That seems insanely tacky to have a phone either stuck on the inside of your window or the outside of your house.

So the Skybell SlimLine finally dropped with basically no fanfare, I think because it's really only available via dealers (and some shady eBayers) who work through Alarm.com. I only noticed it because Frontpoint had a pic of it up on its site. I found this that gives some more details about it:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.nellyssecurity.com/media/specsheets/alarm/SKYBELL-HD/alarmcom-VDB105-data-sheet.pdf">http://www.nellyssecurity.com/media/spe ... -sheet.pdf</a><!-- m -->

It's 720p vs. 1080p of the HD and does IR instead of full color at night like the HD. The only reason we'd consider this one is aesthetically it would look better than a big ole 3" doorbell but I think I would rather have the HD with the better performance specs for $10 more. So the HD will be on the way soon and hopefully it works better than the Ring version

Re: "home false sense of security" :P - JustinG - 07-07-2017

Sometimes it will randomly lose connection to the interwebs, this may happen 1 time every couple of months.

My only complaint is sometimes people don't push the button hard enough, but we get the motion notification before they get a chance to ring the doorbell anyway.

It's not newest album by [insert whatever artist kids are listening to these days].

Unfortunately, I this also won't work for us due to space limitations.

SkyBell HD on sale for Prime Day, 20% off, so it is like $130

I saw that actually, wifey dove into the product specs and reviews and we think that might be the "old" version of the HD that has a battery and slightly worse specs. They apparently had a bunch of issues with the batteries in them overheating and bulging so they released the latest version that doesn't require batteries. I think these are on sale because they are actually the old version (when you click on the other versions they are priced at or above retail)

Re: "home false sense of security" :P - JustinG - 07-11-2017

HD is hardwire only. They had a 2.0, but this isn't it. It looks exactly like the HD I have.

Hrm alright! Per the Skybell site it does look like even the new ones have integrated batteries to help regulate power, so maybe wifey misread or sometimes people review / comment on the wrong product. Either way I'm going to do what any red-blooded Amazon Prime member would do and pull the trigger and then send it back if it is not as expected

That price is too good to not take a flier on it. Good looks! I owe you a burrr

Re: "home false sense of security" :P - JustinG - 07-11-2017

Better than $190 through FP.

If you are mounting direct to siding you may need the wedge mount, but don't bother til you try first. We didn't need the wedge mount.

Re: "home false sense of security" :P - WRXtranceformed - 07-11-2017

Yeah for sure! Although I may have an place a hardware order / try to negotiate some stuff for free with Frontpoint when our contract term ends in September. I need to get a few more sensors and I'd also like to get two of their smoke detectors so I can take advantage of the fire monitoring that's part of our package. We have that budget GE control panel and I'd kind of like the touch screen nicer one.

I'll have to do a little repainting of the door moulding since this thing is circular shaped but yeah fortunately I don't have to mount it to the siding

Re: "home false sense of security" :P - Apoc - 07-11-2017

That reminds me, I want to order a new door sensor to put on my gun safe.

It really annoys me that I have to call Frontpoint to do anything of value. Let me do everything online, fuckers.

Re: "home false sense of security" :P - Apoc - 07-11-2017

Oh shit! Sensor ordered.

I just noticed that today too, awesome!

Re: "home false sense of security" :P - Nis01 - 07-13-2017

Are you guys still overall happy with Frontpoint? I'm about to make the switch and this seems like the best option. I reached out to them a while ago and they offered a pretty solid deal, not sure if they would still honor it or not.

With the monitoring do they seem pretty on top of things? I had an issue the other day where family came over and accidentally triggered the alarm. They called me after about a minute of the alarm going off for the code to de-activate. I was surprised that after this timeframe I never got a communication from ADT verifying a false alarm. They have done this in the past quite quickly. I don't currently have any app control of current alarm system which bugs me.

Re: "home false sense of security" :P - Apoc - 07-13-2017

I think frontpoint has a time span they give you to enter a code because we've set ours off and they haven't called. We've also had one instance where we triggered an Instant alarm and they called right away.

Re: "home false sense of security" :P - WRXtranceformed - 07-14-2017

Also second Frontpoint being awesome. You do have a period of time that the alarm will go off until the cell signal is sent out for them to reach out to you. It's for instances like that where you accidentally set off the alarm, they give you a grace period before the emergency signal is sent so you can punch in your code.

Re: "home false sense of security" :P - JPolen01 - 07-14-2017

I think that is all alarm companies. Otherwise there would be so many false alarms that they would be calling you and sending emergency responders. I know I have set ours off a few times and we get it turned off before a call ever gets made to us.

Re: "home false sense of security" :P - Nis01 - 07-14-2017

That makes sense. We've been overall happy with ADT but basic functionality. Looks like FP seems to add new products somewhat frequently. The hidden wireless sensors are a nice touch. I'll update when I pull the trigger which I expect will be soon.
