We have no state income tax, so it works out... as long as retailers don't charge tax. Newegg is my best friend for big ticket purchases. Either that or I ship it to Mikey and then have him ship it to me. (No sales tax in OR.)

Yeah except can you see pics of the exact unit you are getting before you buy it?

They do a good job of detailing the condition, plus, it's Amazon. Don't like it, send it back. I've purchased a bunch of electronics from there with no issues and huge discounts.

This Galaxy S8 is gangster af by the way

The last few generations of Galaxies have been really good, this one stepped it up. Battery life is SIGNIFICANTLY better than my S7, screen is incredible in terms of clarity and size. I like how they got rid of the physical home button to open up space for the screen. A+ would recommend

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 04-27-2017

I fondled the S8+, and yea it looked nice, but the tall skinny screen just didn't do it for me. I wasn't a fan of the aspect ratio.
Bixby wasn't Google assistant, and not being able to reprogram that button seemed like a waste.
When trying to do the fingerprint scanner I kept just swiping my finger on the camera.

I dunno, I have just jumped off the Samsung train for now

My Pixel XL should arrive next week Smile

I just cracked my 2nd galaxy s7 screen, with no idea how. It was in my gym bag, which was stationary. Good when it went in, cracked when it came out. I'm about over fucking with galaxy phones. They seem fragile AF. Why are the front and back both glass?? And for the record, cell phone repair place in the mall says its $300 to replace to glass and display, since they are bonded.

My S7 Edge was fragile and was (I think) a lemon, as the battery life never measured up - not even close - to what my friends' S7E's got. I replaced it with an S7 Active and really have been liking the hardware. It's been inadvertently thrown across the floors of bars, dropped from chest height in my bathroom (bounced on edge of faux granite counter, smacked tile floor), and otherwise roughhoused a bit, and has one little nick in the metal frame. That's it.

I still think I want a Pixel or whatever equivalent next, assuming I stick with Android. It's garbage that Nougat came out and I had to wait like 3 months to get it, because AT&T and Samsung both had to apply their fuckery to the OS. When Apple announces a new point release of iOS, everyone gets it a few days later and that's that.

Still not sure if Android or iOS is the better platform for me, but the update thing really is bothersome.

I think you'll find "Vanilla" Android to be more appealing and comparable to iOS. I was all about Samsung until this Pixel.

The first issue of software I have had since November happened today. It was with Google services for Google search widget. A quick restart fixed it. Other than that zero issues *knock on wood

Disclaimer: I don't do anything on this phone except basic tasks of browsing the internets, texting, and other simple things.

I never had an issue with breaking the screens on any of my Galaxies and I put them all through a lot of travel, abuse and drops, although my wife broke the screen and board underneath of it when she dropped her Note 5 on our front step without a case on. I have a feeling some Lurch probably dropped a weight or stepped on your bag right on the screen or something.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Sully - 04-28-2017

I broke the back the first week I had my s7 but my case was in the mail arriving that day and I set it on the roof of my car to get my keys out. And it fell so my fault. And then more recently, I replaced the back with an eBay one and even in a light duty case, it somehow cracked in my pocket but I don't blame Samsung because I bought a $15 back for that one. My front screen has held up fine after numerous drops and smashing kegs into it at work.

I would probably try a pixel but I'm really hung up on wireless charging. More so because I don't understand why it doesn't have it.

The Google widget has been seriously glitchy lately require a force stop and restart almost daily for me. Not sure why but I wouldn't say it's a problem with"your" phone Ryan.

Just noticed I have Google assistant on my phone now. Just set it up and curious to see how useful I find it. Does anyone know if it's a toned down version of what's available on the pixel or the exact same? If it's the same then I imagine you could use it instead of bixby and it would be really the only edge the pixel has over the S phones

The biggest edge the Pixel has over the S phones is that it doesn't have Samsung's touchwiz garbage installed over top of it.

Wireless charging or GTFO

Straight up, I would've probably switched back to iOS if I had to use Touchwiz(Samsung) Android. Stock Android is smooth, clean, and works pretty damned well. I have a few minor functionality quibbles (I accidentally turn my phone off or mute it sometimes) but overall I'm very happy with the Nexus/Pixel experience.

Pixel 2 is supposed to be released towards the end of the year. Buy direct from Google even if you have to wait for a month. The BS carriers load to their phones is absolute shit. Plus you have to wait on updates approved by the carrier.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 04-28-2017

I don't really get the touchwiz hate. It used to be crap, but I have both an S8 and 5x and prefer the S8 experience. I'm not ready to do a full review of the galaxy, but I haven't seen anything in my time with a Nexus that would make me want to switch. That's especially true since you can delete or disable nearly all samsung/carrier installed apps these days.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 04-28-2017

Just received my Pixel XL. Seems faster than my 6p, oh and the fact that my battery is still at 73% plus I can make/receive phone calls without the call dropping is a plus....it's amazing.

I'm not sure I really notice or am bothered by this on a daily basis either. I have a s7 and LG g pad tablet which I assume runs regular Android and it definitely seems to annoy me more than my s7. I had to switch to Google keyboard because the stock one was so bad.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 04-29-2017

The small bump up was 30 min wireless charging in my car. Other than that, I haven't charged my phone since 9 pm last night. I also went out last night, so it wasn't like I slept for 12 hours of it. This won't last as the battery ages, but it's mindblowing for now.

Anyone ever replace a HDMI input on a TV? I'm not sure what happened but an unused port that I know want to use was like split open if you've ever looked hard at a port, there's a seam in the middle and this one was popped open. Probably my college roommates forcing shit into it but I tried to fix it and I completely destroyed the port. So no the cable goes from being loose and almost falling out to not fitting at all.

I'm not great with soldering although I know how, I don't feel comfortable doing 19 close connections on a board. Has anyone done one or know a company that replaces them for not that much money? I'm sure it's not worth it especially for this TV.
