It might fit, but the way it mounts the unit I wouldn't be very comfortable with that solution. But honestly a poly "cube" works great, a styro cooler isn't going to really get you anything that a polycarbonate food storage container won't, and it'll be more rugged, have graduated marks for water level management, and it's like 6 dollars.

That or I've used a regular cooler before when I had to do lime 14 steaks at once. This was before I bought my big polycarbonate tub. I also use a regular really tall pot when I making just one thing for myself.

Got mine on amazon. Cambro is the brand most people use I think. At least it's the one I used and there were several reviews that dealt specifically with immersion circulators.

The pot I use is a 16 or 18 quart t-fal I picked up at Walmart for boiling down turkey/chicken carcasses to make soup and it holds the anova precision cooker just fine cause its so tall.

I deep fried a turkey breast to go with our roasted 21 pound bird yesterday:

Used some spur-of-the-moment jalapeno and butter injectable marinade that was holy balls so good. When I pulled the breast out of the oil after about, eh, 35 minutes or so, I began to carve it by cutting down the sternum and all this buttery peppery turkey-y juice just spilled out like a soft cooked egg. It was glorious. I cannot recommend this highly enough. From a prep-and-cooking perspective it was about a zillion times easier than roasting a turkey in the oven, and it was juicy and flavorful.

Deep fried turkey is the way to go my man. Looks delicious! We do a deep fried turkey from Bojangles every year and they are so ridiculously good.

We used to always deep fry a turkey for thanksgiving. We usually go to someone else's thanksgiving now so we've been missing out. But this year, we went to a friend's but we also got two turkeys. Work gave me one and food lion had a sale where you spend $35 and get a turkey for $0.37 a lb. And we spend 3x that every week anyway so we got like a 16lb turkey for like $6 something or whatever. Think we will deep fry one and I'm buying a smoker as soon as I figure out if the wood chip drawers on the $270 one at Sam's club will annoy the shit out of me or not and then I'll cut the other up and smoke it. I'll boil the carcasses down (seperately) and make some turkey soup afterwards too!

nothing worth showing off, but as a meat review...

if you can find them and even better in the off-chance they go on sale, Fresh Market "fresh young turkey" is out of control. not brined, slaughtered just prior to the holiday. super moist and the flavor is the best i've seen so far. for a traditional oven cooked bird that we did nothing special to (no injecting, basting, butter under the skin, etc) it was awesome.

last year they went on sale the day after T-day for like 1.99/lb but this year it was a no-go on the discount.

Personally I think buying a propane smoker is a waste of money. Youre probably not going to like it very much and going to want to upgrade pretty quickly.
Pellet grills can be had for $400, if thats still out of your range, then offset smokers are really cheap and building an ugly drum smoker is even cheaper. Those will challenge you and teach you LOTS about smoking too.

I have an electric that I was just about to throw on craigslist for cheap. Its no better/worse than propane (other than not having to buy propane) but its cheap and will hold you over until you get something wood fired.

They have a really cheap pellet at Sam's Club but it looks so tiny on the inside, I'm worried I'd run into space issues if i wanted to do larger gathering style meals.

Wonder if I could get it for now and if I run into space issues, maybe somehow retro the feed box onto an offset smoker but I guess I would still need a heat source.

Do pellet grills use heat elements, heat from the pellets or charcoal to cook the food?

So in theory, I would be able to take the feeder box(and maybe some other components) and retro it into a offset smoker down the road? Or even a cheap propane smoker cabinet?

If I was unhappy with the space limitations. It looks like a great deal if it's still going on. It's like $400 on sale for $250

pellet hopper, auger, firepot, fan, control unit and temp probe. there is also a firepot cover and a grease tray since drippings will put out the flame.
its actually relatively complex for just making fire, and it all works together.

its possible to retrofit it to another grill, but it would require at least some cutting and welding. lots of people have done it so its certainly possible.

but $250 for a pellet grill as long as its moderately functional is a terrific deal. do you know the model name? for that cheap it may not have been completely temperature controlled (you just set pellet feed rates) which you want.

Looks like it's all controlled. Only 440 sq in of cooking space which looks small but would probably suite me fine to start out. I'm going to swing by tomorrow after work and see if they still have them on sale. I don't think they do. Was probably a black Friday weekend deal.
