It's been relayed that countless residents are aware of VA4WDA efforts to clean up trails and they are extremely grateful. It's also bought the 4WD community a lot of good will with the Ranger station/community in that area. We were hoping he (THE RANGER aka BAWSSMAN) would be present to see the efforts, but he had other commitments. In the end, it's the little things that go a long way in ensuring these trails stay open to the public for everyone's use not just the 4WD community. Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 04-23-2015 Kaan Wrote:need more details on the control arms... we might do all of them  I'm 200% buying their Upper Control Arms now. The ride is unbelievable, not to mention top notch quality. I'm usually not one of those advocates of "best of both worlds" (per my stance on 9mm vs .40S&W vs .45ACP) but MetalCloak knocked it out of the park with the hybrid clevite (oem rubber) and Johnny Joint (rebuild-able & mad flex) bushing. I do indeed get the best of both worlds. The onroad driving characteristics are *gasp hock: probably tighter than the WRX steering. The offroad handling is probably the best I'm going to get on a short arm lift. After the alignment to set the proper caster and tire balance the front of the XJ hasn't felt this solid and responsive since it probably came off the factory line. I can drive down the high way with one finger on the wheel with barely any slop in steering. It just soaks up the bumps. Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 04-23-2015 In near future the XJ is going to need some maintenance. I'm looking to purchase and install and few things to refresh the front end. Mainly I will be going with MetalCloaks Duroflex Upper Control Arms to match my existing lowers. The front axle in every way is getting tired and so it's time for new ball joints and hubs. I'll be getting some quality Spicer ball joints and Timken hubs. To round it all out and I'll be ditching the crap and inherently weak steering by going to a one-ton steering setup. Serious offroad makes a great kit that requires no reaming of the knuckles. Simply drill out and install the tapered inserts and we're running one-ton steering baby. A SYE will be installed to rid my vibes and will include new fluids in the TCase and transmission. I'm tempted to throw a Aussie lunch box locker up front but I'm still happy running open/open for the time being. Basically these are my prep plans for this years Camp Heep 11 in August. Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - Senor_Taylor - 04-23-2015 Wow, I didn't know you were still open/open and without a SYE. HOW ARE YOU ALIVE?!?!?1 Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 04-24-2015 SYE wasn't needed at my previous lift height. It's only bad vibes at 35 and 55. And by picking good lines you don't always need a locker. Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - Senor_Taylor - 04-24-2015 Lines are for wusses! It's all about throttle throttle and the biggest tires you can fit. Duh. Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 05-12-2015 Picked up some 32's and Yakima Rain Gutter rack locally on the cheap. ![]() Probably sell my 5 old 31's and break even. Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 06-18-2015 Not much to report on in the XJ world. My living room is starting to look like the auto parts store counter with the annual Jeep Rausch Creek trip approaching in August. Waiting to be installed/delivered: - Adjustable Upper Control Arms to correct front pinion angle - Armored Rear differential cover - Slip Yoke Eliminator (SYE) to get ride of driveline vibrations - Front DS from an XJ to be used as my new rear DS with SYE - Brown Dog Industries Motor Mounts (I took a peek recently and my driver side is basically non-existent) These new mounts are bombproof. - Transmission mount. Suggested to change this same time as motor mounts. - Grand Cherokee Tie Rod (Solid rolled steel construction as opposed to the stock flimsy XJ Tie Rod) - Valve Cover Gasket As the XJ approaches the 168k mark I'll be also be having a side order of Oil Change, Coolant Flush, New Transfer Case Fluid and new Trans Fluid. 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 07-01-2015 Got my SYE installed this past weekend as well as my new diff cover and fluid.Removed my transfer case drop and was able to gain back about an inch in belly clearance. Wasn't able to install my drive shaft since I broke a bolt off in the rear yoke. I have a new one on the way. Good thing I could drive home in 4hi. Sunday I replaced my motor mounts and trans mount. Yikes. Check your mounts kids. ![]() ![]() Things remaining to install: - Rear yoke - Rear DS - new upper adjustable control arms - grand cherokee tie-rod - alignment - coolant flush - oil change. Got about a month and a half before it's time to head to PA for the annual trip. Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - Jake - 07-01-2015 Jesus. I guess I should check the mounts on the M3, especially given I have replacements and I've been too lazy to do 'em. Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 07-01-2015 Jake Wrote:Jesus. I will happily come help you do them knowing that the small time investment of installing will likely save you the cost/headache of a radiator, hoses, fan and god knows what else if one of your motor mounts lets loose on the track. hock:

Another XJ Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 09-24-2015 Not much to report on in the XJ world. Another great performance @ Rausch Creek in August this year running blues/blacks. ![]() We're about 800 miles short of hitting 170k. Pretty consistent with ~10k a year driving. I've been told numerous times I have an oil leak somewhere, but for the life of me I have never seen a drop of oil hit the pavement or ever seen the oil get low. :dunno: The usual suspects are Valve Cover, Rear Main Seal, or the O-rings in the oil filter adapter. I chose to start with the cheapest option and threw on a Felpro gasket. I'd say she looks pretty clean under there for 170K.. A lot of folks would say this 4.0 is just getting broken in. ![]()
Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - CaptainHenreh - 09-24-2015 You know dude. You've kept this car a long time, and have really seemed to take care of it. Bravo. Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - Jake - 09-24-2015 It's been three years since the black one got totaled?! Damn. +1 to what Rex said. Caring for it while using it as the gods and Jeep intended. |
