Let's talk kids and guns. Anyone have a link or care to type out a reasonable approach to introducing kids to guns? Right now, my primary goal is to prevent unhealthy fear and ensure he reacts appropriately when he's in the presence of one (not around me).

I know I mentioned this back in the fall, but, 3 coworkers and I are starting to hammer down some hard dates to take the bangsteel long range shooting class. Our schedules are all looking like late March to mid April. I know Rex was considering building a long range gun over the winter. Anyone want to take the class with us?

I just got that project started, it's been a long winter. My "canvas" should be here next week, but no way it'll be done by april.

This rifle needs to shoot a .75" edge-to-edge 5 shot group at 100m from a cold bore.
I'm thinking:
Magpul Hunter Chassis (bedded)
Decent Glass (My Vortex 2.5-10?)
Solid scope mount
Trigger (Giselle if they'd ever release it)
Target crown
Should get me there. I'm allowed to use any factory ammo I want, and my 10x scope should enable me to make reliable 1km IPSC hits...maybe.

There was an extended debate amongst my gun friends over this.
My OG plan was 6.5CR, like you. It had a lot going for it. I could run it in a large frame gas gun if I wanted, could buy a Ruger American and throw IT in the magpul chassis (someday, maybe, if magpul gets off their ass), and the ammo was becoming more and more common.
BUT. I don't have a large frame gas gun or plans to make one. I don't have an option for a "good but also not heavy" chassis for the American, and the Ruger stock sucks on ice. I also have a dream to take a Roosevelt Elk one day, and while it's not like 6.5CR *won't* do it, I don't think anyone would argue that everything a 6.5CR can do, the Tree Hunnit WinMag does better. And I can buy it at Wal-mart.
Put all that together, add in this:

Also, and I shit you not, it was cheaper to buy the 700 in 300WM than it was to buy the Ruger in 6.5CR.

So an old friend I grew up with is some sort of social media gun/2A talker abouter. He used to have an accessories business called "TacDaddy" (maybe he still does). He goes to Shot Show, does "reviews" on products, and those kinds of things and is now working for Funker Tactical in some capacity, probably running their social media or something. Anywho, he hosts a YouTube show called Gun News Weekly and will be talking tonight about the school shooting in FL. His daughters go to the school where it happened. Could be an interesting perspective. I've never watched so I have no idea the quality of the programming...
