RE: Official MM Firearms Thread - Goodspeed - 03-02-2019 (03-01-2019, 10:00 AM)GTBrandon Wrote: Let me know if any of you want to go out and shoot, I have lots to learn! If you're ever going for a range trip in NoVa, give me a shout. Best advice I can give you: before any gear/accessories purchase, & before you burn through ammo & lane rental fees practicing by yourself - take a class with a qualified instructor. You'll save a lot of time and money getting the basics down quickly (sight picture/alignment, grip, trigger control, stance, etc.) instead of spinning your wheels. Ex: here's a solid instructor I've taken several classes with who covers all of the above well, and also goes into mindset and the law of using deadly force if you ever need to defend yourself with your pistol (very important to know this stuff). I can point you towards several others I've had great experiences with. https://www.justifieddefensiveconcepts.com/defensive-pistol-skills-i Once you get comfortable with these early stages, you can grow further into other topics including "shooter first aid" and others. Ignore 95% of the gear and weapon accessories out there for now & just focus on learning. RE: Official MM Firearms Thread - Ryan T - 03-03-2019 ^^Agree with Goodspeed 100%. Good training is a must and if you get the training before you have time to develop any bad habits, you will be a much better shooter for it. I went to FLETC considering myself a pretty decent shooter and was introducted to my instructor, who was a 25 year border patrol veteran and 20 year firearm instructor, who within a couple days changed just a few things and improved my shooting dramatically. Small things you never even think of, from hand placement, to weight forward balance, to foot placement and hip direction, all take a huge toll on how accurate you are. Also, find a gun you are comfortable with and train train train with that gun. There are lots of guns I’d love to try and carry, but I’ve put so much time and energy into carrying a Glock that I’m not comfortable with much else for day to day carry. You will be introduced to the idea that “Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.” Believe it. If you can perform any draw stroke smoothly and consistently and operate the firearm smoothly and bring the sights to you, you will be a better shooter. Repetition makes habit and habit makes consistency. It doesn’t take a lot of time to become a good single target, single standing point target shooter. Learning how to move your eyes and then your gun is what takes so much time. Eyes, Muzzle, Threat. Remember that and live by it. Move your eyes first, then your gun. And if you are going to go to a controlled range, may as well memorize the first 4 rules of range safety, because any decent instructor will make you recite them: 1. Treat all firearms as if they are loaded 2. Never point your muzzle at anything you aren’t willing to shoot or destroy 3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot 4. Know your target and beyond. RE: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 03-04-2019 At the very least, if it's available in your state, I recommend getting your concealed weapons permit. NC and SC have both safety and legal aspects to the all-day classes you have to take. Proper shooting technique and safety is super important but honestly understanding the deadly force and castle laws of your state are just as important. It's not hard to kill someone if you have to, but dealing with the consequences afterward (both legal and emotional) are something you need to be aware of and prepared for. IE you don't want to be the one "defending" yourself or someone else, only to find out that you'll end up on the wrong side of the prison bars or lawyering up for a large civil suit (the latter is likely in many states almost no matter what). Official MM Firearms Thread - JustinG - 03-26-2019 Figured since its kydex, it fits here. Been wanting a tray to throw my shit in at the end of the day. Been eyeballing some custom kydex trays made by a chick down in Williamsburg, "Eclipse Holsters". https://eclipseholsters.com/ All sorts of color combinations, and the center can be screen printed with any design. Given my night stand is white, and we have grey stuff in our room, I went with white and grey "cf" pattern. Highly recommend these, just added some felt to the bottom to prevent scratching up the top of the table. Now my shits not all over the place.
RE: Official MM Firearms Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 03-27-2019 Damn. Now that is sexy. RE: Official MM Firearms Thread - JustinG - 03-27-2019 (03-27-2019, 07:49 AM)V1GiLaNtE Wrote: Damn. RE: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 04-02-2019 I'll have a new child before I have this in my safe but the deal was too good to pass up: ![]() It was definitely cleaned more than it was shot, and I don't really understand why you'd remove the swing swivel and then...mysteriously...add another one. But hey, whatever, bore is sharp, everything works, and now I have (or will) an SBR without any goofy trust engraving... RE: Official MM Firearms Thread - JustinG - 09-10-2019 Anyone wanna take my FNP 9 off my hands? It's just sitting around, not being used as god intended. RE: Official MM Firearms Thread - Ryan T - 09-10-2019 You not CCW'ing anymore? RE: Official MM Firearms Thread - HAULN-SS - 11-19-2019 Cool cool.. https://lis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/legp604.exe?201+ful+SB16+pdf&fbclid=IwAR3CkeWul-EUbhVFI9-V1tpD0_bsYix3ct8IcT60SXRgLFqR1usyFxWk6l4 RE: Official MM Firearms Thread - Deceus - 11-20-2019 Oh boy, finally someone trying to save us from collapsing stocks and pistol grips. Good thing they threw grenade launchers in there for good measure too. To be fair, I guess there really isn't a definition of an "assault" weapon that doesn't sound stupid. You know if they were just going after a magazine limit of 10 they'd probably get some form of traction but instead they gotta do this shit. RE: Official MM Firearms Thread - Kaan - 11-21-2019 for all those that said "they aren't coming for your guns... stop being paranoid" (and you know who you are)... the current legislative definition basically bans all my guns with the exception of my over under, my smallest glock (there is some debate on this), and 22LR plinkers (all the magazines would be banned). You're just paranoid, Kaan. Nobody is going to make you a felon for some stuff you've owned for 20 fucking years. You're a crazy ammosexual, Kaan! You're right to own a fully semiautomatic assault cannon doesn't DRUMPF my right to feel safe! Why do you hate children of color, Kaan? Kaan what do you NEED that stuff for anyway? Don't you know that if you HAVE A GUN it's 99% chance it'll be used ON YOU. What well regulated militia do you belong to anyways, and don't say the one outlined in the code of Virginia as every able bodied person from 18 to 50, those are subject to REGULATIONS like banning your evil assault rocket AR47 launcher. But prayers for hong Kong I wish there was something those poor dears could do why can't they just listen to china RE: Official MM Firearms Thread - Kaan - 11-21-2019 Sic Semper Tyrannis ... our delegates in Richmond walk past this on the Virginia seal every day and ignore it... RE: Official MM Firearms Thread - Apoc - 11-21-2019 To be fair, RJ said something to the effect of come to the table or lose big and Rex refused to negotiate his rights away. So, he wasn't wrong. Put it on my tombstone, I guess. RE: Official MM Firearms Thread - Ryan T - 11-26-2019 So I’ve always wanted an AK-47. I’ve owned a couple SKS’s (still own a paratrooper with Tapco setup) and I’ve owned a few AR-15s. (Still have two, a rifle and a pistol), but no AKs. So I went in the local gun store to toss them a few holsters I have no need for that they could sell and got to browsing around. They had a few AKs and this black Polish Circle 11 from Atlantic Firearms caught my eye; Ran smooth, good reviews, and for $415 it was hard to say no. So I bit the bullet (heh) and bought it. I guess I have the trifecta of guns to ban, so I’m content with the world now. I doubt I’ll shoot it much, but I’ll feel happy that it is sleeping in one of my safes.
