Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Steve85 - 04-02-2014 NIce! I really wanted to go for one of these, but couldn't get one in warranty at my price and don't like the interior from the previous gen. Those wheels look good, very similar to the Niche Lucerne that I'm eyeing. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - davej - 04-02-2014 Mike Wrote:Will be going for this. H&R OE springs (about .25" lower than the pictured car, which is on the s-line suspension) and some RS4 replicas.
Re: Help Mikey get to one car - SlimKlim - 04-02-2014 Woot! Nice buy! I love all the gadgets around the gear selector. Mike Wrote:WRXtranceformed Wrote:I said the same about the GTI, but since the warranty quietly expired, it has run perfectly. We'll see when the day comes. A year and a half is very short ownership for me, but we'll just have to see. I've had mine out of warranty for a little over a year and ~10k miles. It has cost me a total of $350 outside of standard maintenance. Ain't no Honda but it doesn't seem too bad. I'm considering having my shop do the timing chain tensioner and cooling system refresh, (and in another 10k miles, shocks and a DSG service) and just running the nuts off it for at least another year or two. :dunno: Re: Help Mikey get to one car - *insertusernamehere* - 04-02-2014 Yeeessss, i like. Just out of curiousity, since i remember you being hella picky throughout this process...what does the audi not satisfy? I dont remember your requirements... There is an immediate jump in pricing when dealer-servicing a luxury marquee vs. its soccer-mom equivalent. Presumably unreliable and needs a chip  We are buying it because it fits our wants and needs best. On the Audi and Bimmer it is nearly impossible to find a higher mileage car (== price we're more comfortable with) that is certified because the timing just doesn't make sense for someone to unload one. This guy is seriously upside down on his loan, but clearly not an issue as he and his wife are going to two cars and one is an S5 hock:

I don't really look at cost to repair as much as I look at number of repairs. There's nothing too special mechanically about this car. Since it is loaded with features, there's a lot more failure points, but nothing astronomically pricey other than the motor, which is in ~75% of VAG cars sold in the states over the past half a decade... Can't be too expensive. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Mike - 04-02-2014 Jake Wrote:The A4 Avant is a Passat wagon in drag. YOU SHUT YOUR STUPID MOUTH. It's all about the interior. So sessy in comparison. Except I'd totally rock an AWD Passat wagon if they existed. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - D_Eclipse9916 - 04-02-2014 Mike Wrote:Can't be too expensive. Saving this... I'd be surprised if they were "luxury car tax" costly. And well, 1.5 years of warranty to find out. If you're servicing your out-of-warranty VW or Audi at the dealership you need to have your head examined. I wouldn't let a man who says a 4-pot DI turbo motor only needs an oil change every 10k get anywhere near my car with a wrench. At a good indy shop you'd pay the same labor rate regardless of the type of car and you'd get infinitely better service. 2.) Yes, the VW has a more simple suspension design and there are less gizmos to break (in my particular case I'm trading quattro for a dual clutch, which seems like kind of a wash), but my TSI is almost exactly the same as the Audi TFSI, just has a slightly different cylinder head and it's mounted sideways. Overall it's cheaper to own, but you can run into the same issues with the same parts costs in both brands. My $350 in repairs last year were both engine issues and both can happen to Mikey's TFSI. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Jake - 04-02-2014 Mike Wrote:Jake Wrote:The A4 Avant is a Passat wagon in drag. The comment was moreso directed at Lee, who laughably thinks that an Audi and a VW are dissimilar enough that Joey's ownership experience is irrelevant. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - WRXtranceformed - 04-02-2014 I forgot, I am surrounded by deutsche-bags on this board. Seriously though Mike, good luck with it I sure it will be fine. Having had $6k of work soaked up 100% under warranty early this year kind of brought the reality of owning a "luxury" brand to the front and center. I doubt I will ever own a "nice" car out of a warranty period. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Mike - 04-02-2014 Jake Wrote:Mike Wrote:Jake Wrote:The A4 Avant is a Passat wagon in drag. I know, I know. Just poking you. I'd much rather have quattro maintenance (read: none) over DSG (they haven't been the best) so I'd almost prefer the A4 over Joey's GTI. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - SlimKlim - 04-02-2014 My DSG is covered to 100k because it was recalled at 14k miles, which was one of the selling points for this particular car. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Mike - 04-02-2014 I ONLY BUY THE FINEST BRAND NEW CARS. MAINTENANCE AND DIRT ARE FOR THE PLEBS. Oh, and murder that shit out.
