So exactly like owning a VW then?

Re: What is your car buying future? - Apoc - 07-20-2016

^ this, except Audi

Re: What is your car buying future? - Jake - 07-20-2016

The thing (I think) with Land Rover is that they have used so many drivetrain combinations in recent years, while the design of their vehicles is very evolutionary. So they may have changed from the BMW V8/auto to the 5.0/ZF in 2009 or whatever, but nobody noticed the body updates until 2013, so they just assume that your experience will mirror theirs, even though you have a different drivetrain, different electronics, and yours isn't a Hurricane Katrina special bought from Honest Bob's Used Cars.

Well that, and the reliability studies still don't help their case:

But I was told Jags were unreliable and mine was an awesome monster! I imagine you got it CPO or with some kind of warranty, if so just ride that thing till it expires and see how it treats you

Mine is only the eighth worst?!

Movin' on up!!

Yeah, everyone just ignore the badge on the nose of my truck and keep making fun of DJ and Joey. Please.

Wow haha I totally missed Ford being down that far! What the heck

Damn. What is defined as problems? Like minor shit like rattles or breaking down on the road?

To be fair, Ford hasn't had a great track record with their new technologies. The FoST wasn't the pinnacle of reliability when new, they still can't get a PowerShift DCT to behave well, MyFord Touch was littered with little glitchy moments until recently, early EcoBoosts had intercooler issues, etc etc.

When they keep it simple, it seems to work alright.

Re: What is your car buying future? - SlimKlim - 07-20-2016

Also surprising to see Porsche is #2 and Chevy well above average too. Aren't Porsches made of glass and don't Chevys attempt to kill people somewhat frequently?

yeesh, the drip pan I put on your facebook post was just a joke.

Re: What is your car buying future? - WRXtranceformed - 07-20-2016

To be fair to the automakers, a lot of the noise that is occurring in surveys about reliability are coming from infotainment units. So if your company built out a horrible UX and your car's touch screen is slow to respond or glitchy, a lot of people are reporting those as problems and bringing them back in for "service". It's just the nature of our world now, electronic experiences are hugely important to people. So who knows how many of those problems are actually mechanical / electrical in nature and not just Sally HR Lunchlady having a hard time figuring out how to pair her phone to the bluetooth in her new Grand Cherokee.

Re: What is your car buying future? - rherold9 - 07-20-2016

Well then I'm not surprised mazda is so low if the infotainment is included. I've heard of freezing with it due to heat.

2015 for reference. Not a good year for Land Rover or Fiat. Mini made a decent jump up from 2015 to 16.

I was going to say Chevy and GMC also made a nice jump in the rankings but if you look at the distribution it's more that the other automakers above them got worse  Chevy's ratings actually got slightly worse and GMC's got slightly better.

Re: What is your car buying future? - Senor_Taylor - 07-21-2016

LOL at BMW being above average. I'd like to see those stats paired with the "severity" of the issues.

If you guys beleive any of that shit in those rankings...come on...

Those rankings are based on input from morons who got TPMS mandated because they drove around on tires with 15psi. :dunno:

From my research, it seemed most of the bitching with LR was actually about the dealers who are horrendous. $15 sway bar bushinsg that cost $600 at the dealer every 15k miles. Infotainment systems that are horrible (the navi in the LR4 isnt the most intuitive). A modern Land Rover will nickel and dime you to death if you drop it off at the dealer, not surprised at all. I do expect more issues than let's say a Toyota, but based on all my wife's friends, my friends that aren't car people, and the public; I spend less maintaining "maintenance intensive" vehicles than they do their "drop dead reliable" cars.

You'll probably be fine. I was similarly warned about Jags but the total cost of ownership was about what I expected for a luxury car, and I had it dealer serviced because I was very comfortable with the service dept / techs at our local dealer.
