Inspiron's? They are the sketchy dell line. if you stick with the latitudes it should be a much better experience. new xps have been getting solid reviews also, we've had a few seed units here for testing and they've been solid so far.

Sorry, yeah that's what i meant. Latitude is the Dell business line which is good, if a little uninspired.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - .RJ - 01-11-2017

Yep, I think its Inspirons. They're garbage... they break... they buy more of them and then get mad that they suck. I facepalm. Repeat.

Didn't know where else to put this, but any recommendations on shop vac horsepower / capacity? I've got a small one wifey bought me for detailing (like 2hp) but I need something significantly stronger and that could be moved through in-house doorways / ideally up the stairs into the attic if need be

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JPolen01 - 01-12-2017

What the hell are you vacuuming in your attic?

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Ken - 01-12-2017

What, you think the Timepiece Gallery is going to clean itself?

Our new house is Energy Star compliant and is so "tight" apparently that they had to install a fresh air system in the attic. Like, it literally pulls fresh air into the house, filters it and introduces it into the HVAC ducts. The housing and both filter systems have to be vacuumed out of dust and little bugs about once every 3 or 4 months.

Also, in my old house my damn AC unit overflowed in the attic and I had to borrow one at the time to get the water out of the pan. We have had some other water related issues recently (while the house was built energy efficiently, the plumbing apparently sucks) so all around it's a needed purchase

I recommend high horsepower, low volume.

Same deal with our new place, Energy Star certified.

I'm kinda glad ours does this through the downstairs bathroom exhaust fan, vs the HVAC. I'd be concerned the humidity would mess with the HVAC. But :dunno:, it's all witch craft.

Switch Off: Pressure sensor kicks on ventilating fresh air in and regulating the pressure in the house.
Switch On: switches to exhaust blowing out the duct work.

I dunno about humidity and this system but everything is alright so far! I actually wish our house had an integrated humidifier, it's been pretty dry in here.

That's what I was looking for Chris! Moar powerr less weight, jus like racecar

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 01-12-2017

Wish ours did too, thermostats are showing like 20% humidity, may look into adding one to our upstairs system.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 01-12-2017

I added one to our last two houses. Well, I paid someone because it includes plumbing and I wanted someone to call if the room flooded. The $150 or whatever one from Home Depot is what I used both times and have no real complaints. I'd add one to this house, but we're on oil heat and that's getting ripped out when we remodel our basement.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Steve85 - 01-13-2017

Speaking of air in houses, anyone ever get a radon test? We had to do one for the house we just sold and the levels were waaay high, triple the EPA recommended. The venting brought it down to trace levels. I'm not sure how much of a real concern it is, but we spend a lot of time in the basement of the new house and thinking of getting it tested.

It was required by our lender when we bought our house. A neighborhood near where I grew up had some deaths attributed to radon. Turns out the developer built houses on an old landfill which was never disclosed. Since then it's very common to test around here.

Was required when we bought our house. Scary thing is the levels can come and go. Aka if you buy your house and it tests low doesn't mean in 6 years when you sell it that it won't have increased. It's fairly simple and common to fix though.

Lee, I've had a 12 gallon 5hp peak shop vac that had all sorts of adapters for years and it's taken everything I've thrown at it, including an 1850's house and a school renovation. It can be bulky for quick jobs, but still fairly portable. Highly recommend the bag inserts for it, keeps the filter clean and you can just toss the bag with out all the dust of dumping the bucket. I do like the size of that little 4 gal one though.

I added a humidifier to our downstairs furnace but the screen scaled up in one winter, so I haven't run it this year. We've got pretty hard water in the town and need to take a serious look at a whole house softener system. I replaced 6 hot water elements shortly after we moved in that were solid bars of calcium or whatever, and one of the tanks blew another element over Christmas which failed in a way that water was leaking out of the connector. (glad we were home this year and caught it)

I don't think a radon test was required at purchase but we did a mail in test anyway. I think this house was borderline but haven't checked it since that inspection, should probably run another one and see if it's changed.
Might as well do that again.

On a side note, we're shopping for someone to clean the duct work, the kids have been getting sick for a while and the general thought from the doc is allergies. I keep the filters on the furnaces changed but they said it might be worth having someone check/clean the ducts.

Thread is quickly derailing but what's new

I have been wondering about this. We constantly get ads/coupons for duct work cleaning in the mail. My parents never had it done, I don't know anyone that has either. Is this a normal thing people do? Based on the pictures on the fliers that come it looks like there is serious dust build up. I do change the filters on the HVAC every 3 months with allergen filters as well.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - davej - 01-13-2017

The one dude that came out yesterday to take a look said he'll see a ton of crap left over from the construction of the house. Ours was built about 10 years ago and I'm sure it hasn't been cleaned before. Add a dog and some kids, and I'm sure we're bringing Sticking my head in a couple of the intakes, you can see a lot of dust on the walls of the ducts. Have some other companies coming to quote next week, but it's looking to be in the $900-1300 range, there are two heat pumps though, so I'm sure it's a lot of linear feet of duct work.

Update on my gear s2. I filed a warranty claim and sent it off. They didn't have any good options for saying what was wrong in their system. You type out your issue but they seem to ignore that and only look at what was selected from the drop down menus. The closest thing I could find to my issue without going into the physical damage box (which would have been refused for warranty) was to say the screen was damaged. Got an email the other day saying it was fixed and on its way back to me. Not counting shipping, think turn around was like 3 days or something. They wrote the problem down a a bubble under the LCD display and the solution they wrote was that they replaced the screen. Well the screen was perfectly fine so I guess we'll see if the click wheel is any better. Maybe they fixed it when they put it back on or it is all the same part and they replaced it with the screen. Or maybe they only have drop down boxes to tell you the problem also.

Anyone pick up a wireless charger for their Samsungs? It's seriously the best thing ever. I snagged two for my wife and I as stocking stuffers for Christmas. I use my cell as my work line and am connected all day to a bluetooth earpiece, so the already meh battery life of the S7 gets pretty dismal during the day. I've got the angled fast charge wireless pad and it is perfect to be able to charge my phone while I'm at my desk using it, see incoming calls, etc. The fast charge works great wirelessly even through my Incipio case, albeit maybe a LITTLE bit slower than when I plug it in.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Sully - 01-18-2017

I had the original grey one with the s5 and the Samsung changing back and just lay my phone on it while I sleep so don't need fast charge.

Got the regular black one for my dad when he got his s6 (because the charge port broke on his s5)

And had the one you got in my saved Amazon cart and picked it up around black Friday (it went on sale for a good deal). I leave that one in the kitchen for when I get home from work.

I think they're all great. The gray one is a bit more sensitive to placement but the black ones work great. The angled actually has two coils so you can put the phone either way. I really like it especially cause it saves the connector from getting worn and loose in the phone. And quick charge is awesome. Just recently picked up two Samsung brand quick charge car chargers because all the other ones I had actually let the phone to continue to discharge while charging and other wouldn't fit with my case on.
