However, I submit that if my investment does not pay off in my favor, it will go to Virginia Public Schools who therefore train and educate the next generation of economists, politicians, CEO's, and stock brokers. And let me tell you, if Economists, Politicians, Stock Brokers and CEO's aren't related to the Stock Market, I don't know what is! - Mike - 04-29-2009 CaptainHenreh Wrote:Mike Wrote:CaptainHenreh Wrote:Mike Wrote:No, no it doesn't. Wasn't meant to be. You replied while I was writing it. Dear World, Please know that Rex is not so e-stupid as to have entirely missed what I had posted. I was making an edit while he asked for clarification. Sincerely, Michael There, you should be OK now. - CaptainHenreh - 04-29-2009 Whatever. You win this time, Mr. Collins, but I'll be back, yes and with greater numbers! ![]() Also, ![]() Lighten up, Francis! - Mike - 04-30-2009 Mike Wrote:http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=SRZ craaaaap. up another 27% today. happened to another stock a few weeks ago. i'm so not good at calling highs, but pretty good with lows. - mrbaggio - 04-30-2009 This is an honest question. I'm not trying to make fun. What sort of research are you doing on these companies? What stats and numbers are you looking at? From my chair, only seeing the results you post here, it looks like you are trying to time the market, but I'm sure that's not what is really happening. Educate me. - Mike - 04-30-2009 p/e ratios look at the board and their history with other companies outstanding debt dividends 52wk moving averages fool.com caps ratings trading volume latest news "do they have a good product?" my most recent purchase was sysco (syy). why? they're very near a 52wk low, they pay a dividend, and everybody uses them... they're not going anywhere. - Maengelito - 05-18-2009 so, we're cool now and everything's on the up and up and will never go back down from here on out, right? - Mike - 05-18-2009 no chance. - HAULN-SS - 05-18-2009 Should've bought a lot at 6500. - Andy - 05-18-2009 You guys should read Michael Lewis' Panic and Liar's Poker. He was wall street guy before he became the most awesome non-fiction writer. The stock market really isn't rational and information dissemination is not in the normal joe schmoe's favor. - Dave - 05-18-2009 +1 on Liar's Poker; phenomenal book. - BLINGMW - 05-20-2009 Mike Wrote:no chance.aww come on! SOME chance? made ~60% on ZAAP in 2 days, had to sell  (total random fing dumb luck btw, I just happened to buy it because I didn't get the stock I really wanted monday morning, then obama announced all these CAFE changes) - ViPER1313 - 05-20-2009 Andy Wrote:You guys should read Michael Lewis' Panic and Liar's Poker. I'm pretty much taking a "wag the dog" view of the stock market at this point when looking at short term investments. All I see is people react to the overall "feeling" of the market and the daily news cycle. When there are 100 news stories each day about "glimmers of hope" and "not missing the upswing" the market goes up. Reverse goes for "not at the bottom yet" and "recovery bubble." Longer term, I think any investment for a company that won't go belly up is still a steal at this point. Re: Stock Market Thread - BLINGMW - 10-14-2009 dow = 10000, recession over!     :vomit: Re: Stock Market Thread - D_Eclipse9916 - 10-14-2009 Oh god I almost flipped out on you until I saw the throwup at the end. Meh. Ive made a killing so im not bothered, just need to get out of the high-growth stocks now as they are going to end up plunging in half a year. So the debate is how soon do I want to stretch it till it starts dropping.. Re: Stock Market Thread - Mike - 10-14-2009 i've also made a killing, but could have made SO MUCH MORE. i have a few plays that have doubled, but dropped three that quadrupled and one that octupled. Re: Stock Market Thread - BLINGMW - 10-27-2009 I'm out. For at least the rest of the year. Looking at this shite every day is driving me nuts, the market is getting really volatile, no-one knows what to do and neither do I. *edit* You know, if someone cares to do a little peering into the financials and educate me.... please tell me why OLN was down today. That's the one that was the last straw for me. If you had bought it at ~16 yesterday, tell me you wouldn't also be shocked that it is now lower than that. I mean heck, it was ~18 in Nov, when the dow was lower than it is now, and that was before another great quarterly report from a company that can't keep up with demand. :dunno: Things like that concern me. Re: Stock Market Thread - Mike - 10-27-2009 i'm likely out in the next few days... i feel we're going back to where we were very soon. Re: Stock Market Thread - flintster55 - 10-27-2009 I just looked through at OLN after you posting that and I'm baffled myself. Seems like things were positive in the morning but the price definitely didn't hold. Maybe there was something within the 8k that was negative and outweighed the fact that they beat estimates? If i'm bored at work tomorrow I might glance through it some. Re: Stock Market Thread - Mike - 10-28-2009 i'm now way out. not completely out, but the dip that i'm feeling won't hurt. |
