Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 02-07-2017

Speaking of Stuper-SUV's, Dodge Durango SRT just got announced:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.motortrend.com/cars/dodge/durango/2018/2018-dodge-durango-srt-first-look-review/">http://www.motortrend.com/cars/dodge/du ... ok-review/</a><!-- m -->

Only Stuper-SUV with third row seats and can two over 8000 lbs. Not bad at all. Next up, Grand Cherokee Hellcat.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 02-07-2017

That's actually pretty good looking for a Dodge. Really aggressive front end but it works for me. Has anyone actually heard a Durango R/T recently? I was next to one at a stoplight with the windows down and when that thing took off it didn't sound half bad. I'm sure with the Hemi it will be even better.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 02-27-2017

Welp, looks like there might not be a Camaro Z28, they're just gonna go with a ZL1 1LE and call it a day:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/future-cars/news/a32747/chevrolet-camaro-zl1-1le-daytona/">http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/fu ... e-daytona/</a><!-- m -->

If this thing is 3 seconds a lap faster on GM's test track this is going to be a legit supercar killer. Makes me wonder if it'll be able to catch a Corvette Grand Sport, given that it has 200 more horsepower with only a 3-400 pound weight penalty.

The aero is a bit outrageous for daily use but damn if this isn't a performance bargain. Hard to argue for any other performance cars in this price range when GM is offering 650 horsepower in a car that can fly around the track.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 03-01-2017

So uh the 720S looks fucking amazing. Gonna officially break cover at Geneva next week.

McLaren is on a roll. its really refreshing to see supercar design that's so flowy and organic among a sea of really angular and slab-sided stuff

^thank you for saying what I was thinking but not able to articulate

Mid $30s, 300hp turbocharaged economy based car? Welcome to 15 years ago and its still missing AWD. :lol:

Re: Automotive News Discussion - ScottyB - 03-07-2017

wow they aren't screwing around.

my first thought though was...i wonder how much headroom is built into that engine. we all know how things work with turbo performance engines, a simple tune might unlock another 100hp

Holy wow missed that price point. Yeah i'm taking a Golf R for a more grown-up version or Focus RS if i'm totally into the boy-racer look.

I don't disagree with you and what you said is exactly what a lot of people have said. But in my opinion they are trying to stick to the roots of the Type R and front wheel drive. The hard part is the price point puts them into the STi, Golf R territory.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Goodspeed - 03-07-2017

Well this is pretty neat.

RUF's wholly in-house built, carbon body/monocoque CTR Yellowbird reincarnation, just unveiled at Geneva

700 hp/649 lb-ft, 2640 lbs, 225mph.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - rherold9 - 03-07-2017

I'd like to see an RS/STI actually have comparison times on tracks to the Type R or it's slightly a pointless discussion for performance figures. Looks or car preference are subjective.

at normal 3-400hp power levels i'd put money on the 2WD stock car of similar power/weight always beating the AWD variant on a dry track. hell even a lower HP 2WD car will give them a run. any of the past Car and Driver lightning laps will give you an impression on this.

the question is whether the HP figures through the front wheels destroy the balance or if honda has managed to "diff" its way out of understeer-town.

Well, the previous gen CTR was already faster around a racetrack than the Golf R and Focus RS so I imagine this one will be as well. AWD is great in low traction conditions and for launching but it carries a significant weight penalty. The CTR is going to be about 450+ lbs lighter than the Focus RS and STI. And in the case of the Focus RS, it ends up being FWD anyway after the diff gets too hot during a track session.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - rherold9 - 03-07-2017

Yeah I assume it will be faster but how much or how little? It's also only ~$10k more than a GTI but with 90 more hp and 40 more tq. It also has run a 7:50 on the Nurburg. So it's definitely not slow. I don't think they will ruin the balance I'm sure there is some magic going on to make it feel very good just like the RS uses the e-diff magic to drift or oversteer. I'm going to assume this will be the pinnacle of hot hatch's for performance for a few years before the other makers fight back.

Also, I realized I haven't paid attention to the Civic in years. What.....what is it now? Appears to be a lowered crossover (being honest)

Re: Automotive News Discussion - rherold9 - 03-07-2017

For some reason I can't get over that it looks like a more aggressive Toyota Venza in the rear. Other than that the rest of the styling isn't amazing but just bearable. I do like the side profile look to the car.

991.2 GT3 configurator is up:

Can't say I'm a fan of the top scoops but other than that, perfection :bow: Nice that they retained the 9000 rpm redline while punching it out to 4.0L. Also 20% more downforce without any increase in drag.
