Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 08-24-2014

Well I purchased one of these to add to my exhaust today: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/vpe-1140/overview/

As the Magnaflow muffler has lost some of its packing and gotten really worn it it is not able to keep the deep tone above 4k when the VVT switches over like it used too. It now sounds like a swarm of bees and I really do not enjoy the exhaust note unless I'm below 3500. So, I'm hoping this resonator will get rid of a bit of drone, not be terribly raspy above 4k like it is now, and give it a little quieter/deeper tone all around.

I shall be putting it on where test pipe is right now hopefully a local Bill's Muffler will do this for me even though I'm catless. I don't know if shops work on catless cars even if they aren't touching anything emissions wise like just adding a resonator. If not I guess it will be sitting awhile until Kaan has time and/or wants to help me out again.

There is a guy in broadway who will work on them if Bill's won't. He swapped the catbacks on my Evo for me when I was catless. I don't think he'll remove cats, but he will work on the rest of the exhaust if needed I think.

Broadway's only a 20-25 minute drive from Harrisonburg.

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 08-25-2014

Thanks for the info Stephen. As long as they aren't ridiculously expensive for a hack and weld job for one resonator..

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Kaan - 08-26-2014

14 inches is going to be a tight fit i think! (thats what she said)

I know i'm busy this weekend coming up but i can see what the schedule looks like after that. I have family in town but after that i'm going to finish the wood projects up and clear out room.

Yes it will be a tight fit. I have just enough room under there though. The second cat was about 10-12 inches. The resonator is supposed to get here Thursday so I will have to go down to Bill's Muffler and see what they can do.

Boxception to get to the resonator: [Image: 2e1go05.jpg]

Thing is beautiful. Can't wait to get it on. Hopefully will get rid of the rasp.

With the 2nd cat delete and the tune making the engine way more aggressive during VVT switch has gotten a lot of rasp in 1st/2nd I want to get rid of. Here is a quick video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0YCaux ... jvk412WvrA

Shoulda waited another day to post it, could have been a celebration of the birthday of the guy who invented the thing.

Had no idea haha. Well I'll celebrate his birthday when I get it installed tomorrow. I'll give it a good redline to burn the resonator in.

After Resonator: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JW11BPh ... e=youtu.be

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Senor_Taylor - 09-03-2014

So does the resonator make it so it's only loud when you want it to be? I barely heard you when you went into the Grace street deck today.

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 09-03-2014

Yeah it is a hybrid between a resonator and a muffler basically. It isn't loud normal driving unless I get on it hard. Which I like and even when I'm on it hard the cabin has barely any noise like it used too. Which is nice but feels weird. I feel like it will get louder over time and I don't mind being quieter than I was to have a quality exhaust note

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 09-22-2014

Trunk lip spoiler installed. More ricer mods on the way in then next few months. Along with better pictures.

Spoiler was way more quality (paint and material) than I expected and was shipped decently. Not bad for how cheap it was.

looks good!

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 09-23-2014

Front lip on. Have like 3 inches or less of clearance in the front now and I want to lower it and finish all the lips around. Will be interesting if it will even be drivable as I already scraped it tonight haha.

Dude. This is coming together. Hopefully I get a good look at it tomorrow.

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Kaan - 09-24-2014

I guess you are going to get a ride to turducken this year lol

Perhaps an XJ valet service can be arranged... Driver prefers bourbon tips..

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - SlimKlim - 09-24-2014

What kind of clearance do you have under that lip? I think I have a smidge over 3" with the splitters on the M3 and it was a bitch in Harrisonburg thanks to all the concrete drains at every freaking intersection. I scraped all the time, broke the passenger bumper support, and actually ripped one of them clean off and had to get another set. I had a photo on my old phone of it in a parking spot that was so fucked up the splitter was resting firmly on the concrete.

Just a word of caution.
