RE: Project: Space Wagon - Apoc - 08-10-2018 I had a lot of dumb luck with the 911... but I'll say this... having a second car makes you give A LOT less about the DD. I get the M Sport thing, but we are rocking a base GTI with zero options and an F31 with only convenience options. I'd totally spend that Dinan money on a 2+2 of whatever tickles your dickle and is in your budget. In other words, you need another 135. RE: Project: Space Wagon - .RJ - 08-10-2018 One car to rule them all isnt a forever solution, unless we move. But the F31 is going to be the primary driver. I dont have a commute so when I do drive I tend to enjoy it and getting some real oontz when I get on the gas pedal is a small glimmer of happiness in my sad 911-less life in nova so dont take that away from me. I wish I could afford a 1M to go with it. RE: Project: Space Wagon - Apoc - 08-10-2018 City life has clearly destroyed me, because when I put both cars in sport mode I'm like ZOMGWTFBBQ. Then again, peak HP in my life was the B5... 15 years ago. RE: Project: Space Wagon - .RJ - 08-10-2018 Its not your fault - Seattle city roads blow. It sucks the fun out of driving anything. Even the highway is awful with the loud AF chip seal surface. It's because people drive around with studded tires six months a year. The top layer of asphalt is long gone and they don't bother repaving. Now that I fully WFH; it really makes me debate having even a DD. I haven't driven my truck in 2 weeks (but I need it for towing), and my E92 I have driven 3x about 5 miles each way in the past 2 weeks. If only I could convince the wife into a pickup of some kind, but it's a constant "no"; so I dont think I am making much progress. A lot of expense goes into having multiple cars, and RJ has even less space (he doesnt even have a garage). I can see why for right now one car is the right choice. Just get a Raptor RJ and give it a tune. All the convenience and allz the funzzzz. PS - Please don't take me too literally.... RE: Project: Space Wagon - Apoc - 08-10-2018 So what I'm hearing is f all this noise - he should be looking to move into a place with a garage. Naturally, that'll have to be outside NOVA.
RE: Project: Space Wagon - .RJ - 08-10-2018 I work 2 miles from home and my wife either metros to DC or works at home - I drop her at the metro or she rides her scooter. If she changes jobs the 1 car thing is much harder, although I can ride my bike to work and taking an uber when the weather is poor is a lot cheaper than owning a car. One thing that is tough is that I usually go home at lunchtime and walk the dogs and if I have to pay for a dog walker the 3 days a week they'll be alone for 10 hours then we start getting into car payment money. Not having a 2nd car means I'm putting an extra $800/mo into my index funds this year. And, I dont need a garage. I just want a place to tinker with my old motorcycles and my bicycles. But, JayRay dropped some wisdom on me the other day and said I cant own a convertible (i.e. Boxster) without a garage. Smart man (with a leaky Z3) RE: Project: Space Wagon - Apoc - 08-10-2018 $800? WTF? RE: Project: Space Wagon - .RJ - 08-10-2018 wtf what? RE: Project: Space Wagon - Apoc - 08-10-2018 How does not having a second card save you that much a month? RE: Project: Space Wagon - .RJ - 08-10-2018 TCO on the 135 was around $600/mo, all in. Slightly skewed by the fact that I only owned it a year. Registration, sales tax, title, property tax, depreciation, payment, insurance, fuel, repairs, service. Its not fun when you add it all up. I didnt even modify that one. RE: Project: Space Wagon - Apoc - 08-10-2018 You can't put depreciation saved in your index fund, fuel is sunk because if it's not the second car it's the first car, and repairs and service are zero if you get a CPO. Your math doesn't make sense to me, but I agree it's not worth $800 month to have a second car... unless it comes with a clutch pedal.
RE: Project: Space Wagon - .RJ - 08-10-2018 You can play a shell game with the numbers if you want, but that's what it cost to own the car. Most any newer car is not far off. But, no ragrets, it was a fun ride and I'm glad I bought (and sold) that one. I'm just not clear on the $200 difference. Why not give the F31 six months before Dinan? Given your last two cars will be gone within a year and you said yourself your commute is two miles. Maybe I'm just slow at everything... 'cause it did take me like five years do anything after replacing the steering wheel on the 911.
RE: Project: Space Wagon - .RJ - 08-10-2018 Going to 1-car was the bulk of that but I was able to toss in more so why not. It was a little arbitrary but getting rid of that cost prompted me to be more regular with those deposits - $200 didnt feel significant enough (I know every dollar counts). RE: Project: Space Wagon - .RJ - 08-10-2018 DINK life (finally) RE: Project: Space Wagon - ScottyB - 08-10-2018 well this escalated quickly. i leave this thread for a week and.... sorry the E91 didn't work out. the aftermarket situation is weird and frustrating and it sucks that the chassis is a letdown on the fun to drive factor. not to sound like an asshole but its made me take a breath of relief that i didn't take the same path when i was in the market last year. get a ridgeline back in your stable and then buy a TTRS. then you can haul wife + dogs + pedal/brap bikes with ease or fire up the angry 3-pedal car that sounds like a quattro WRC and tell everyone you rule. RE: Project: Space Wagon - .RJ - 08-10-2018 I thought about another Ridgeline. It was the most useful thing I've ever bought, but I hated driving it every day. |
