Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - SlimKlim - 02-07-2014 I bought this color on a whim 4.5 years ago and ended up keeping it forever. BMW had the best color choices in the 90s. Dakar, Technoviolet, Avus, Estoril, etc. I like the hellrot cars but it's a little orange-y, you don't notice it until it's parked next to an Imola E46. A few people have sprayed their E36s Imola and it looks ahhhmazing. Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - *insertusernamehere* - 02-07-2014 YES! I love Imola Red on e46's...but not so much e36 lol. I feel like the e36 is more a "blue car". Any shade of blue will look good on it Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - SlimKlim - 02-07-2014 Senor_Taylor Wrote:Well, at least it looks good! Hey it drives well. ...you just can't turn to full lock. :? It's not like I'm scraping as I drive down the street, I just know that at an autocross, throwing the car around, the tire would end up stuffed into the fender and add an undesirable new styling feature. I'm feeling out a couple different options. I really like the look of these wheels, but it would be expensive to take a hit on these tires I just bought and then buy new ones. If I could get at least $700 for these, I could buy 35 profiles for $780 and have them mounted. The cheaper options (and better for performance) are to either trade or sell as a whole set, and get lighter 17s, but finding a used set in the specs I want is tricky. Everyone runs hardparker, low-offset mesh style 17s. I want nice light and wide ones if I go back down to 17. I'll throw up some WTT ads this weekend and see if I can make something happen soon. At least it's finally out of the garage and I can enjoy driving it around town, now I just need the weather to get nicer. Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - SlimKlim - 02-07-2014 One last crappy iphone photo to wrap up her adventure out of the garage. ![]() I'm really digging the city lights, much more OEMish than the AEs. The increased camber [i]really[i] changes the way the car feels. It takes a while to adjust to how slow the old steering rack is after only driving the GTI/Kia for months at a time, but I after I got re-calibrated I really started to notice the difference. Any input from center gets the car all frothy and excited, like it's ready to dive in any direction you ask it to. So frustrating that I can't really hoon on it. I took lots of sweepers and on ramps at reasonable speed, but one off-camber 90* turn resulted in scary sounds from the front fender. ![]() Hopefully I get lucky and can swap a set of wheels with someone soon so I can really put it through its paces. If anyone knows anyone with a non-M E46 that wants some baller rimz and super sticky rubber, send them my way. Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - Senor_Taylor - 02-07-2014 I'd offer a trade for my 275/70/16s, but I don't think that'll help
Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - SlimKlim - 02-08-2014 Probably not. A rally fighter E36 would be interesting though. I decided I want to keep my blingy rimz, they're pretty and I've done lots of fussing to set the car up for 18s. I'll dip into my tax return to cover the difference between the cost of new tires and whatever I can sell these for. They are $860 new and shipped, so I listed them on CL, Bimmerfest and Bimmerforums for $725 picked up. Hopefully I can get at least seven hundo for 'em and not take too much of a loss. I'm tempted to pull the trigger on new tires so I can have the old ones available for immediate pick up, but I'm scared of getting stuck with them. I'll give it a couple days to see if someone is interested and willing to wait a couple days for me to get them dismounted. Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - SlimKlim - 02-11-2014 Took the plunge and ordered a set of Continental Extreme Contact DWs in the right size. Will get em mounted after snowmaggedon blows over. Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - SlimKlim - 02-19-2014 Aww. Muthafukin. Yiss. ![]() ![]() Look at all that room! You could have a party in there! Pretty sure a 255/35 of this particular tire would've fit without issue. Comparing them side by side the conti's have a much, much more rounded shoulder than the RS3s, so their version of a 245 is a bit more narrow than the crazy Koreans. Whatevs. I cannot accurately describe the emotion I felt when I backed it out of the garage, turned to full lock at the bottom of my driveway and heard... absolutely nothing. I was going to just drive it around the block, but I ended up taking it to Reston and back on the neighborhood roads to give it a good shake down. Couldn't make it rub no matter how hard I tried.

Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - SlimKlim - 02-19-2014 Exactly, and it's perfect. Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - SlimKlim - 02-24-2014 Had a blast taking this thing down to Harrisonburg on Saturday. I did ~300 miles and used 3/4 of a tank of gas in almost 6 hours of continuous driving. The headgasket continues to seep, but didn't lose a troubling amount of coolant even over that distance, so I feel better about potential autocross/hyperdrive events this year. The car drives like it's new. This was the first extended drive I had taken it on since I first tore it down in September, so I felt like I was getting to know it all over again. The driveshaft bushings are one of those things you don't really notice until it's fixed, but it makes a huge difference on a car of this mileage. The new steering rack obviously does wonders, and the swapped top hats makes the car feel incredibly planted in the corners. Might be the single best mod I've ever done, it just begs to be in the middle of a corner. On the way home, about 2 miles from the house on an off-ramp we kicked something up that went tumbling along the underside of the car, somehow putting a gouge in my right front wheel and tearing the rear diffuser clean off. ![]() ![]() I have no idea what it was, neither David nor I saw anything in the road. Nothing is leaking or dangling so I assume that's the only damage. I wanted to go and get some good photos yesterday, but now I might as well wait until I get another rear diffuser. Here's a lamo just-washed-my-car iphone photo: ![]() Plan of action: -Acquire used and/or cheap rear diffuser -Replace busted ass stereo -Replace clutch arm bushing -Should probably replace my radiator fan before it grenades and takes the radiator hoses down with it -Consider fixing my warped dash vents and then decide it's too much effort -Fab up some radiator clips because the factory ones keep popping off the brace -Drive  Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - Senor_Taylor - 02-24-2014 It was super awesome getting to see this in person! Glad you made it down. Looking forward to the car show! Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - SlimKlim - 03-03-2014 I installed a new head unit and fixed the wiring going to the driver's door tweeters so the radio doesn't sound like shit anymore. Still trying to track down a rear diffuser, and thinking of what I want to replace before I hyperdrive it in April. I'll probably replace the blades of the fan at the very least, it's old and when they fail they tend to take the radiator hoses and possibly the hood with them. Took her out for date night on Saturday even though her exhaust is a little overexposed at the moment. ![]() ![]()
Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - Sully - 03-03-2014 You'd take all the time to take the fan off and not go electric?!?! Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - SlimKlim - 03-03-2014 Takes me about 3 minutes to remove the fan and costs about $120 less to put new blades on the existing one instead of doing the conversion. :dunno: Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - Sully - 03-03-2014 Yea I guess I did mine when I did we everything else cooling so I lost track of just how long it takes. Electric = moar powerz though Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - SlimKlim - 03-03-2014 Yeah, i'll snuffle around and see if anyone is selling a conversion kit for cheap before I do it, I just don't really see the ROI on a $170 kit. I seriously doubt I'll notice the .2hp it frees up, the biggest benefits seem like engine bay beautification and not sounding like a Mack truck when it's hot. Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - *insertusernamehere* - 03-03-2014 Oh definitely! Lol. My old coworkers M3 had a "hood boner" after his fan broke up haha. |
