Wow. I really hope that is true.

Wow. I really hope that is true.
Right now simple bolt ons and 93 tune they are in 170-180whp range.

I can imagine close to 200 wheel if they re work the head as stated. I will definitely be selling the NC...

RE: Automotive News Discussion - RawrImAMonster - 03-02-2018

TIL a 2018 Miata only has 155 hp. I just assumed they were about 200 like every other modern 2.0 n/a 4 cylinder.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - JustinG - 03-02-2018

Yea, but it's also 3-600lbs lighter than most of it's competition. So the power/weight isnt that far off.

But yea, 155 out of a modern 2.0 is pretty comical, they have to be holding back.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - rherold9 - 03-02-2018

Where you are getting every modern 2.0 has 200hp at? The prius-tire triplets? That's about the only modern car(s) that has that much out of a 2.0

Off the top of my head the BRZ comes to mind. 2.0 w/ 200hp.

The Si has a 1.5L turbo producing 205hp and the GTI is a 2.0L turbo producing 220hp. Not apples to apples exactly, but Mazda should be able to do more with their 2.0 in 2018.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - RawrImAMonster - 03-02-2018

Well mid 2000's civic si had a 2.0 with 200hp. I know they've since bumped up the displacement, but I just think of that as the benchmark for a modern performance 2.0 4 cylinder along with the brz/frs.

If honda can do it 10 years ago, mazda should be able to now.

Power tailgate Tongue

You see the whole video on the tailgate?  Integrated step, seat, work station, fold in...power...  I LOVE IT.   I am climbing in and out of my bed constantly (I actually use my truck for truck stuff  Tongue) and sometimes wish for that bed extension even with my long bed.

My first impression is that the Sierra is hideous though.  The current F150 is soooo much cleaner..

RE: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 03-02-2018

The 260 way power folding lifting tailgate is actually really cool. The fact that Ford added the step/rail but couldn't come up with the rest of the taigate that GM did is laughable.

Totally different engine's and Honda is about the only major manufacture to push good power out of N/A 4 cylinder car engines. But, sure if we want to argue if Mazda wanted to make 200hp out of a N/A engine they could but I wouldn't act like it's some common thing or practice on 2.0's lol

RE: Automotive News Discussion - RawrImAMonster - 03-02-2018

Yeah I get that they're different engines, but Honda's motor literally came out over 10 years ago and didn't have a lot of modern technologies like direct injection.

Now that I'm thinking about it, a k20 in a miata would probably actually be pretty fun.

Automotive News Discussion - JustinG - 03-02-2018

I can't wait to see the amount of stupid remarks from "Real men" who made fun of Ford's step. This tailgate will give em an aneruysm.

I did, it's really clever.  I was definitely seeing all kinds of butthurt about it on social media posts from Ford fanbois, saying it's going to rust out, etc.  I think it's a really cool innovation though.

But did you notice the option for a carbon fiber composite box?!?  That was super interesting to me.  I don't know realistically how that would compare to steel in terms of heavy loads dropping on it but the weight savings is going to be obvious.  They said this Sierra was already going to be significantly lighter than the last one even without the carbon box due to more aluminum bodywork (hood etc)

I am definitely not completely sold on the front end but I don't think it looks terrible.  I'm just kind of hoping that they don't carry those headlight design cues over into the next generation of Canyon

The 10 speed 6.2L V8 option is also pretty crazy. Is 8 not enough anymore?

RE: Automotive News Discussion - rherold9 - 03-02-2018

For just one low payment if $90k you can get a GMC 2500HD with Carbon Fiber box and all the features you'll never need.

That is just marketing bullshit. Who is actually dropping insanely heavy items into the bed of their truck? I've never seen someone literally launch a toolbox into the bed of their truck, either because they care about their tools and/or their truck.

K20/K24 motor swaps are a real thing with miatas these days, and the results are pretty amazing.  its not a simple swap but its doable and worth the money if you're chasing lap times.

blame awesome turbo tech and DI for the death of N/A power.  and they also aren't as emissions friendly compared to the engine architecture of a turbo car.

the only modern 2.0 N/A in the US market that i can think of that touches the 100hp/l mark outside of the 86 twins is the now-dead 1.3L Renesis, but good luck keeping one alive.  if you go back to the early 00's there was a ton of cool stuff that got close from 1.8 to 2.0 sizes from Subaru, Toyota, Honda and even Ford.

Let me get this straight.   Your hauling enough big heavy shit that you need a full size truck,  but you cant be bothered to pull a handle and lower the tailgate yourself?   For fucks sake, this is getting out of control.

My Titan has gas pistons in the tailgate that let you pull the handle and just let it drop.  I thought *that* was luxurious and unnecessary.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - .RJ - 03-02-2018

spend more time around contractors, then.  but they DGAF about their trucks.

Automotive News Discussion - Senor_Taylor - 03-02-2018

The only people who see a problem with 150hp in a Miata are people who never owned one. A high horsepower Miata is no longer a Miata. I think 180 would he fine, but if you want a factory 200+ hp Miata, buy something else.
