Quote:Crime and Punishment

When the state of Virginia instituted a set of abusive driver fees ÔÇö charging serious offenders hundreds ÔÇö sometimes thousands in extra penalties ÔÇö it said they were aimed at only the worst drivers. But now a 19-year-old boy from Newport News has been ordered to pay more than $1,000 for recklessly operating ÔÇö his bicycle.

Kajuan Cornish says he was stopped by a police officer who said he was riding too fast through an intersection. Now Cornish must pay the fee or hire an attorney to fight it in court.

Cornish was assessed the fine one day after Virginia Governor Tim Kaine admitted the abusive driver fees were a failure ÔÇö and called for them to be repealed.

bike riding pricks in oakton need a few $1,000 fines shoved up their spandex clad, buttplug sporting asses

- .RJ - 01-14-2008

Yep, that extra few minutes to get home must be killing you...

says the guy who complains about more lame trivial shit than anyone Ive ever known.

if you think a cyclist has the right to illegally ride in the middle of the road on high traffic / blind corner roads, you need to get that brain tumor looked at.

seconds... seriously.

Yeah, I do. Share the fucking road. Whats it to you? It takes you an extra 3 minutes to get home?

I complain about a lot of shit but I never complain about traffic. I stopped getting bent about delays in getting somewhere a long time ago.

Edit: I got hit a few years ago riding on the road. To and from the W&OD is about as much time as I spend on the road if I can help it... so intolerance of bicycles on the road is a bit of a sore spot.

- Ginger - 01-14-2008

Last I checked, riding a bicycle on the road isn't illegal.

I got the impression the method in which they were riding was illegal.

- Ginger - 01-14-2008

I'm trying to figure out what he was doing that was illegal. Unless it was riding ON the yellows or something.

- NTIman - 01-15-2008

Sure. Bike riders have all the right in the world to be on the road. I just wish that around here (Winchester) that they'd ride with a little more common sense, ie not riding directly in the middle of the lane on some of the worst roads in the area for a) drivers driving like idiots, and b) blind curves during the busiest time of the day (5PM).

I'm not trying to start anything, but share the road goes both ways.

On that topic, everyone on mopeds/scooters should be shot (moreso than cyclists). If there is one thing roads don't need, its uninsured jackasses with no licenses and 12 year olds and their best friend riding bitch on a motorized 2 wheeled vehicle thats no capable of moving more than 25mph.

Either way, I guess I should just get over it all.

bike riders around cville are suicidal. i have no problems with them being on the road, but if we're gonna share the road, we have to share the same rules. dont run stop signs or red lights when i'm coming.

Maengelito Wrote:dont run stop signs or red lights

Yup... goes both ways.

- Maengelito - 01-15-2008
