IMO, you should still ride with them first session sunday morning to make sure they didnt forget everything they learned the day before... or stay out @ vixxens too late Wink

- Evan - 05-21-2007

case by case basis and certainly not grounds for "thats pretty shitty"
This student could have been signed off after the first session. 2 hours on the track and he was more than capable of handling it solo 14 hours later.

Evan Wrote:case by case basis and certainly not grounds for "thats pretty shitty"

Well its always case by case... I'm all about signing students off and leaving early but not showing up because your car is busted is shitty... what if the student wanted you back in the car?

- Evan - 05-21-2007

If its always case by case then leave your assumptions and generalizations out of it. You werent even there.

This was discussed with the student prior. I asked him if he wanted me along on sunday and he said he didnt need it, and said he would be fine with me staying home. But thanks for trying to micromanage my student

- .RJ - 05-21-2007

How is having an opinion micromanaging your instructing? I wasnt running the event, so I dont care if you took a dump on your students car and said "its definately sucking" and left first thing saturday morning.

I just think it shitty. Take it for what you will, I dont organize trackdays. Hell, I dont even instruct anymore.

Next time Ill take the Ryan-"do as I say not as I do"-Jenkins policy and sign him off early just because I dont feel like riding with him anymore.

edit: and I remember several instances of you signing off a student on saturday and not even speaking to him/her the rest of the weekend.

- Apoc - 05-21-2007

He's really just upset because he rode all the way out there Sunday and didn't get to see you.

 This isnt some fucking mikey rules thing. Just an opinion - why are you so butt hurt about it?

- Evan - 05-21-2007

who is butthurt?
You are talking out of your ass and Im calling you out on it. You think Im going to let you spout a bunch of shit without correcting you?

- .RJ - 05-21-2007

Evan Wrote:You think Im going to let you spout a bunch of shit without correcting you?

Whats to correct? My opinion is that its shitty not to show up to instructing because your car is busted, regardless of the student situation.

Do you need to look up "opinion" in the dictionary?

You think I'm full of shit, well, thats fine, I dont really care. Thats why its an opinion, and I wasnt running the trackday, and I stated that a few posts back - if I really cared I would've asked further about the student situation, but I dont.

- bimmerboodle - 05-21-2007

please you two kiss and make up

And I have every right to correct the justifications for your uninformed opinion about the situation, especially when your uninformed opinion happens to be a personal slight.
You can hold whatever head-up-your ass opinion you want, I give not a shit, but you arent going to go around justifying that opinion with uninformed assumptions for for others to read, like
.RJ Wrote:... what if the student wanted you back in the car?

And as Ive already made clear, I didnt not show up because my car was busted, I didnt show up because I didnt have any commitments for the day. Absolutely nothing changed between being there or not. I could have driven out there, and sat on my ass all day and then driven home. Would that have earned me the RJ Black-Kettle Seal of ApprovalÔäó I wonder?

yeah, jeff curtis was none too pleased about that
student signed off. I had no commitment to be there. Jeff Curtis [edit: and RJ] can lick my taint.

i'm just relaying what i heard jeff say. he also always asks intructors to ride with students first session on sunday morning even if you signed him off. not my opinion, not what you and your student had discussed, just what jeff always says, thats all.

- .RJ - 05-21-2007

Well, now that we're officially off topic....

Uniformed? Sure, I wasnt there. Never said I was... I wasnt instructing or running the event so I dont know why you're so hung up on that. If your car wasnt busted you'd have been back (oooh... speculation... better call me out!).

Regardless of whether your student was ready to solo for the weekend or not, *I* like to ride with them sunday morning after sending them off solo on saturday. Personal preference... but it seems to help them get back into it and I can usually leave them to drive alone for the rest of the day - also *I* find that still working with the student off the track, even though they are still driving solo on track seems to help as well. Debrief what happened in their session, and give them some goal(s) or tasks for the next session.

At least you managed to take my (obviously uninformed  ) opinion and spin it so that it looks like it was some sort of personal attack on you. Good job.

Im the one with the spin-job? Lets recap.

I comment how I didnt come on sunday.
RJ responds with the criticism that not coming on sunday "is shitty" without any knowledge of the situation
I inform RJ of the situation and how it was a completely acceptable instructional decision.
RJ makes more assumptions.
I correct RJs assumptions and tell him to stop speaking about a situation he knows nothing about.
RJ starts backpedaling and claiming that above criticism was just an innocent opinion. As if it were not directed at the situation at all.

So you criticize me by tellingl me how what I did was shitty, I correct and inform you otherwise, but somehow Im the one spinning it. Planet RJ? RJ Rules?
have fun.

That may be SOP for the nasa instructors, but it wasnt a nasa event and he didnt say anything about that in the instructor meeting on saturday. If he wants to tell me how to instruct, he actually has to ...uh.... tell me. I would have been happy to have shown up on sunday, but I didnt need to so I didnt.

- Feersty - 05-21-2007

Do you get credit for two days of work if your student is good enough to fly solo on Sunday, and you are not "needed?"

Feersty Wrote:Do you get credit for two days of work if your student is good enough to fly solo on Sunday, and you are not "needed?"

there is no such thing as "credit." your weekend is free when you register...
