Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 12-19-2016 Apoc Wrote:In that config and price range, it's pretty much a throwaway machine. I'm not sure you'd get anything by waiting. I am also trying to determine if a Chromebook is even worth it, so saying they are garbage is also acceptable. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 12-19-2016 A chromebook is basically a phone with a keyboard and bigger screen. I perceive them to be purely Internet and minor document creation machines. I'd rather own a $500 Lenovo if it was my primary computer. Disclaimer: I use a $2,000 Alienware machine and edit photos/videos. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - WRXtranceformed - 12-19-2016 We have like a maybe $140 Asus Chromebook I bought Rachael from Best Buy that has been running videos/internet searches fine for almost 2 years now. You could probably cut your budget in half and find something that meets most of your requirements Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 12-19-2016 Appears the Touch and the flipback screen put me inthe higher pricepoint Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - .RJ - 12-19-2016 JustinG Wrote:So our laptop is dead, my larger phone (6P) has replaced my tablet, and I am now guaranteed at least 2nd place winnings in my Fantasy League.....I want to get a Chromebook. buy a used macbook air instead. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 12-19-2016 No Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Ken - 12-19-2016 Something like this maybe? Not too far out of price range http://computers.woot.com/offers/hp-spectre-x2-12-128gb-detachable-touch-laptop-7?ref=cp_cnt_wp_11_12 Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 12-19-2016 OK, one more requirement...A real hinge, not all surfaces are flat. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - BLINGMW - 12-19-2016 JustinG Wrote:NoI'll 2nd that. There's great chromebooks out there in the $200-300 range, as long as you are ok with ChromeOS (and it's great for a lot, and easy to use and update), you get a lot of laptop for the $. I don't have a particular one to recommend, just pick one from a brand name manufacturer and go with it. I'm about to switch my parents to all ChromeOS stuff. JustinG Wrote:OK, one more requirement...A real hinge, not all surfaces are flat. It's really very amazing that people accept the kickstand approach. What "lap" is that "laptop" going to work on? Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Ken - 12-19-2016 BLINGMW Wrote:JustinG Wrote:NoI'll 2nd that. Currently typing on my surface with a kickstand, on my lap... not a problem :dunno: Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 12-19-2016 Ken Wrote:Currently typing on my surface with a kickstand, on my lap... not a problem :dunno: Get outta here you fucking millennial It has never worked for me with smaller sized tablets with kickstand/padfolio style cases. Maybe a 11in+ screen helps here? Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JPolen01 - 12-19-2016 I HATE using my surface on anything but a flat surface. The kick stand just can't sit right when it's on your lap. I'm always craining my neck when using it on my lap. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - BLINGMW - 12-19-2016 Acer R11 convertible looks like a good deal. The N3160 chip is more serious than you'll find in most Chromebooks and I think it meets all your requirements. ~$270. *edit* Here's an interesting one, the CTL NL61T for $279 has the same specs but is made for school/kid use. Sold! Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 12-19-2016 I was gonna recommend a surface, but I forgot they only have the Pro and Book now. What about a yoga? <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-yoga-710-11-2-in-1-11-6-touch-screen-laptop-intel-pentium-4gb-memory-128gb-solid-state-drive-silver/5206500.p?skuId=5206500">http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-yoga ... Even though the R13 is supposed to be better, the processor on it doesn't seem that great? Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - BLINGMW - 12-19-2016 JustinG Wrote:Even though the R13 is supposed to be better, the processor on it doesn't seem that great? Not to mention it's out of your price range Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 12-19-2016 The 4gb with 32gb storage is $350 at Best buy Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - BLINGMW - 12-19-2016 Oh! Well then sweet! I don't know anything about that processor :dunno: Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 12-21-2016 Snagged the R13, should be here after Christmas. Only concerned about it being too big to use in tablet mode, but I guess we will see. It just appears to be built for the upcoming future of Chromebooks vs the R11 and Asus Flip. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - WRXtranceformed - 12-26-2016 We got an Echo Dot for Christmas. It's creepy and cool at the same time. Seems like more of a novelty though, but I bet someday new homes will have some kind of "Jarvis" system integrated into the low voltage and power systems. We're not far away from that |
