Just double checked with my networking team downstairs and they confirmed what I thought. Unless you have some super, super fancy repeater bridge, odds are the routing is still being done on the main AP/router; even though the repeater has a separate subnet/network. Back in the day i re-flashed a AP/router to have it serve as a repeater-bridge and even that relied on the main unit for routing.

You might be fine, just thought it'd be worth mentioning.

Thanks that's good to know  Yeah mine's not super fancy, it's just some Linksys one I got on Amazon. I may end up hooking it up anyway just to get some better signal to the cameras on the far side of the house once they get installed.

So project Fi has been driving me a bit crazy lately. Dropped calls, crappy tower switching, etc, etc.

So time to switch to VZW.

However, I am really gonna miss my SMS/MMS fwd feature I got with Fi. When I travel, I only took my work phone, cause I could get any SMS/MMS messages sent to my personal phone sent over to my work cell.

Any messaging apps out there that will sync up SMS/MMS across Android and iOS platforms? I was thinking Pushbullet? Anything else out there?

That's too bad to hear. I was afraid that would happen with their network. They are using sprint and t-mobile towers?

Sprint, TMO, and US Cell.

To be fair it is called "Project" Fi. But now that the big carriers are fighting each other, I can get VZW with my phone and watch connected for about $8 more a month, sharing 4gb with the wife. Plus they do rollover data now, so we should have plenty.

We avg just over 2gb a month combined, with both of us WFH we are on wifi 80% of our day.

90% of my issues are when I am connected to Sprint, and cause it is the strongest signal, their algorithm forces the phone to connect to it.

Calls to Fi have given me no resolution, they call Sprint for a resolution, and I am sure Fi's issues are at the very bottom of their backlog.

You can force carriers on Fi, but I am having some of the same issues. VZw is looking better since they dropped their prices...

Anddd Sprint is still dog poop.

VZW for the win, never looked back. Some things in life are worth paying a premium for, cell phone signal / coverage is definitely one of them.

Yea, I have Signal Spy and been forcing to TMO, but it reverts back after a couple of hours.

This x1000. I have to tell the wife all the time I would rather pay a premium for a service I never have issues with than change and risk it for a slight savings.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - WRXtranceformed - 03-29-2017

Speaking of which, I was having TERRIBLE battery drain issues with my S7 until the last Nougat OS update. Like I would lose over 20% battery overnight with no applications running. After two updates I lost maybe 1% overnight and my battery is lasting all day. Dunno what they changed but "Android System" used to be constantly draining the battery. Hooray progress!

I've been on AT&T for like 12 years, but am seriously considering switching to VZW with the release of the S8. It seems like AT&T's service has degraded noticeably in Seattle, to the point that I sometimes can't get any webpages to load. The one thing that's kept me from switching is I still have a 28% AOL employee discount with AT&T.

Facebook Messenger.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 03-29-2017

does it really sync SMS/MMS across devices?!?!?!? If it does I am down.

EDIT: And it appears in typical iOS fashion.....NERP, you use iOS Messages or GTFO.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JPolen01 - 03-29-2017

He was saying to just use Facebook messenger because it's its own app. Not that it will aggregate everything from different apps.

Messenger supports native SMS... only on Android apparently. That said, I think it has to be on the device that is actually receiving the SMS so cross-device syncing isn't gonna work. As in, there's no way to get your SMS on Facebook via computer (without Pushbullet).

...but, yeah, I was saying to abandon the SMS protocol. When I travel internationally, I just use Messenger.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 03-30-2017

Looks like we pay $89/month for 7 GB before taxes and devices on AT&T. To get a similar price on VZW, it would be $90 for 4 GB. Unfortunately, 4 might be a bit of a stretch. Looking at the last 13 months, we would have paid an overage 3 of the months. In summary, it'll cost about $4/month for us to move to VZW. Hmmmm.

3.3 | 4.9 | 4.5 | 4.1 | 3.2 | 3.9 | 1.1 | 2.8 | 2.7 | 2.1 | 1.9 | 2.8 | 6.4*

*I was watching Amazon Video on cell because my mom's wifi was horrific.

edit: Can get unlimited on TMO for $100 month, taxes included, plus 10 GB monile hotspot, free 256kbps internationally (and text), and 1 hour free data on every Gogo flight. Double and triple hmmm.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - ViPER1313 - 03-30-2017

But it's TMOBILE.... if it's anything like it used to be, it's cheap for a reason. When I went on the BABE rally in 2012? I got (what felt like) 0 data reception between NY and LA, where Stephanie's IPhone on AT&T had reception pretty much everywhere. We both switched to Verizon a couple years later and love it.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 03-30-2017

Not sure a five year old anecdote about driving across the country is good data to go on. I spend 95% of my life in downtown Seattle, so I'm not sure I need to pay a premium for the handful of times a year I go camping. I need to do more research into INTL plans for VZW; that will likely be the deciding factor.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Sully - 03-30-2017

I'm on Verizon. We have way more data than we need and pay alot per month. Might look to triming it down. Currently have to phones and two tablets on network. Definitely don't need the one tablet. I do enjoy having that cushion of data though. Just in case. And I'll probably always stay with VZW just because I never have to wonder. Like if I don't have service somewhere, it's very unlikely that anyone else will.

Anyone thinking of getting the s8? I like my Galaxy devices for the most part but would consider switching to the Google phone if it had wireless charging and some other things. Bixby is intriguing but sounds like it won't play nice with most apps. Google will do pretty much everything I want it to on my s7. S voice or whatever can't even pull my fiance's contact up in my phone no matter how I change or edit the phonetic contact info. And although it seems small, it is (probably similar to everyone else) my most used contact. I understand it's an uncommon name but Google picks it up without fail every time.

Also not excited it's a fairly new tech for Samsung so the first iteration will probably suck.

In other news, Google home sucks. She can't really do anything except play music and even that can be a pain to get her to listen. Asking her most questions gets a response that she doesn't know how to do that yet. And I really wish you could change its name to something else instead of saying ok Google. Makes you feel like you're going crazy or talking to a small annoying child that doesn't listen when trying to get her to do something.

Google play is pretty awesome. I've never paid for a music service before but the creating a station from a song or playlist (like Pandora but way better) is pretty awesome but actually plays the artist you wanted also instead of just things like that artist. I read that you can build a playlist of mixed stuff and create a station which I was excited about because I like new and old stuff. So far though, it'll either start the station and build a mix of old stuff or a mix of new stuff with one or two old songs on the entire playlist. Then if you continue to restart it, it'll go completely old school. Maybe cause my playlist had all the old on top and new on the bottom? Idk but I'm hoping to get that figured out cause I'd really like a true mix station and I don't spend alot of time adding songs to my playlists so it's nice to get some random songs I haven't heard in a while.

I dunno, I quite like google home. Granted, I bought it specifically TO play music, but I like the functionality to add things to a grocery list (and have that sync'd to my phone) and give reminders and estimated travel times to places. Maybe I'm just easy to please?

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Sully - 03-30-2017

I've had hit or miss experience with adding things to the shopping list. One thing I don't strange is that I can ask the Google assistant on my phone to do something and yet Google home can't do it. Can't think of a specific example but I know I've had it happen
