- balactm - 04-29-2009 HUZZAHH!!!!! - CaptainHenreh - 04-29-2009 Goodspeed, I'm glad it's not b0rked, but let this be a lesson to you. When you drive an ancient boat like a Supra (where are your argonauts, anyway?) you should be prepared to do serious work on it at a moment's notice. Up to and including engine replacement, clutch replacement, rear end replacement (Although it's got a pretty bitchin' rear end), ball joints, the whole 9 yards. You should have 500 bucks cash lying around in the event of a major malfunction. You're not going to listen to me because I wouldn't have listened to me btu that's what you oughta do. - ScottyB - 04-29-2009  - Jeff - 04-29-2009 Now sell it. And be done. Its a good feeling! - WRXtranceformed - 04-29-2009 Jeff Wrote:Now sell it. And be done. Its a good feeling! +1 - ViPER1313 - 04-29-2009 I'm going to say ignore these guys and keep it. You will either have to shell out 300+ dollars a month in insurance and car payments to get anything reliable and nearly as fast as that Supra. Will it break occasionally - yes, but even new cars do. - Mike - 04-29-2009 WRXtranceformed Wrote:Jeff Wrote:Now sell it. And be done. Its a good feeling! +2. Sounds like you already have a potential buyer. - BLAIR - 04-29-2009 just so everyone knows i laughed really loud for lke 5 mins when we instantly realized it was only a spark plug issue. HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAH suckaaaa oh yea.. KEEP THE CAR - Ryan T - 04-30-2009 Goodspeed I completely agree with Rex, if you are going to keep the car just have a "shit breaks" fund for you car. I've got about $800 stashed away that I don't touch unless it's a major auto repair/insurance deductible. - Jeff - 05-01-2009 The ideal situation would be to buy a second car. An older sedan or wagon, a practical car. Something that has like $300 a year insurance. - Goodspeed - 05-08-2009 So today DJ and I headed to the garage at the new place to tear into the 7M and replace the spark plugs/valve cover gaskets. It turns out the leak was real bad. The gaskets were hard and all the channels/edges of the covers were coated in oil; so were all the plugs. Well, replaced them and the gaskets and the car is already running smoother. ![]() ![]()
- ScottyB - 05-08-2009 wow, the head looks pretty darn clean for that kind of age. not alot of varnish on the inside of the valve covers. wish i had the mechanical know how to do that kind of repair when i was in college...hell i'm too weako to try something like that now  - balactm - 05-10-2009 goodspeed. garage looks awesome. glad the car is running better. are you still planning on selling and getting something else? - Goodspeed - 05-10-2009 balactm Wrote:goodspeed. garage looks awesome. glad the car is running better. are you still planning on selling and getting something else? I'm pretty much in the same position I've been for a few months now...happy to keep it, wouldn't mind selling it for the right price. The way the economy is right now, no one is really buying anything. I've received a few trade offers from my old FS ad, but right now its running better than ever; now that I have the garage, and nice weather, I'll take the targa out and just cruise around which is my favorite part of this car 8) Re: My Car! 1988 Toyota Supra Turbo Targa 5-speed - Goodspeed - 07-24-2009 Sold The new owner flew in today and picked the car up. It'll be making a semi-spiritual journey to the Tidewater area where it came from over 20 years ago, and then on to its new home in Huntsville, AL. After talking and meeting with him he was a great guy with a lot of knowledge of these cars as he owned one before. In his garage awaits suspension, wheels and tires, interior parts and a spare 7M for the planned 450+whp build, and he promised to keep in touch and send pics so I hope to post them here. Sad to see it go, a lot of memories with that car. Swim free, Manatee, swim free........ ![]()
Re: My Car! 1988 Toyota Supra Turbo Targa 5-speed - ScottyB - 07-24-2009 congrats! you'll be sad for the old boat but the fun part is the hunt for the new car....and then the mods begin Re: My Car! 1988 Toyota Supra Turbo Targa 5-speed - Ryan T - 07-25-2009 And once again, our fearless leader is carless...
