No, its not - because of the way the fender curves, we had to do it at more of an angle than the other 2, so visually they look the same from the side of the car.

I keep telling him that!

looks good - are you planning on doing anything with the gold stripe on the door - I don't know how I feel about it just kinda ending at the A pillar - what if you connected it to the stripe on the fender to make one big upside down swoosh or something

i kind of agree with Reed on this one. would you consider connecting the gold on the fender to the gold on tha a-pillar?

I considered it, but I'm lazy Wink

Another somewhat productive evening... knocked out a few small items, removed header/exhaust (Tentatively scheduled for sunday to go down and help Dave put the race exhaust together), put mirrors back on (w/ MM's!), and put my Lamin-X film on the headlights/side markers. Its pretty thick stuff, and overall I'm happy for the $30 it cost, everything pre-cut. Its kind of a pain to install due to how thick it is, but a little love with the heat gun and it worked out pretty good. Once all that was done I got the garage a bit more organized also.

Also going to get started on the next project.... I'm going to dissasemble and port match the spare head to get practice, and then I'll tear into the spare engine for rebuild. Watch for the "your engine a splode" thread Wink

- Jeff - 03-16-2006

the lamin-x looks great! Is that extra think or is it normally that thick? The whole car looks great!

- Sijray21 - 03-16-2006

great progress with this thing

Lookin' good RJ Big Grin

only $30 for the lamin-x ? do you have a heat gun and a link to the site

- Feersty - 03-16-2006

Looks good man. Do eventually phase out insurance on it, now that it is no longer a street vehicle?

http://lamin-x.com - normal thickness, "17 mil" - its about as thick as a heavy duty rubber glove (probably a sister joke in that one). Warming the lamin-x up to give it some compliance and applying it dry from one edge to the other was best, doing it with soapy water didnt let it adhere to the lights very well at all.

I think it was $18 in the store, comes with a scraper and a few attatchments for the gun, its really nice, has 2 settings - hot and burn the house down. This thing puts out some serious heat, and you have to be careful when using it on vinyl, lamin-x, etc becuase it heats things up really quick and will shrink the edges up.

I'm going to keep it registered for now - makes it easier to shake down any problems I might have and bed in brakes - and I can drive it to summit if I want for instructing.

ack getting in to too many colors... yellow tint, red, black, white, gold, yellow, amber, blue...

why did you tint the headlights?

- .RJ - 03-16-2006

Mike Wrote:why did you tint the headlights?

They have to be taped up to race, dummy. Better than vinyl.

Clear packing tape, problem solved, and they don't come out looking like Rob got ahold of them w/ a Spray can...and what is with you guys and Gold?

- Kaan - 03-16-2006

To thin for what? All it needs to do is hold the plastic together when you bust 'em, or are yours glass?

Well, the thicker stuff *should* provide a little protection against the plastic busting in the first place Smile The 'teg headlights are kind of a pain in the ass to get in good shape.
