarily upgrading your character. It's still fun to kill shit, but I'm not really a character building kinda guy so a lot of the nerdgasm stuff doesn't resonate with me. That said, it still brings a much needed refresh to my gaming lineup.

That feeling when you dismantle a gun you meant to equip.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - Mike - 09-14-2014

definitely needs a 15 second undo.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - Mike - 09-14-2014

about 2 light points from 22. this game is typical mmo crack Tongue need to get enough strange coins for next weekend! one thing i do miss about mmo is the feeling of community. they need to do something about that for this to last IMO. seeing a random 20 people at the tower doesn't cut it.

y'all spend much time on pvp? pretty terrible. the powers are too op (if you've got one and you're not terrible, the other team is pretty much f'd) and pugs are a sure loss because teamwork is so important.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - G.Irish - 09-14-2014

Lee, a coworker and I did the Heroic Strike this today (we were level 21, 22, and 22). That shit was ridiculously hard, you really can't do complete it without communicating. It also brought home how important putting together a good team and proper prep for the Raid will be.

Having Lee's Titan with the defensive shield super was critical to beating it, while having weapons that do the right type of damage is a big help. While you're earning and upgrading your weapons make sure you keep a high level special weapon of each damage type (void, solar, arc), and do the same for heavy weapons. The color of the shields of the enemy will tell you what type of damage they're most vulnerable to.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - Apoc - 09-15-2014

You mean I'm not supposed to dismantle everything??

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - G.Irish - 09-15-2014

Keep a powerful version of each type in your special slot, and heavy slot. You can dismantle whatever you don't find useful. I wouldn't keep stuff from lower levels since it won't be of any use on the hard Strikes anyway.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - G.Irish - 09-15-2014

So here's a way you can get 3 strange coins a day relatively easily (at least more easily than doing a Heroic Strike):
 • Create a character for each of your slots(3)
 • Hang out in the areas for public events. Here's a public event schedule: http://www.destinypedia.com/Public_Event
 • The first Gold you get in a public event every day gives you a strange coin
 • Do the same thing with all three characters and you'll have 3 coins
 • You can put the coins in your vault so you can transfer them to your primary character

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - Sully - 09-15-2014

There is just way too much information here for me and I don't have a new Gen console so it doesn't matter anyway. Although this game sounds far too complex for me to play, it sounds like it would be super fun to watch a group of friends on a "fire team" fighting stuff or whatever you do in this game.

But this is also coming from a guy who thinks halo would have been a better game if the whole thing was cut scenes and you just watched it like a movie.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - G.Irish - 09-15-2014

It's out on current gen consoles too if you wanna try it.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - Sully - 09-15-2014

Sounds fun with friends. I don't really have any that game. I always got sick of online multilayer because you couldn't communicate or work together cause the teams were always a bunch of pros who did their own thing or noobs like me who just ran around.

I always wished I had more gamer friends I could coordinate with and do cool stuff and tactics. Ehh, oh well. I'll just keep dreaming and waiting for the halo live action movie to come out

This seems like way too much work. I just want to kill things and occasionally get cool guns. Maybe I don't get it? (This is my first MMO.)

You can do that too. If you want the best stuff in the game you have to coordinate with other people. That's kind of the MO of MMOs. You can run Strikes with randoms or do crucible events and get stuff that will be fine but if you want to beat the high level events you need to be well geared, leveled up and coordinated. That's what we (Negative Ghostrider clan  ) are working on doing right now.

You will get random Legendary equipment just sessioning the strikes / crucible but they are a lot more rare and sporadic. I randomly got a legendary rocket launcher from a strike event, Matt (MLeech) got a sick legendary chest piece off of a yellow mob. The "raid level gear", 26+ is only available from those events

That's just a way to maximize what you can earn. The easy version of that would be just to use the schedule to find one public event a day, get a gold score on it, and you should get a rare item. I thought it always gave Strange Coins but yesterday it gave me an Ascendant Shard (which can be used to upgrade Legendary and better weapons). Get enough coins (at least 13), buy exotic armor on Friday.

Once you're at level 20 you can earn Legendary stuff by 4 methods. If you prefer to play mostly PvE, just keep doing that (strikes, missions, and bounties) and you'll earn Vanguard reputation and marks. You can use the marks to buy Legendary Vanguard stuff once you get to Vanguard Rep level 2.

If you do mostly Crucible, just keep doing Crucible matches and bounties to earn Crucible rank and marks.

If you do a good mix of both but more Crucible, buy a faction class item and start wearing it. Any reputation you gain in PvE or PvP will go towards your faction reputation. You need Crucible marks to buy stuff.

The last method is to simply keep playing whatever mode you like, and see if you get a legendary item to drop from whatever activity you're doing.

Also, check out this tool to preview what a shader will look like on your character

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - Apoc - 09-16-2014

I got to 20 last night and I can't say I care to go any farther. If it happens, cool, but I won't seek it out. I also really suck at Crucible (now) and know I'll never catch up, so I can just play non-Crucible to shoot things that won't kill me 4/5 times.

I think the only thing that's going to keep me engaged is *new* missions with friends. If it's the same stuff over and over again, which it is at this point, it'll get old fast.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - G.Irish - 09-16-2014

With the Crucible you've gotta play it a little more like CoD than Halo. Gotta be careful about when you're running around, and the best time to shoot someone is when they're not looking. Also have to focus on headshots even before their shields are down.

Crouching makes you invisible to radar for about 3 seconds, then you'll show up as a blip, then disappear for a few more seconds. Use that to your advantage to hit people with the shotgun.

Also learn where the heavy weapons ammo spawns. In most matches people don't even bother to come get it. If you get over there when you hear the announcement that it's incoming and get some rockets, that's an easy 2 or 3 kills there, more if you're good with the heavy machine gun.

The good news is I know of at least one way to get that shader. The bad news is that the way to get it, is to complete the raid that those guys died 1600 times over 11 hours trying to beat.
