Sounds like the PS4 is it for True Gamers ™ everywhere.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - G.Irish - 04-23-2014

Destiny website is out with some small updates: http://www.destinythegame.com/

Hopefully they'll be announcing the beta dates soon.

Watched the latest Destiny gameplay trailer, looks awesome.

I haven't really touched MGS or KZ much because Infamous. I love the Paper Trail missions. Having to go back and forth between your PS and your laptop to examine clues, exploring in-game character websites that were set up in real life specifically for this game is so innovative.

Here's the video (7 minutes of gameplay): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeDaevD7cEo

I liked what I saw from the gameplay. Looks like there'll be a TON of options for how you deal with each situation. You can customize how your character jumps (double jump, float, teleport) and it looks like you can customize how they move on the ground (slide/dodge). I think that part will be a lot of fun, I really liked the 'Evade' armor ability in Reach. Might make things really tricky in competitive multiplayer though.

The strike mission reminds me of a new and improved Firefight mode, but maybe blended into the overall story and universe better.

Wow I didn't know Infamous 2 was that deep. I might have to pick that up whenever I get around to buying a PS4.

I wasn't a huge fan of the pre-alpha gameplay, but I can be convinced...

Yeah, here is one of the websites that was created for the game. http://departmentofunifiedprotection.com/
You then log in on their intranet site with stolen login credentials you dig up in investigations...to further the storyline and learn more inside info: http://departmentofunifiedprotection.com/intranet

I fired up Killzone single player a little more last night and it is surprisingly well balanced. I am playing on the hardest mode or whatever and it is a significant challenge. Most of that stems from the fact that there is very little cover in most of the boards so far. A lot of the boards put you in firefights in very disadvantageous situations (low ground with no cover, enemies on high ground with cover, etc.) but if you think smart you can usually find an advantage (shooting window covers on a space ship that let's sun rays come in and burn up the enemies). The OWL is such a nice thing to have too, it really helps draw a lot of fire and throws off the AI from completely storming you. Everything about your capabilities, weapons, etc. helps bring some thought / strategy into how you are fighting. I am curious to see how all of that translates to multiplayer, but I want to get through the campaign first per the usual.

It's also amazing how something simple like a speaker and touchpad in the controller can make you feel more immersed in the game. When you pick up an audio log and play it, it plays through the controller so it feels like it's playing from a wrist HUD or helmet. Swiping the touch pad lets you select different OWL modes very quickly and easily. Just very cool stuff, I am very excited to see what the Oculus Rift / VR stuff looks like when it comes out.

I really enjoyed the KZ single player campaign but my multiplayer experience consisted of getting out of the kiddie pool and getting promptly curbstomped.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - CaptainHenreh - 05-13-2014

Is the Racing Game dying as a genre? I was watching the latest Watch Dogs trailer, and there's a whole section devoted to multiplayer racing functionality inside a larger open-world game. I know that "hardcore" racers will still probably buy the latest GT or Forza, but with the flexibility that an open world game offers, do you think that, say, GTA6 could just license REAL car designs and be the next "best racing game"?

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - G.Irish - 05-13-2014

I don't think so. Typically to be a successful racing game it needs to have a lot of licensed cars in the game. That costs a fair bit of money and would blow up the cost to produce something like GTA, which is already the most expensive game to make in the industry by a good margin. Would having a bunch of licensed cars result a big enough increase in sales to be profitable? I'd say no. Most people who would buy an arcade-style racer would've bought GTA anyway, you'd have to convince a large number of customers who would not have bought GTA otherwise.

With the computing power required to make a sim-style racing game it is extremely unlikely that GTA could shoehorn that in the game in addition to all of the other bells and whistles that are typically present in a GTA game. And again they'd have to commit a significant amount of budget to the racing portion of the game.

so now that xbone is $100 cheaper, is it worth it?

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - JPolen01 - 05-14-2014

You can also watch any streaming service without xbox gold membership.

I thought the kinect was required since it was an "integral part of the XBOX ONE experience"?

This, glad to hear some of you guys are coming around on the suckness of the media "experience" that happens when you plug all of your stuff into XB1.

Definitely not worth it. On the other side, I am absolutely 100% satisified with my PS4. Incredible gaming system, pretty good indie games to tide you over until the big names drop, what's out right now is enough to have fun and keep occupied. Super fast (timed the power button to dashboard boot and it was almost exactly 20 seconds), decent UI. Would definitely recommend if you are on the fence for either. Oh, you also don't need the PS version of the kinect Smile

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - Mike - 05-14-2014

going to ps4 would complicate my wiring and make me use my harmony remote again. not sure if that's as big a deal as it is in my head. it is also nice not having a good gaming system keeping me from being outside Tongue

I'm still drinking the kool aid. I went on vacation for a week and I greatly missed having my XBox to control everything or watch internets through. I do agree the game situation is kinda lame though. I think both boxes were released well before the games had a chance to catch up. I can't imagine doing without it at this point but as I've mentioned many times before, I only buy 2-3 games a year.

I still don't see why you like that interface so much. Doesn't it get annoying when half the time the XB doesn't recognize the command, or when you are talking to your spouse and it triggers the system, or the reduced video quality, or the lagginess? Is it that big of a deal to use remotes?
