yeah. would be nice if we could get a wiki component installed (like on slickdeals.net forums) where the first post after the original post is editable by everyone,
so we could have an easily updated list of everyones gamertags /PSN ids
Someone needs to add that feature to our copy of phpBB, where are our Computer Science students???

Quote:(Btw, whats your psn id)
Man I haven't even turned my PS3 on yet, I hope I can play some GT6 tonight but I've got some family stuff to do so it might not be until tomorrow for a little bit. Then I've got to get back to freelance development :?

Picked up GT6 over the weekend. Didn't get to play much because I had family stuff and programming to do, but I got to spend maybe an hour or two on it.

I'm playing with a controller for now because I need a wireless dongle for my wheel to play with the PS3.

So far the physics feel pretty good but I haven't been blown away compared to even Forza 4. The thing that is really jarring coming back from Forza is the lack of damage. You can still slam into other cars with almost no consequences which seems ridiculous in this day and age. Especially since Forza has had car damage for well over 5 years now.

GT5 was a rough, shoddy piece of work. Seems like they fixed most of the major problems with GT6. The loading times are not terrible, the UI is decent, and all of the car models look up to snuff. One thing that blew me away was the changes in time of day (dusk, night time). The game looks phenomenal in low light. I'm also really enjoying the kart racing. Haven't even gotten to racing in the wet.

Unfortunately the sound is still ASS and they still have those stupid license tests in there. Gran Turismo is still very much the product of a stubborn guy with a sometimes unreasonable vision. There's a part of the game where you get to drive a moon buggy on the moon's surface yet there are features on the game's boxart that didn't ship with the game and are coming with an update. Go figure.

All in all I'm happier with GT6 than I would've been with FM5. Having to spend $500 to get an XB1, then another $500 to get a new steering wheel setup, then getting a game with half the content, lots of missing features, and 66% more expensive DLC was just a bridge too far.

A couple of games I am very excited about...

Tom Clancy : The Division. If you havent seen the E3 game play trailer, you must watch....
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://youtu.be/uiaRSuyQ7zA">http://youtu.be/uiaRSuyQ7zA</a><!-- m -->

And a review by IGN of what we know about Destiny so far, this was from prior to E3.
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://youtu.be/ufeImJJEqqU">http://youtu.be/ufeImJJEqqU</a><!-- m -->

Not sure how I missed both of these videos.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - G.Irish - 12-12-2013

Yeah Destiny sounds like it's going to be super ambitious and if they deliver it is going to be a gaming milestone. Kind of a bummer that it won't be released until September 2014 but at least you know they won't be rushing it.

If you want to geek out a little bit, check out this interview with Bungie's founder:

Played BF4 for the first time last night. I am exceptionally terrible at piloting the helicopters. I am good at flipping them and smashing into the ground though, so there's that.

Just in general, I don't seem to know what I'm doing very well with this game. Never played the previous ones.

You and everyone else. Spend some time on the test range if you really want to get good with the whirleybirds.

I might try to hook up my xbox controller for use with vehicles. Not sure if it will let you switch between them for that, but mouse and keyboard doesn't seem like the best way to fly.

Edit: Also, kind of interested to see what shows up over this big megalodon / dinosaur easter egg hunt going on in the battlefield forums. Hopefully it doesn't end up to be disappointing.

Played BF and COD multiplayer last night. I def still get into COD more....might take BF back while it's still worth something. Still though I think I am getting burnt out on that type of shooter. Looking forward to Destiny and some of the RPGs when they come out.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - JustinG - 12-12-2013

So I have like 2 more days to get the extended warranty on my PS4 its $50 for regualr 3 yr protection or $60 for same +accidental for 3yrs.

Thoughts? I went through 2 - 360s and the RROD @ $100 per, both RROD were with the first build version of the 360. Having the first version of the PS4 makes me wonder if spending the $50 to have 3 yrs of protection is worth it?

I know it comes with a 1yr warranty, and I think, since purchasing through with my CC it tacks on another year to give me 2 years of protection for free aside from accidental damages.

Edit, CC only covers 120 days from date of purchase.

Square trade may be the better deal $54, if I can get my hands on a 30% off coupon. 3 yrs of protection for approx $38

$60 for accidental, does that mean if I get drunk and spill my beer in it, or my baby pulls it out of the cabinet its totally covered? If that's the case, basically no questions asked, seems like it would be worth $20 a year to me....heck just pour some booze in at 30months and get a new one?

Seems to be the case. $56 on Amazon for 3yr "accidental" coverage upto $399.99. Which covers drops/spills/hardware failure.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - WRXtranceformed - 12-14-2013

So I am running my DTV genie mini box out of the Xbox now and directly into the TV, it seemed to GREATLY improve the picture quality of the TV. I don't know if it's because that particular mini is new and running it through the Xbox prevented it from updating or not. But my DVR function wasn't working properly and the picture was worse. Instantly better now. I also am not super crazy about running the Xbox any time I am watching TV, based on my past experience with Xbox longevity.

Can you get these coverages even if you didn't buy from Amazon? I'll likely be traveling with mine a couple times a year. Would be very worth the peace of mind.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - JustinG - 12-14-2013

Yeah. Square trade accidental was juat cheapest on amazon. I went with the sony accidental for $60, just figured I'd stick with the manufacturer instead of a third party.

You have to do it within 30days of purchase.

Sold on Amazon is only for products bought on Amazon. You can buy direct if you're within 30 days of purchase. $100+ seems like a lot, especially to someone who doesn't believe in phone insurance.

Looks like $70. I consider my phone to be better built to travel, I replace it every two years, and it isn't notorious for shitting the bed multiple times over ownership.
