It took a few hours and some sweat, but I'm happy to have it out. Now I just need to find a good way to remove the adhesive residue left. If it's not well below 2850 at VIR next weekend, I'll be starting to run out of ideas to lose the weight. ![]() Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk RE: The Cart Before the Horse: Spec 3 Build - Deceus - 10-12-2019 ![]() Slap one of these on an angle grinder and go to town. Just be ready to repaint when you're done. The Cart Before the Horse: Spec 3 Build - Senor_Taylor - 10-20-2019 Used some "goof off" tar remover and it was way better than I expected. Tore through like 8 scotchbrite pads though. Did a very ugly and hasty coating with some primer when I was done and I'm fairly pleased with the results. Did a nut and bolt/inspection to prep for VIR next weekend and did some cleanup with wires and plastic bits that have broken off or are loose. Taped up the lights and fog light blanks that keep flying out and fixed all of the lights that were burned out or broken. Also adjusted my headlights. Washed it, did a light buff, and a spray on wax, then put way too much JB weld on my O2 bung to seal up a leak from where the unnamed person who made my spec exhaust forgot to weld it. I put a dab of JB on there when I installed it, but it blew out during the first event and made me get a check engine light if I idled for a while. I think we're ready! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk RE: The Cart Before the Horse: Spec 3 Build - Kaan - 10-22-2019 what the... are you doing with that 02 sensor? RE: The Cart Before the Horse: Spec 3 Build - JPolen01 - 10-22-2019 Why can't you remove the exhaust and have a proper O2 bung welded in? RE: The Cart Before the Horse: Spec 3 Build - .RJ - 10-22-2019 he said bung The Cart Before the Horse: Spec 3 Build - Senor_Taylor - 10-22-2019 There is a bung welded on. There's a leak because the weld is crap. I covered the hole with jb weld. "Why don't you just pay someone to do X" Can be said a million times for a million things. Can't do them all. I'll get someone to weld it eventually if the JB weld doesn't hold. If it does, who cares? ![]() Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk RE: The Cart Before the Horse: Spec 3 Build - JPolen01 - 10-22-2019 I never said pay someone to do it. Doesn't Kaan have a welder? He would probably do it for a microbrew or an ocean fishing lure. But yeah, I didn't realize it was mostly welded. The JB weld will probably hold for an event or two. RE: The Cart Before the Horse: Spec 3 Build - .RJ - 10-22-2019 Even Kaan doing it for free means 2 hours in the car. i get it. I offered to do it for him and I’m 5 minutes out of the way to Road Atlanta where he is going in a month. ![]() RE: The Cart Before the Horse: Spec 3 Build - Senor_Taylor - 10-22-2019 (10-22-2019, 06:53 PM)D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:You offered after I had already JB welded it. The thumbs up were to make sure she was fine for another lap. Her session was right after mine. Car felt really really good. the RA1s finally got down past the tread blocks and picked up a lot of speed. I changed my line in a few places to be more like the Spec 3 line and I'm really feeling like I'll be close ish to their race pace once I have a suspension on my car and I'm running RRs. Presently I'm 5 seconds or so behind the fastest Spec 3 guy, so I hope having the same equipment as them can help me pick up another second or two, then the rest is all driver mod. So far, I'm 10 seconds faster than I was in March. Set my personal best at 2:19 during Open track on Friday and continued chasing that the rest of the weekend. The car understeers really hard compared to the Spec cars, so I really look forward to getting the sway bars, camber plates, and stiffer suspension they run. Training as Pace car some more (thanks Tyler for letting me borrow your BRZ) and got another clean DE3 weekend under my belt. Picked up some more Spec 3 parts and a dual fuel pump setup that I'm going to try to wire up soon. Most importantly, AKG has decided to sponsor me on my path to Spec 3, so they'll be helping out with the bushings and chassis reinforcements I need, which I'm really excited about. On to Summit in 2 weeks! RE: The Cart Before the Horse: Spec 3 Build - Senor_Taylor - 10-30-2019 Installed my AKG Motor mounts last night and noticed that my 10 month old poly control arm bushings I got from FCP had essentially exploded. Luckily I'm being supported by AKG now so they're sending me some 75D control arm bushings and transmission mounts that I hope to be able to install before Summit. Of course the car waits for the 2 weeks between events to break. Dropping off 16 wheels at Mach V today to hopefully get my tires onto the least bent wheels, toss the bent ones, and flip my RA1s around so I can swap them side to side and help prolong their lives. My driver side tires are really worn funny from lack of camber, lack of pressure, and probably pushing them too hard on right handers. ![]() The Cart Before the Horse: Spec 3 Build - Senor_Taylor - 11-01-2019 Got my stuff from AKG. AKG 75D engine and trans mounts. 75d Control arm bushings too. Car us hopefully ready for Summit. May try to get my dual fuel pump setup done. Mach V says none of my wheels were bent, so I guess the previous place did a bad job of balancing them. Like really bad. Enough to freak out Jake when he was in the car. Should have enough tire and brake for the rest of the season. Like really bad. Enough to freak out Jake when he was in the car. It was less of a freakout and more of a "my brain is shaking inside my head and it hurts" thing. Same has happened on a Bird scooter that had one too many super-sick skids initiated by the rear brake/flat-spotting. RE: The Cart Before the Horse: Spec 3 Build - Sijray21 - 11-04-2019 did the weights fall off? that's happened to me before. as in, have the wheels ever felt balanced and then didn't for some reason? |
