Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - WRXtranceformed - 07-15-2014 Two days until Destiny beta!! I'm not going to be worried about sessioning as hard this time since we won't get to keep our character / gear. It sounds like they will be giving out some promotional stuff that will carry over though. Probably going to try a Hunter and Warlock class this time around but I really enjoyed playing as the Titan. My guy was so beast by the end even at the level / gear cap...and that tends to fit my gaming style (run into a room and crush stuff). Which is weird because I played a rogue in EQ back in the day ![]() Destiny definitely gave the nod to Sony in every way...along with more future support they gave PS4 users basically an extra week of beta over 360/XB1 users:
Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - RawrImAMonster - 07-15-2014 The supposed PC release date for Destiny got leaked yesterday from the Steam database. Apparently they're aiming for a March 2015 release for the PC version. Not sure how accurate that is going to be, but it's good to see that it will probably happen. Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - G.Irish - 07-15-2014 I'm not sure what class I'm gonna go with. I think the Hunter matches my style the best but I do kind of want to try the Titan since I saw Titans smashing the most shit in multiplayer. I guess we'll have enough time in the beta to try all 3 classes though. Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - WRXtranceformed - 07-15-2014 I never was real big on mage classes but the warlock apparently has the fastest health regen. Once you gear one up pretty good, depending on how they load up the perks on the armor, you could have a pretty beastly character that can teleport and drop crazy spells. Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - CaptainHenreh - 07-15-2014 I will probably take the first day to go ahead and create all three classes, then I can swap back and forth. But I ran Titan for the alpha and #feelsgoodman Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - G.Irish - 07-15-2014 Does anyone know what the differences are between the classes? Like, speed, damage taken, etc? Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - WRXtranceformed - 07-15-2014 The IGN wiki has some of the details. I was looking through them earlier. Just click on each class on the left: http://www.ign.com/wikis/destiny/Classes Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - Mike - 07-16-2014 So my Kinect was in fact bad. The new one arrived a couple of weeks ago and my entire system (not just shit related to the Kinect, which makes me think they're more tightly coupled than we may think) is working so much better. This system does not suck. Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - Apoc - 07-16-2014 Yay! I went back into the room where the playstation lived (I was on the shitter) and it turned on. Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - G.Irish - 07-17-2014 Got my Destiny Beta codes. Annnddd PS4 is choking. Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - CaptainHenreh - 07-17-2014 G.Irish Wrote:Got my Destiny Beta codes. Annnddd PS4 is choking. How's it feel to be part of a load test? Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - WRXtranceformed - 07-17-2014 Boof I can't download either...servers overloaded Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - WRXtranceformed - 07-17-2014 And I'm in! Success. Downloading the big update (11gigs) now. See you all on the wasteland! Probably going to start as a Hunter out of the gate Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - WRXtranceformed - 07-17-2014 Had an awesome session with Rex and another kid I met. Beat every instanced scenario and leveled a hunter up to 8 already ha. I'll put up more thoughts in the morning...But wow. Amazing game. Not feeling the hunger as much as the titan, but he definitely does serious damage. Just can't take a lot of abuse. Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - WRXtranceformed - 07-18-2014 Just realized I wrote "hunger" instead of Hunter haha...Anyway the game is pretty incredible. They opened up your Vanguard points so now you actually get "level up" credit for doing the single player / team instanced quests in the free-roam part of earth. It seems to take a really long time to level up and I don't know exactly how you get a "point"...it doesn't seem to give you one for every instance. Those are what give you the best armor / weapons outside of leveling up multiplayer with Crucible points. I realized that we did not complete the quest that opened up on the moon. I don't think Rex and the other guy were high enough to do it yet. Looking forward to seeing that landscape. I am not really sure how much multiplayer I will be doing when this game opens up. Don't get me wrong I love multiplayer games but I have Call of Duty for that. Unless I max out on vanguard / single player leveling I probably won't be in the crucible a whole lot. I couldn't tell if my Hunter was doing more damage than the Titan was with similar weapons. I was given different weapons at the end of quests / cryptarch turn ins...Looking through the upgrade tree the hunter gets focus upgrades that seem to give him more damage dealing abilities (grenade / throwing knife quick cooldown when picking up ammo, cluster grenades, etc.) which is great and all. But Rex and I have a similar "Hulk smash" play style and really at the end of the day you need someone in your group who can take some punishment. From what I am seeing I would gladly comprimise a little bit of DPS to have the sheer tanking ability and special powers of the Titan. We cranked up the heat on some of the instances to see how hard it was and there were a few times when all of us died and had to restart the scenario (group was hunter, hunter, warlock). Personally I would like to see a class that has small healing / buffing abilities...similiar to a paladin or shaman...rather than a warlock / mage class. Stoked to get home tonight and maybe fire up a warlock! Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - CaptainHenreh - 07-18-2014 Speaking of DPS, that's one metric I wish I could quickly calculate from the weapon selection screen. The "DMR" scout semi auto rifles don't suit me well. I was often engaging multiple targets at the "tip of the spear", chipping away at health/shields while my team mates put them down. Even jumping over enemy fire to nail some snipers with a melee following up with gunfire to put them down. The semi auto/small mag meant I had to be more precise than I could easily be for that playstyle, and it led to me "hanging back" a little so I could lay more accurate fire. With full auto I can "walk in" headshots on multiple targets, the scout rifles, though more damage per hit, don't allow me to do that. The problem with all that is that it is really difficult to do a 1:1 comparison of the different weapon types. If a scout rifle is a significantly higher level than an auto rifle, it might be worth me abandoning my auto rifle...but it's difficult to tell at a glance. And never mind the hand/cannon and pulse rifle selection. (Which, by the way, I hate and are awful. But maybe someone would like them?) In the Alpha I ran a titan with Auto Rifle/Sniper/Heavy Machine gun to good effect....I dont' think the beta will be any different, and that'll probably be my go-to operation for production. Also, best moment of last night: "Hey Lee, isn't this where that ??level Knight was hiding out in the alpha?" "Yeah Rex, I think it is!" "Let's go see if he's still there" Rex, Lee, and poor unsuspecting random wander to yon hidden cave. "OH SHIT HE'S STILL HERE AND HE'S PISSED RUUUUUUUUUUN" lawlz. Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - WRXtranceformed - 07-18-2014 ^^ Hahaha....we got tricky though! One of us would kite him and the other two would run in and grab the dead Ghost / loot chest ![]() I actually had a lot of success with the scout rifle last night (remember when LieutenantHades said "man someone is wrecking these guys with single shots") but it is because I purposely hung back and played the hunter class role. I had to, my guy couldn't take any hits before getting crushed. My rifle at the end (I got an upgraded one before I packed in for the night in the Tower) was cracking off 210 headshots, whereas my upgraded pulse rifle would only hit 62-62-62 if all three landed on the head. My sniper rifle was landing 1700+ headshots. It's not the way I personally like to play but you are right, scout rifles make zero sense if you are a run and gunner. Their power comes from the headshots for sure. I forget what my last gun was during Alpha as a Titan but it definitely wasn't a semi-auto. The full auto or even an upgraded pulse rifle makes sense for the Titan class because a lot of your damage dealing abilities (the flaming fist thing, your special, it looks like there is some kind of "run and shoulder charge" ability you get at higher levels) are done in close quarters battle. So your overall DPS to the group will balance out when you spray tons of bullets and drop hammer fists while other sit back and snipe / chip away at the outliers. It would be really nice (but doubtful will happen) if they included some kind of damage parser so you can figure out which gun is best for your style. I think that's what I like the best about this game though, everything is very balanced and suited for your playing style and class. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the warlock's real benefit was so I am looking forward to trying one out. I will say the Titan's special power is WAY better overall than the Hunter's golden gun, although that was handy for the Elder Captains that kept giving us a hard time. I think that's the benefit of having a balanced fire team. The AoE of the titan super is nice when you're being swarmed, but was basically useless against Sepiks Prime and the Walker.
