Not bad for the price, but battery life is also probably only 3 hours during normal use, tops (reviews advertise "up to 4 hours.)

I have tried using a mac laptop, I cant do it.

Re: What are kids usin' these days for class laptops? - ViPER1313 - 08-26-2011

If you are willing to wait a month or 2, Intel's "ultrabook" models will start dropping which are exactly what you are looking for, although they will all probably be in the $700 to $900 range. Check out the Asus UX21 for an example.

Re: What are kids usin' these days for class laptops? - .RJ - 08-26-2011

Samsung already has something similar out (Series 9), and all of those are $1200 and up so I think its going to be more expensive than that. I also really think I'd want a hard drive - but then again do I really need more than 128 gb? It would certainly be faster.... that would hold more storage for movies and pics than I'd use on a multi week vacation.

Question: can SSD's be swapped out like hard drives as capacity gets cheaper? Or are they integrated into the motherboard? I'm sure I could buy a 32gb SD card for backup extra storage if I needed it for... whatever.

If I really wanted to pare down and get light/fast/internet only use then I'd buy the chrome book, but I want a little more flexibility than that.

Re: What are kids usin' these days for class laptops? - Mike - 08-26-2011

ssd is same as any other hd.

Re: What are kids usin' these days for class laptops? - .RJ - 08-26-2011

Always? The netbook I have now, I cant upgrade the memory - its integrated onto a chip with the processor. I know nothing about SSD's in laptops.

Re: What are kids usin' these days for class laptops? - Evan - 08-26-2011

memory != disk storage

yes, you can upgrade to ssd

why are you so focused on portability when you use it 99% at home?
just use the netbook while travelling and get something nicer and easier to use to masturbate at home

Evan Wrote:memory != disk storage

Yes, I know. But I didnt expect something I couldnt upgrade at all when I bought the Dell either.

Evan Wrote:just use the netbook while travelling

Because it makes me want to stab myself in the face. I hate it. I dont like a bulky laptop for home use either. I looked at some reviews of the Samsung series 9, there are some pretty good deals to be had but the reviews are pretty shitty - hardware problems, poor support.

WTB: laptop that is awesome at everything and will fly on a mini unicorn to wherever I might need it.

any ideas?

Re: What are kids usin' these days for class laptops? - .RJ - 08-26-2011

I dont want to do any heavy lifting with it (games, CS3, etc). Stop being a grouch.

Re: What are kids usin' these days for class laptops? - Mike - 08-26-2011

and it has to be cheap.

Re: What are kids usin' these days for class laptops? - .RJ - 08-26-2011

I'm realizing I need to expand the budget for this one so I dont end up with something else I hate.

Re: What are kids usin' these days for class laptops? - Apoc - 08-26-2011

For $700, you can get a pretty awesome Lenovo.

That's probably the manufaturer I would recommend these days.
