WRXtranceformed Wrote:So I keep getting letters in the mail about my Shield. Apparently my serial range had issues with the drop safety not re-engaging when the trigger resets after being fired. I have tested it several times in the past when I got these letters and mine seems to be fine, tested it again this weekend it is still works but it makes me kind of nervous. Should I be worried? I could send it back to S&W but I've shipped a gun back to the mfgr for warranty before and the process being a pain is an understatement. The other option is to trade it in on something else (this would be the second warranty issue I've had with this gun iirc) that doesn't potentially discharge when it gets dropped.

Is this the Shield40? I haven't gotten any communications.

Yep the Shield40. You may not have gotten a letter if yours was a newer build, I checked the doc again and it was actually all caliber Shields manufactured before August 19, 2013. What's scary to me is they accidentally sent me another letter that was intended for S&W dealers and retailers with big bold underlined letters saying to not sell these pistols until they have been inspected and repaired as necessary. I appreciate them staying out ahead of this obviously but it still makes me nervous that whatever build issue they are addressing could show up.

Here is the issue (from that letter):
"Smith & Wesson has identified a condition where the trigger bar pin could damage the lower trigger in certain M&P Shields in a way that may affect the functionality of the drop safety feature of the firearm, potentially allowing the pistol to discharge if it is dropped."

that combo looks freakin' metal.

i've been hearing about Gander Mt. stores going out of business/filing bankruptcy....anybody seen any good deals in their area? i was hoping to grab a decent gun safe but the firearm discounts at our local store are a joke (probably because our area is ex-military/redneck central and everyone buys all the time). i'm starting to think this is all just a clever ruse a'la the "Going Out of Business Store" in Don't Mess With The Zohan

Never a bad time to post.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Ryan T - 04-20-2017

Picked up a scope and a few other things. Vortex Viper HS LR 6-24x50 FFP (first focal plane) with MOA reticle and adjustments. Mounted on Vortex Tactical 30mm High rings. The scope clears the front guard with a little over 1/8" clearance with the sunshade on. Without the sunshade you can fit the pull over cover on, but only with minimal clearance. I'm hopeful that I can put a flip up cover on the front with the sunshade on, but we shall see. Also added a Vortex bubble level for extra help long range. Also added a Harris 9"-13" bipod. Unless I come across a super sweet rail mounted range finder that isn't stupid expensive, this is all I plan to do to this rifle. I've got a case of ammo on order and hope to get some shooting in very soon. My boss has several hundred acres we are going to try it on. While I plan to do some 1000' plus shooting in the future, we are going to try it out on some groundhogs at 312' from his porch first.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 04-21-2017

Love the setup dude! Look at the scope on that thang!

I'm headed to the gun shop this weekend. The repeated letters from S&W have left me less than confident with my first gen Shield so if I see any good deals and they give me a good trade in value I may trade the CC piece for something like a XDS, a smaller Glock if I find one I like (I don't usually) or maybe some kind of thinner 1911 to finally scratch that itch

Man guns don't come much thinner than a 1911.

Side note.

hit the range at lunch today, HOLY BALLS. Both eyes open + MRDS is the only way to fly, wow. Set up some steel at about 35 feet or so, double hits were easy even with the steel bouncing around everywhere. Having the target in focus and being able to forget about sight alignment...   hooray technology!

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - JustinG - 04-21-2017

I am assuming the MRDS doesn't limit your holster options? Cause it sits so far back on the slide and that is typically exposed anyway?

JustinG Wrote:I am assuming the MRDS doesn't limit your holster options? Cause it sits so far back on the slide and that is typically exposed anyway?

I think there's some holsters the RX isn't going to work with. Any of the retention holsters that include a "cap" on the back of the slide aren't gonna work, for example. But I can still get some positive retention holsters as yes, most holsters have a cutout at least to the ejection port/barrel hood. So I think I can get a Safariland GLS for it, which will be fine for a retention holster, and then a concealment holster I'll just have a custom one made. I got a guy.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 04-22-2017

Traded in the ole Shield for a new CC piece:

Handled a bunch of Glocks, still don't feel comfortable in my hands, tried the P320 and it was nice but a little heavier and the grips they had fitted were a little bulky for my taste for CC. Also handled a Springfield and Sig 1911 a love them but again, for CC I would prefer something smaller / lighter and when I do pull the trigger on one someday I want it to be a big heavy beast.

I'm comfortable with the maintenance, reliability and accuracy of the XD series, like the looks of this one in FDE and a bunch of mfgrs are doing deals right now to try to convince people to buy guns instead of golf clubs. Springfield threw in a mail in rebate for 4 free mags (2 extended, 2 regular) a magazine pouch and a paddle holster. No brainer

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Ryan T - 04-22-2017

Am I the only one here who likes Glocks?

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Apoc - 04-23-2017

Probably.

I mean, you're a cop. You're contractually obligated to give Gaston a handy whenever possible.

But the reality is that Glock hasn't innovated in years, and is lagging far behind the curve for ergonomics, modularity, optical tech, and yeah, aesthetics. They're ugly as fuck, the sights are garbage, the trigger is trash and the grip feels like holding an overlarge pez dispenser. They work, which is fine, but there's a lot about a Glock that's Less Than Ideal, especially out of the box.

Not that this problem is unique to Glocks, but even against the other austrian striker fired pistol, I'll take the Steyr 10 times out of 10, just because it's about a zillion times more comfortable. And looks better too:

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Goodspeed - 04-24-2017

:dunno:

I love my 19.

Sidenote: I shot a friend's stock 19 save for a trigger polish job and it was honestly the best trigger I've ever felt in a pistol, CZ's, Sig's, various 1911's, FN's etc (my own Overwatch trigger included).

And Rex, srsly? I never quite got the "Glocks are ugly" arguments - pretty much all polymer and most all-metal pistols aren't exactly sculptures of exquisite beauty - but you're gonna tell me that this:

[Image: 691480_L1.jpg?interpolation=lanczos-none...0px:1200px]

Is uglier than that Steyr? C'mon bruh.....

If you want pretty:

...but only good for bbq's.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 04-24-2017

I would second that Glocks are super ugly and look like a first grader designed them with Lego blocks. That wasn't the deciding factor for me not buying one but it definitely didn't help their cause

That's an option for the low, low price of $14,995 (Robar finish not included)

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Apoc - 04-24-2017

Glocks look like the designer was about 80% done when someone asked him to 3:30 happy hour and he just said "fuck it, I'm too hungover to finish this thing" the next day.
