it's funny how negative and pro-cop the article is, like "how dare this citizen try to call this cop out!". The guy is kinda dumb, but he's got some balls, good for him! They only mention near the end that the cop WAS in the wrong.

Nono, you misunderstand.

I thought I was missing something. It's funny for hitting people with dipsticks. It's just that everytime I see that commercial, I feel like I'm missing something.

Did you happen to watch the entire video? The "citizen" and the cop are both idiots. I love how the concerned citizen acts like a badass inside his car and turns into a whiny little bitch when he gets out, and the cop reciprocates!

Put yourself in the officer's place for a minute, and imagine some jackass is racing up behind you blowing the horn and tailgating you. Now clearly, you have to stop and find out just what this guy's situation is. I'd just love to hear what you'd do next.

I'm not saying the cop is innocent, (again, they are both idiots!) but the cop deserves a reprimand and the citizen deserves a reckless driving ticket at a minimum.

ftfy.

Why should the officer get a "reprimand"? Who's watching the watchers? In that video I saw reckless driving, failing to stop at a stop sign, and trespassing on part of the officer.

If *I* did what the officer did, I'd be in jail waiting to explain to a judge what my big ass hurry was.

Furthermore, as soon as the cop realized he was being followed and someone was attempting to flag him down, he should have *immediately* stopped. What if the citizen had an emergency? That is exactly how I would flag down an officer on Patrol if I needed someone to Protect and Serve me...why did the cop speed off for like 8 minutes before finally coming to a stop?

Finally, without civil disobedience our country would be in alot worse place than it is. (In fact, it wouldn't exist at all.) While the citizen's attitude was poor and out of place, and he should have acted in a much more professional manner, I can't fault his actual actions.

I also think that he would have caught up with the officer sooner if he weren't dragging around a pair of huge brass balls.

Quote: In that video I saw reckless driving, failing to stop at a stop sign, on part of both parties.

In turn, I fixed that for you.

Police officers on duty don't get charged with traffic offenses, because enforcing the law takes a backseat to whether or not an officer is speeding. All officers have an all too brief driver training class in their respective academies, which is all they legally need to chase you down for doing 68 in a 55. In nearly all departments police officers can exercise their discretion regarding their speed, but if they make the wrong decision the consequences are fairly severe.
Reprimands for an officer are far more severe than a simple traffic ticket, and the collection of just a couple can and will lead to termination. Plus, if the officer's decision to speed contributed to an accident, then they are also likely to face a civil suit.

FWIW, this isn't civil disobedience, this is reckless and criminal behavior on the part of the citizen. If this guy would have taken video of an officer speeding past and then called in to the officer's OIC or Internal Affairs office, I'd give the guy all the kudos in the world. Instead, he behaves like an idiot, so I'd expect him to be treated like one. Remember, two wrongs don't make a right.

Is the officer wrong for speeding? It depends. Is he wrong for blowing the stop sign? Of course! Does that mean that any jackass with a camcorder in hand should be free to speed through traffic videotaping this perceived "injustice"? Absolutely not!

Granted, I'm sure no one will ticket the citizen, but it sets a bad precedent for officer safety if you allow people who aren't happy with a cop to chase them down.

Yeah, I don't really have a problem with him reporting the officer, I certainly disagree with his method.

I am in complete agreement on the total eclipse of the heart video, army of arthur fonzerelli clones ftw!
